First DLC Pack Brings Co-Op To Red Dead Redemption

It isn't even out yet, and Rockstar is already delivering details for downloadable content. That's what we like to call, "proactive."

Today, Rockstar has announced "Outlaws to the End," a Co-Op Multiplayer Mission Pack for Red Dead Redemption. The game is scheduled to launch in a couple weeks and this pack, which is free and adds the oft-requested co-op gameplay, will follow in June. This is only one of three DLC packs headed our way and it boasts six all-new multiplayer missions, loaded with "outlaws, epic gunfights, and revolution for 2-4 players." There will also be new Trophies and Achievements to snag, too. Said Rockstar Founder Sam Houser:

"Multiplayer in Red Dead Redemption offers players a whole new way to encounter the massive open world we’ve created, but we felt the experience would not be complete without co-op game play. With these missions, we wanted to create new ways for players to share in the experience of engaging with this amazing landscape."

Rockstar provided brief details for three of the six co-op missions. The first is "Walton's Gold," where Walton's Gang have taken control of a mining camp. Obviously, there's a lot of gold in there so blast your way in, load up a mining cart with as much gold as it can carry, and get out ASAP (Walton's boys have explosives, ya know). Then there's "The River," where you will actually ride a raft downriver, firing at rebel encampments and eventually arriving at the stronghold of Nosalida for a final epic battle. Lastly, we have "Ammunition;" the Mexican Army has attacked the town of Tesoro Azul, and it's your job to clear 'em out using a Gatling gun, heavy cannon, and sniper fire. Good enough?

Multiplayer is fun; multiplayer co-op can be super fun. And we can't wait for RDR.

Awesome, awesome and awesome. Was a little worried at first that they were releasing co-op separately and you had to pay extra for it.
This tho sounds quite nice, especially free.

Was a little worried they would be gouging us with tons of dlc right at launch, but thankfully this is free, keep it up rockstar.

I wonder if you would have called it 'proactive' if they were charging for it...
Hmmm?? Lol. It's always nice to hear this kind of news. It's just frustrating when devs announce paid dlc before the game comes out tho. The coop missions sound pretty sweet too!

Of course. Announcing DLC two weeks before the game comes out has nothing to do with price.

It's usually kind of annoying when they announce priced dlc before the game comes out. Because in that case I always find myself thinking, "well shouldn't this have been in the game to begin with, since it's being announced and the game isn't out yet?"
That's the only reason why I said that. But sure... If you insist.

When is this game scheduled to be released? If it conflicts with LP2's release date, RDR is going to have to wait.

Yeah same here. Day 1 RDR. Played LP1 for a couple of hours. Couldn't bring myself to play again. Just all that walking in the snow for 2 minutes then enemies then walk again trend just wasn't for me.

Please be split screen, co-op is nowhere near as fun if you have to talk over a mike or play with a stranger.

Same here but maybe it's gonna be like UC2, ND said if they were to put split-screen then the visual will suffer.

Sad no developer has yet to overcome this obstacle.......

I can tell how the visuals suffer when I play motorstorm splitscreen. It just has a little more pop in and textures load slower. Especially if the person you're playing with is on the opposite side of the track.

Me and my buddy have been playing a lot of Bad Company 2 on a LAN with two TV's. If you don't mind hiking your PS3 over to a buddies house, thats also an option.

Disagreed, coop is best when your buddy/ies has their own ps3. You get to enjoy the game in it's full screen glory along with a friend. Plus, your friend doesn't have to physically be around you. My coop buddy lives quite a few hours drive from my place.

I would love to play Co-op online. Don't get me wrong. It's just that my friends are too "Poor" to own a PS3 or get XboxLive...I need new friends...I'm the only one I know who has a PS3 and who has been a Playstation fan. Everyone else likes PC gaming that I know. That is why Split-Screen is the only way I can play with friends. Playing with strangers is really hard for me, they usually yell at me because my internet can't handle the game(I have the best internet I can get where I live too).

The thing is, if I want split screen give it to me. Who cares if the visuals suffer a little to have that option, it would only happen when you use it.

I emphatize with you, Nlayer. It's also somewhat the same for me although I do have 2 other friends with PS3's, one doesn't always have his connected online and when he does, he's always camping whatever the game is, and the other always online but on his different time (due to work shifting) so we also rarely get to play.

So is this in addition to co-op modes already included with the game?

Either way, it's nice to see Rockstar handling the DLC better then they did with GTA IV. Can't wait for this game. Won't belong now.

Yea, my buddy was pretty irked when he found out that the PS3 wasn't going to get the GTA IV DLC. Hes rejoicing today since it finally did came but I'm happy to see this is not the case with Red Dead.

With the PS3 install base the way it is now, we will probably see less Xbox exclusive DLC and less 3rd party exclusive games. And maybe, just maybe well see some more 3rd party PS3 exclusives. A return to the glory days perhaps?

Please be split screen co-op, the lack of such features in games this generation is a disgrace. I should not have to buy two copies of a game just to play co-op with friends.

R* sure knows how to dish out the DLC... they were probably hoping to include this with the game itself but, due to time restaints they probably just decided to add it later for free since it was suppose to be with the original game...

but, making moves like this just furthers my belief that rockstar games is the best gaming company in the biz... they know their fans and they know what they want out of their games... and they continue to prove that they know how to deal with DLC...

i'll continue to be a loyal fan until they cease to exist... the only thing that has disappointing me was giving M$ GTAIV add-ons first... but, now that the PS3 has it, it's all water under the bridge now :D...

The GTA engine in use in TBOGT is no longer sub HD and has been improved. PS3 GTA4 was the more solid version of the two, with better performance was given due to the ability of being able to use a Hard Drive.

I definitely enjoy online co oo more just cause I have a nice sized tv and most of buddies live a nice distance. I hate splitting my screen in half or fours and when I do have over buddies we usually get down in fighting games. I was on the fence about this game for a lilttle but with all great stuff I've been hearing it has definitely moved to the tip 3 on my game list for the year. I'm thinking medal of honor is gonna be great this year too CoD has wore thin on me and still haven't picked up Battle field yet but it's on my list for sure. Still need FFXIII also and will try to grab at Walmart while it on sale thanks for the heads up Ben!!

co-op as in i can invite a friend over and have some fun?
or co-op as in online only?
some of us do actually invite our friends over from time to time you know?
what the hell is going on with normal co-op?
almost every ps1 game had co-op, at least 60% of ps2 games had co-op now im lucky if 1 game out of a 1000 on the ps3 has co-op!

one question.
what the fu*k is the point of the ps3 being able to have up to 7 controllers connected at once if 99.99999999999999999999999999% of the games dont support 2 let alone 7!?
honestly!

almost every xbox 360 exclusive has co-op so why is it that very few ps3 games have it?
only people with a 360 actually invite their friends over for some fun and games?

Yep, if more power means less fun with real people then I say, bring back the 8bit (ok, maybe skip and jump to 16). Their was a time that almost all games let 2 or more people play, Anyone remember Gauntlet back in the day? you a 3 of your friends sat around some small fuzzy 14" TV and lots of FUN!!!

2 things sony REALLY! need to do.
1 assign a studio to remaking ps1 and ps2 classics.
2 make sure more developers put co-op into their games.
