ModNation Racers Team Developing "Original IP"

If you're a fan of the "Play, Create, Share" philosophy pioneered by LittleBigPlanet, you're likely on board with ModNation Racers, set to release for the PS3 and PSP on May 25 in the US.

And if you enjoy it, you might end up looking forward to the developer's next interesting project. We already know that United Front Games is working on bringing the True Crime series back into the limelight but in addition, and according to GamerZines, the team is also toiling away on an "upcoming next gen, original IP title." This is from a recent job listing on the developer's website; the position is a "mission scripter" and furthermore, the candidate must have "a special interest in open world games." That shouldn't be too surprising, though, as after delivering a project that's all about player customization and freedom, the team would still want to include a certain amount of freedom in their new game. The only question is, what is it? Or if we're not allowed to have a title, into what genre does it fall? It'll be very interesting to see future games from United Front, simply because they're relatively unknown to many and ModNation Racers has already proven to be a hit with most critics.

We'll let you know if the team decides to spill the beans before E3, but maybe E3 is our best bet. That's where they first officially unveiled ModNation last year, remember?

I hope they fix the loading time on ModNation Racer. I'm so psyched about getting that game, but watching a preview of someone spending over 3 minutes loading the game was just painful.

I've read that while the loading is slow it's hardley a reason to miss this game. It largely becomes irrelevent. So they say...not to worried about.

I saw that video also. The load times are bad, but they also counted the title screens within the 3 minutes. Doesn't seem entirely fair to me.

This is very true. Not often do you see a single console with such a wide variety of games such as ModNation and LBP all the way to Killzone 2 and God of War.

I am psyched for modnation and the fun I had during the beta makes me excited to hear about ufg making a new ip. I would hope for a rpg, but I don't think I'm that lucky.

Well, Mod nation racers is looking very much like a D1P for me on the PS3. I may get the PSP version as well, but only after the PS3 version is mine and I have a chance to thoroughly try it out.

Should have added that I'm interested in their next game, and LBP2 sounds very intriguing too. The whole "Play, Create, Share" looks like it's here to stay. I think people like being able to create their own games, and as more tools bring this capability to more people, the buy in will be even stronger.

Sony is doing a great job driving the industry in several ways with this. I do think that the more 'casual' gamer will be interested in this kind of thing, and that could be a nice 'synergy' with Move, since the Move controller seems more targeted at the casual gamer too.

I think this is the best way to capture both casual and hardcore gamers

Even I don't have a problem with Play, create, share. It's just fun for everyone.

United Front is serious business!
Open world sounds intriguing. The rpg idea comes into mind.

Whatever it may be sounds good. Hoping it's ps3 exclusive and that it exploits the console's cell processor to its maximum.

E3 will be packed with hidden exclusives

sounds like a talented and ambitious studio, sony would do well to snatch them up into the playstation family. media molecule would have a fun time designing a game with them :)

I find it funny how studios have to be careful about their job postings as gamers everywhere with an insatiable appetite for all things gaming scour their sites looking for anything that might clue them in on the next big release.

you sure thats not for true crime?
certainly sounds like it!
anyway, i cant wait for true crime i loved the original game on ps2 it was so much fun!
the trailer they released today is really impressive!
im going to be broke by the end of the year, and i thought last year was chock full of games!!!!!
worst thing yet im going to loose a month of playing time since im going overseas :(

As long as it's PS3 exclusive it'll be on my radar.
I'm also thrilled to see some MNR reviews, I hope it turns out nicely, I had lots 'o fun with the beta.
