3D Dot Game Heroes Off To Strong Start In North America

You know, Square-Enix might want to take a page from Atlus' admittedly smaller and more modest book: the hardcore long-time gamers do exist and they do like to play games the way they used to be.

Gamasutra's weekly Sailing the World piece, which covers the five top-selling games for each major gaming platform, has noted that 3D Dot Game Heroes was #1 in North America for its first week of availability. Using information taken from the various Amazon branches around the world, they have determined that Atlus' retro throwback has been the top seller of the past few days, even managing to top past blockbusters like God of War III and the more recently released Super Street Fighter IV. Of course, 3D Dot Game Heroes was the only one on the list to launch this week so it makes perfect sense to assume it'd be more popular, but even so...we're talking about a little 2D-turned-3D old-fashioned Zelda adventure. If nobody wanted to relive the past, it wouldn't sell at all, now would it? By the way, the reason you don't see it on the Japanese charts is because the game was out there last November. After doing up the review, I personally think there's something wrong with you if you don't like it.

'ahem' Does anyone else find it the slightest bit humorous that the #1 game for the Xbox 360 in the past week was still Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2...? Okay, maybe it's just me.

Judging by the pre-order numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if 3D sells close to Modnations numbers. Which is amazing considering it's a small niche title vs a heavily advertised one. Sounds like the game deserves the success. I can't wait to get it.

And no. I'm not surprised 360 owners only buy/play COD. It's a shame though, because Alan Wake looks decent.

I wouldn't go that far...there are demographic differences, I think. The kind of people who are into games like 3DDGH are more inclined to preorder.

But here in Canada ModNation Racer isn't advertised at all... It isn't even on our upcoming releases poster for the end of the month lolll XD.
(those posters are done by futureshop execs and we don't have a saying on them)

But the 45$ price tag on this small game was also appealing. I bought a copy aswell and MADE A PIKADOT scholar LOL. Now I just have to find out how to share it.

Anyway for our territory, Modnation didn't receive more advertisement than 3D dot game. And everyone is supprised when I tell em they will be able to get a mariokart-ish kind of game on their ps3 at the end of the month. Sony better do a better job with letting people know about their products T-T

i picked up my copy on Tuesday, and the chick at EB Games was telling me it is sold out at a lot of stores. i was lucky, as i was there someone canceled their preorder so i got it

There is tons to do in the game. If you fly through it without exploring, doing mini games collecting hidden items it'll probably take you 10-15 hours. But to completely finish the game and get platinum trophy, probably around 30-50 hours.

I haven't beaten it myself, yet (still have a ways to go...), but I think I've heard 15-20 hours for the main quest. But there's a lot of optiona side content, too.

Haha. That is pretty damn humorous. It's funny to see how north America is pretty much the only part of the world that supports MW2. Alan wake is nowhere to be found on the NA list.

That shows the maturity of the xbox gamers right there.

I'm sorry but Alen Wake looks blagh, guy looks lik he's wearing the couch my mother abd father bought in the 70's.

The game isn't even in HD. it's sub HD like FFXIII and Splinter Cell C.

Almost all 360 games render at sub-HD levels. The *only* HD console in town is the PS3.

Actually, I was looking at some charts and it seems like Mediocre Warfare 2 is pretty big in EU. Regardless, I plan to contribute to the strong sales numbers when I buy 3D Dot Hero's.

I'm busy at the moment but all I can think about is getting back to DotHeroes and moving onto the next dungeon. Yes, SE needs to take a page from this book and cater to us old fans of old mechanics. I think I dreamt in 3D pixels last night :)

Build your own Link and it feels just like a Zelda game. You can also download a Link from Gamespy but their Link kinda sucks. I was able to create a better one.

Yea just copy the root folder titled PS3 onto a thumb drive or your PSP(if you have one) stick it in your PS3 then go into the Save Utility folder on your PS3, go into the external storage device and you should see 3 files. Then just copy each one. If you need to find the file just google Play as Link in 3D Dot Game Heros. The Gamespy/IGN link should pop up.

I made my own Link by taking some old 8 bit shots of Link, front and profile, then made a grid over him in MS Paint then I followed that. I did the profile first then expanded outward for the front view.

I believe it is all of Europe, regardless it was surprising. Being an American I expect most of the mindless gamers here just to be hypnotized by generic MW2 action. It seems like most of, excluding 2 well known MW Fanboys, that the gamers on PSXE do appreciate variety and realize crap when they see it.

This game must be selling well; I can't seem to get my hands on a copy at all. Every Best Buy in the area is out even though some of them say that have it in stock on the website, all the Gamestop's in a 25 mile radius are out, Target is out of stock, I even went as far as to check K-Mart and it is gone from there as well if they ever even had it in stock. There are no Wal-Marts close by so yeah I am left waiting for stores to restock next week. Gives my wallet a rest though.

Humorous yes, but puzzling also. I'd have thought that MW2 would have burned out by now in terms of unit sales. I mean, really, how many 360 owners had not already jumped into MW2? Are there no other games around for 360? Are 360 game sales that poor that an older (yet popular) title can still claim the #1 spot? How many copies sold?

Either that or they are buying multiple copies. Some people have a sickness in terms of having to buy SOMETHING. Sadly for them, Xbox is the one with "no games", so to itch that desire to buy a game, alas they buy the same one over and over.

And before you tell me that can't be true, I bought a new copy of Haze in the clearance bin for $11.00. The sickness evidently can touch us all. I may never open that game because thanks to Sony and the PS3, there are too many games coming out than I can keep up with. But something made me, forced me to pick it up, and give the teller my credit card. I am telling you there are forces out there stronger than you can imagine.

Well MW2 is a great game which is why the 360 version is still selling really well . However, looking at the top 5 PS3 games, I must say I'm very happy to have the system that not only plays MW2, but EVERY great game of this generation. Anyone blowing $300 on an Xbox these days are investing in the next Betamax.

Just picked it up today. I laughed when one of the guards asked me to go to Area 7 to find Superb Joe. A nice little reference to Bionic Commando.

Other than Sam & Max, and the Monkey Island games, this is the most I've laughed in a game. So far the hardest laugh has come from up in the volcano area. There's a nice little Goonies reference lol.

Nice to see it selling well also. This is as close to Zelda as you can get without playing Zelda. Unless you make your own with the RPG Maker program on PC. Though I'm curious if it's more of the older gamers that's picking it up due to the nostagia involved. Especially since a lot of the newer gamers are more interested in graphics and shooters it seems.

AU, AGAIN! getting the middle finger.

anyway, hopefully this will show to developers that there are people out there that prefer playing games the way they use to be.
hopefully this will encourage developers to release more old styled games, like 2D platformers.

I have to get this eventually, I love Zelda and this seems like a great homage. Also I recommend Super Street Fighter 4, it's a steal at $40.00.

I'm skeptic of picking this up. Mainly because, even though I did play a few of the games they seem to be referencing, I'm worried I wont enjoy it as much because of the references I wont get.
