Analyst: Red Dead Redemption Could Hit 4 Million Sold

Considering the super high review scores, it will come as no surprise if Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption is a huge hit.

However, before the high scores and hype started to pile up, we're willing to bet there was some concern over whether or not the title would be a huge seller. After all, it's not about to sell a gazillion copies based on its name alone (only established franchises like Call of Duty and Final Fantasy have that luxury) and really, it was going to hinge on whether or not it could be labeled a "AAA product." But now that it has, analysts aren't afraid to make big predictions. According to GoOnl!ne citing GamesIndustry.biz, Cowan and Company analyst Doug Creutz has predicted total sales of around 4 million in the first year:

"Red Dead has been perched at the top of the online retailer best seller lists for several weeks now, and we believe it is poised for breakout success. Although this positions Red Dead to be another core franchise for Take-Two, given the time between Rockstar franchise iterations, it is possible we might not see another Red Dead title until the next console cycle."

Maybe not, but we'll certainly see another Grand Theft Auto, which means that if RDR really takes off and solidifies itself as one of the generation's best, Rockstar would be able to trade off between two top-quality blockbuster franchises. And if that's a distinct possibility, we most definitely won't complain...

Its been pulling in reviews of no less than 90's with the exception of one from Eurogamer that strangely is only counted for the ps3 version.

Its also been said that the games are identical, so all those who were paranoid can stop being so now. So the main difference is the ps3 has some exclusive items.

I've noticed that, too. On top of that, you'll see some reviews on a ps3 game would be listed as a '75' for example, only to see the actual review score to be a 'B' or an '8.5/10'. Are these examples of Metacritic purposely skewing scores in favor of 360, or just occasional errors that might as well happen on the 360 reviews? I don't know. I'm too busy enjoying my games that I couldn't care too much, anymore.

Possibly Gods, but it's questionable. It depends how popular the western genre is currently amongst gamers, anyway, sales figures will show this soon. It's a Red Dead year.

Whats with everyone acting surprised that RDR is going to do well? Red Dead Revolver was superb on the ps2, so why is everyone acting like a R* game selling well is something new? Seriously who looks at an awesome game like the original Red Dead and says "I bet the sequel flops"? It's common sense! Certain studios are going to give you top quality games time and again. R*, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and your Kojima productions of the world just to name a few.

i think its because we haven't seen an excellent western shooter, i mean we've seen everything else, from racers to sims and shooters and action/adventure games and so on, but nothing that is a truly blow out western game.

can count me in.....this game has had me psyched since last year....was sad even when it went from april to may, but if it means less bugs, im cool with that! Westerns are fun, i really did like Call of Juarez 2, only because it was a nice change of pace from modern weapons to wild west weapons.....Lets go!!
