PixelJunk Shooter 2: "Jam-Packed Full Of Crazy Fun"

If you've been keeping up with some of the underground gems on the PlayStation Network, you know all about Q Games and their ongoing list of PixelJunk titles.

One of those solid, unique, entertaining experiences came in the form of PixelJunk Shooter, which was a borderline ingenious blend of shooting and puzzle mechanics. And if you were a fan, you'll be happy to learn that according to a recent post by Q boss Dylan Cuthbert at the PlayStation Blog, the sequel is in "full production." Furthermore, it won't just be a simple follow-up; it'll boast plenty of additions and enhancements, and even a few new features never before seen in the PixelJunk series. Said Cuthbert:

"We're busy implementing all the ideas that were left on the drawing board for the first game to make [PixelJunk] Shooter 2 as jam-packed full of crazy fun as possible. I'm pretty sure we won't make a [PixelJunk] Shooter 3 because everything and the kitchen sink (probably quite literally) is going into this game."

And to celebrate, gamers will release a free demo of Cuthbert's favorite PixelJunk Shooter level on May 25. This particular level includes "explosive gas, magma, water, tons of cool enemies and volcanic eruptions." So if you need a break from the full-budget, blockbuster productions and you just want to kick back with a leisurely and very original little game, you know where to look. This is one franchise that definitely needs to march forward.

I didn't end up buying the original but people said it was cool so I guess I'll wait for the sequel :D. You only need so many arcade shooters.

Off-topic: I'm glad to see so many User Reviews so quickly. I voted that I would contribute reviews in the poll awhile back, and I won't be called a liar. After this week I'll have to write something up. At the moment I think I'll do a review for Critter Crunch, as I was dissapointed that PSX didn't have the time for it.

Yeah I'll have to contribute something too when I have time. I just don't know what to review.

@ WorldEnds - Review Bayonetta. I saw what you wrote in the forums. Your impressions on it would be a hilarious read.

I'll go and write one as soon as I'm finished with the finals, I'll probably won't be on PSXE a lot next week.
But yeah, I think I'll write a review on either one of the Kingdom Hearts game (1 or 2) or God of War 3, just to add to the growing pool.

The charm of these smaller games is their simplicity. I hope they don't overdo it and clutter it up.

I thought Bayonetta was fun World, a bit over the top but pretty fun. Either way PJ Shooter was pretty fun, the 2nd should be just that way!

Some of it was fun, once I bought enough moves I could appreciate the smooth fighting mechanic but the level design was poor. Everything was floating in space. The graphics were bad, you can't have both normal and non-moving cutscenes in the same game, the story was blah and the characters were flat. The enemies were all very similar. The arcade shooter was stupid, the vehicle controlled scenes were gimmicky. The best part of the game was after you beat it and everybody danced together, lol. I'll review it right here, I give it a solid 7.5.

I really liked PixelJunk Shooter it was very entertaining, and I'm glad to see the second one is on it's way.
Going to buy it as soon as I have enough reason to get a PSN card, I should get a credit card when I turn 18, much easier to spend small amounts on the Playstation Store (I think)...
