Sonic 4 Won't Give Us Nostalgia Pangs Until "Late 2010"
Oh well, damn. It looks like we won't be able to relive the glory days until later this year.
Although most of us were expecting to return to a 2D format with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 this summer, Sega has just revealed they want to give Team Sonic a bit more time. It's not exactly a huge delay and when it comes to recreating one of our favorite side-scrollers (in an albeit slightly modern fashion), we figure the developers should have as much time as they need. The press release said that "the additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands." In the end, they want to provide the die-hard fans with "an unrivaled classic Sonic feel." Now, that, we can embrace...but let's remember that any fans would have to be pretty die-hard, considering the downward turn this franchise has taken over the years. Throughout all that time, many of the old-school fans really despised the transition to 3D - despite a few decent Dreamcast iterations - and soon, their preferred dimension will return.
Just gotta wait a bit longer, that's all. Oh, and if anyone cares, Sonic Team will also make the game available on iPhone/iPod Touch as well as the PSN, XBLA and WiiWare.

I think this Summer belongs to Modnation Racers and Red Dead Redemption
I think Autumn's a better time for Sonic anyway. The holidays is a better time for "cartoon looking" characters since they can be featured in holiday commercials, etc.
We NEED more platformers
Good thing we have LBP
But I want more!
That image looks amazing...after the really bad 3D Sonic games, this will be so fresh and FUN
No matter the dimension, what matters is how FUN and engaging a game is.
Super Mario World beats the crap out of a lot of 3D games*

This is great for Sega, their next move should be:
-Valkyria Chronicles 3 on ps3
-Shenmue 3 on ps3
-Skies of Arcadia 2 on ps3

Sega,
So far, not so much to show for
Here's a much needed suggestion for you ....
Try considering that "ALL' your games are important enough to do the same for every one of them too.
