Square-Enix Might Announce "Shocking RPG" Before E3

We know about Final Fantasy Versus XIII and we've long since given up hope on a Final Fantasy VII remake, so what might this new RPG be...?

If you haven't heard, there have been some Twitter updates that have turned the head of many a role-playing aficionado. The first comes from Square-Enix PR lady Sonia Im, where she says there's an "unannounced game" in the works that is bound to "shock" everyone. The cryptic update ends with, "You'll never guess what it is," which of course means everyone is guessing. And you know, the unveiling may be coming a lot sooner than anticipated: after seeing this, we didn't expect any sort of official announcement even at E3 (just seems too soon), but in fact, Square-Enix might lift the lid on this project very soon. Square-Enix producer David Hoffman has said he's trying to get it announced "before E3." All right, so what's your best guess? We have yet to see the Final Fantasy Versus XIII media blowout we were promised - it was supposed to have arrived in "early 2010" - so it might be that, but the title has obviously been announced. Perhaps good money is on Kingdom Hearts 3, although we could always hope for Vagrant Story 2...yeah, that'd be a futile dream.

Square-Enix could use a shot in the arm these days. And if this mystery game is big enough, it might just have the intended impact.

I'm almost certain Square won't make any PS3 exclusives. So what ever they do its going to be more of the same watered down junk that was FFXIII. I had faith in Versus but Wada was quick to dash a bucket of cold water on my hopes of getting something exclusive and over the top from Square.

According to sales, targeting Western audience works.
Even though it might suck that they are catering to the twitch crowd, and leaving the old formula that gave them fame and recognition behind, the games are selling well. Which tells SquEnix it works, and they need to continue on this path.

I do hope its kingdom hearts 3. Kindgom hearts was the last rpg I have played where I felt so emotionally attached to the characters. I hope versus 13 changes that.

Don't expect anything good from them. I gave up hope. When ever I hear Square, words like "lazy", "greedy" and "disappointment" pops up.

Now I assume the worst from them, so whatever they announce can only get better from there.

Heck, I'd even be happy with a completely made over turn based implementation of Xenogears with nice modern graphics and updated music and voice acting.

It was, Monolith Soft, published by Namco. I think Namco owns some rights to the characters, Monolith is now owned by Nintendo. Of course Xenogears was developed by Monolith Soft and published by Square before they became Square Enix.

But hey, I can hope can't I? Perhaps Namco and Square Enix could work together? Heaven knows the world needs more KOS-MOS.

I don't get excited anymore. Which in fact has turned out better for me personally. If they released crap i'm not dissappointed. If they release something awesome, then cool something awesome.

Gave FF 13 a play this week. Tried to farm som gil. To say the least, gaining money in this game has been THE worst when comparing to the past titles. It uninviting, making alot is NOT guaranteed regardless of how long you play, hence greatly restricting you, making FF 13 less fun for me to play.

SE has been decieving this gen. Remember when The Last Remnant was supposed to be only for PS3 worldwide? Went to 360 while PS3 owners didn't even get the game.

At this rate I don't want the current Square Enix to make a FF 7 remake. They've already given us a preview of how they've probably screw it up massively.

Like Godsman said, it will probably be the multiplatform version announcement of Versus XIII.
Though I really hope it won't be, I still have my little ray of hope shining in my head, though after Wada spoke yet again (which is a bad thing, like always) that ray got a little smaller yet again.
Why would he even speak of such a thing, all the trailers still say: For Playstation 3 Only, WORLDWIDE.
As if to say, sorry we f*cked up and released FFXIII on the 360 also, here's something you'll hopefully all enjoy, it has better graphics, in-game and out-game and though it won't be a turn-based rpg, but FullmetalX10 really loved Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 so we thought it won't be so bad if he likes it. And it won't, it won't be so bad Square, just make sure it stays Playstation 3 exclusive, then it will be a day 1 purchase regardless.

But yeah, all day dreaming aside, I hope it will be the official announcement for the Playstation 3 exclusive Kingdom Hearts 3.
I mean come on, they can't multiplat Kingdom Hearts 3, it's a series with a continuing story line.

And I kind of hope it won't be a Final Fantasy 7 remake, since there is the possibility of it going multiplat, or them ruining it.

Don't screw us over on this one Square Enix, please.

I firmly believe that it will be Kingdom Hearts 3, as Mr. Tetsuya Nomura has said in the past that he wants two Kingdom Hearts Games to be published this year, and one of them is Birth By Sleep. However, deep down, I'm giving KH3 to be the announcement a 60% chance.

It can be the FFVII Remake, but that would contradict the "you'll never guess what it is", unless S-E has really dropped the ball, and they are magically deaf when it comes to the millions of fans that have been crying for the remake...

It can also be a true unnannounced game, for the DS, or Wii, or for the PS3 and 360 (i.e. multi-platform) and it will end up not doing well, when it releases, like for ex. Infinite Undiscovery.

I got FF XIII and i cant even finish the dam thing cuz it sucks so much. And S-E will continue to make crao and strap on DQ or FF on it to sell em and ppl will keep buying it cuz it says S-E or FF on it. We should all get used toto crap fron Japanese games from now on. To me S-E is dead. and i hope they NEVER do a FFVII remake cuz they will destroy that game.

And even if most u dont buy S-E games anymore it wont make a diff to many ppl out there who buy stuff just cuz its got a certain name on it regardless of quality. Best example MW2. Frankly the only RPG or JRPG thats comes close to the gems of the past is DA:Origins all others are sub par to the great PS2 and PS1 RPGs and JRPGs. And i hightly suggest before u buy a game now to rent it or borow it. Dont support mediocracy or crap rent the game first.

While I whole heartedly agree that Square has fallen off my map for the most part I have to agree also with Highlander about WKC. It is an amazing game that is up there with JRPGs of old. The story might be a bit thin and tried but at least it is a good offering in a genre that is severely lacking in the way of true entries.

You guys know what will happen if they make a FFVII remake, right? Well, first off, I would love to see it because it's more or less in my blood. But it's likely it will be multiplatform... and remember how much content was taken out from FFXIII? Scary thought!

But, let's theorize that it's released on PS3 only, it's amazing, and only adds to the experience. There will still be a plethora of people who will say "I'm high and mighty and am better than all of you because I appreciate the fact that the original is better." Which, for me at least, will drive me up the wall. lol. Then people will say "they should have just remade FFVI" or something like that.

I dunno, I don't really have a strong point to make other than saying that no matter what happens, they'll never make everyone happy. I plan to just take everything in stride as news is released.

It does fall squarely (no pun intended) into the business model that SE seems to be aiming for. And with the financial success off Final Fantasy XIII I am sure they are thinking that it would be a wise decision to move Versus over to multiplat status.

Square-Enix is being tricky keeping a project quietly in the works and just happpening to mention it before E3. Not a clue what it could be but if I were to take a shot in the dark I would guess it's some revamped title that nobody would expect coming out.

I quite frankly don't care at this point. Their naive, stupid and unbelievable responses to the gaming community have only upset me.I hope I offend them by saying this. I'm hoping they make me eat my words.

as much as Square Enix has screwed with our minds with games with disappointment after disappointment

making ps3 exclusives multi-platform

then making another game to apologize then considering multi-platforming that 2 WTF

Then the we have something that will make history in japan is a free online game browser

as much as im in impressed with SE job when they actually give u the game im more disappointmented that they screw up more

Everytime time they say a news will shock people , it always happen that it s something that was bound to come out sooner or later . Socom 4 for example , while a great news for many people ,there was no way that we would never see another one .

I got the feeling it will be KH3 but i really hope it will either be FF tactic 2 or vagrant story 2 .

As a side note , most over hyped unveiling must have been g4 announcing that they would be showing Heroes .

I'd Love a remake of FF7, but S/E was lazy with FFXIII so I doubt it.

I bet it is Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve 1&2 ports on PSN.
