Tekken 7 In Early Development
Although some say Street Fighter IV overshadowed Tekken 6, many fans of the latter franchise will agree that the sixth installment was yet another fantastic battling experience.
And of course, you can't keep such a popular, long-running series down. Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada recently spoke at a conference called, "The Legend of Tekken," and talked about the challenges and ideals that a project manager must have in order to lead a team of 100 designers to the promised land. Harada has been spearheading the legendary fighting franchise for over 15 years now, so if anyone is aware of a new title... And yes, according to Eurogamer, he did indeed confirm that Tekken 7 is currently in development, although admittedly they're just starting out. It'll be interesting to see how they approach this new entry; the competition suddenly got a lot stiffer this generation, as even some 2D fighters have turned heads ('cough' BlazBlue 'cough'). Also, who knows how this genre will continue to change in the advancing years of the industry? Maybe it's time to introduce some RPG elements; i.e., experience gained for new abilities, stat increases, etc.
At any rate, at least we know another Tekken is coming at some point, which is more than enough to satisfy the fans. Right?

Interestingly, even though the mentioning of the game being called 'the final chapter' could be found in the XBL description, it's not found on the PSN description.

I'm thinking that the XBL game you're referring to is an older arcade version being released to XBL (and hopefully PSN at some point).
The thing is that each and every Soul Calibur has painted itself as the ultimate. Virtually every battle it the ultimate battle of good and bad, of the lightness and darkness or of Soul Calibur vs Soul Edge. That kind of hyperbole is kind of the game's thing. You know?
Either way, if there is room for a Tekken and Street Fighter sequel, then there is more than enough room for a beautiful sword based fighting game with jiggle physics.

And as I mentioned before, the story of each character seemed to have been concluded. Some characters were said to have 'disappeared from history' while others achieved a long-term goal they were reaching for (including in regard to soulcalibur and soul edge).

I really like Lars though, he's a very solid member of the extended Mishima family. Once you get his style down, that boy's devastating.

And with Tekken 6, they just expanded on what worked with 5. Seriously, if you were a fan of 2, I strongly urge you to check out 6. But, I do agree, Tag was disappointing.

Story mode blows in my opinion on T6 but when i judge fighting games i don't take story into account

Not a lot of gaming sites now days cover the fighting game genre unless it's a hugely promoted title like Street Fighter, Tekken or Mortal Kombat.

For starters, fighting games are meant for the arcade scence being so neither SEGA or Namco would do a drastic thing to alienate arcade operators and players. With that said, keep that crap out of Tekken and VF.
"Tekken 6 was a total let down for me"
Tekken 6 was never a letdown, unless you're talking about the sh**ty console conversions which are nothing like what is in the arcades. Essentially Tekken 6 for the PS3 and 360 were botched ports.

I forced myself to play through that tekken force mode in order to unlock all the characters in the arena...and having to suffer through that made me hate life for a little while (and tekken for even longer).
Hopefully Tekken 7 will leave out the tekken force garbage and focus more on perfecting the network code.

But I like Tekken. Six was kind of a letdown for me, So I'll be interested to see what changes they make to Seven.

It ruins the balance of the game and quite frankly i think its sad that Namco keeps catering to a more casual crowd with horrible modes like Tekken force mode. Its ok if you wanna add that stuff to the game for them but don't make it so those of us who are in it for the fighting have to play the other modes to unlock cash to upgrade outfits. Thats dumb

You're right on the fact that the arcade PCB that ran Tekken 6 was similar to the PS3, yet you forget one thing...both SEGA and Namco are known to modify their console-based arcade hardware by adding more RAM and clocking the CPU beyond the console.

Whereas, the PS3 version runs at a native pixel resolution around 525p with either motion blur or anti-aliasing, but never both.
The 360 version, on the other hand, runs at a native pixel resolution slightly above 720p (then scaled back to actual 720p) when motion-blur is disabled and then, like the PS3, way down to 525p when motion-blur is enabled. I haven't done actual running comparisons, but the Digital Foundry has determined that the PS3's 525p+AA option offers the best looking image when motion-blur is disabled.
I do expect T7 to look a good step better than T6. Harrada made it a point that in the early design stages of T6 the PS3 based hardware wasn't pinned down and much was developed on a synthetic spec.

But yeah, I really liked Tekken 6. Story mode was no joke. New characters are all top notch and have a ton to add to the game as a whole (They're not just thrown in half-assed). The depth of the existing characters has increased nicely (moves, styles, etc...). All in all, a great game.
In fact, I'm more interested in Tekken 7 than I am the next Snore-Fighter. (C'mon...that has to have been the slowest street fighter game, in the history of SF games). Don't get me wrong though, love SF...just kinda annoyed with the meager handful of characters they 'graced' us with.
