Rumor: New PS3 Bundle Features LBP, HDMI Cable
It has long since been a sore point amongst consumers with the intention of buying the PlayStation 3: why doesn't a system designed around high-definition gaming come with an HDMI cable?
This was an even more prominent question when the system first launched at its disagreeable $599 price point but it remains a perfectly legitimate question at half that price tag. But perhaps Sony is finally remedying this issue; at least, so far as a specific bundle is concerned: according to PlayStation LifeStyle, new SKUs are coming to retailers and they boast an HDMI cable. The 250GB PS3 is priced at $349.99, which isn't bad considering you get twice the HDD storage space as the standard 120GB version but now, a new SKU says a 6-foot HDMI cable and a copy of the Game of the Year Edition of LittleBigPlanet will be included...and for no extra charge. Yep, still $350. Obviously, if SCEA had officially announced this bundle, we would be reporting this based on the press release, but it seems as if one retailer "already has this bundle to sell," and they're just waiting on the green light from Sony.
You can see the pictures that help to semi-confirm the rumor through the link above and we have to say, it sounds like a darn good opportunity for those who either don't yet have a PS3 or perhaps had one that just recently suffered a breakdown. We still want to see HDMI cables included in all PS3 boxes, though.

Have to say it also illustrates how much "cost cutting" Sony has managed to do, in order to be able to absorb the cost og adding a HDMI cable to the overall package. I also believe the move is to make it easier and more compelling to hook your PS3 to an HDTV "out the box" for the ones who are still sitting on the fence undiceded. It may compel newbies to purchase a HDTV set simultaneously, knowing their new PS3 bundle is HD ready from the get go... It's easier for people to digest the fact that they can now play 3D games and movies "out the box".

A friend of mine recently bought an X360, just because he couldn't let this bargain slip:
A local toy store offered a 360 elite with the games Pure, Halo ODST, Forza 3 and LEGO Batman for just 200 Euros!
Kinda shows how worthless the 360 is becoming.
*Edit* 200 euros is about 245 dollars right now, but not that long ago I saw a clean xbox arcade for that price. It also is especially cheap because almost all companies take their American prices and put a €-sign in front of it.

Message to Sony...YOU DON'T NEED BUNDLES AT THIS POINT, YOU NEED TO FILL THE SHELVES OF STORES WITH YOUR MACHINE!!! (sorry for the unabashed shout fest)
Sony, I can't remember the last time I saw your machine, a 120G or 250G on the store shelf. People are not screaming for an HDMI cable, or a bundle, they are screaming for a new system that they can buy, take home, and make love to, err, I mean play cool games on, maybe an occasional BluRay movie. When the Slim first came out, I remember several times seeing a guy coming out of Best Buy with a Slim and a game or two, and me being jealous. Not becuase I didn't have my own Slim, but because that lucky SOB was going to have some serious fun that night. When I got my first 160G Fatty, it was a blast unboxing it, setting it up, and playing Uncharted for the first time. The days of me seeing those lucky SOB's was MONTHS AND MONTHS AGO. I don't see it anymore, because there are no machines to buy.
There is something to the idea of striking while the iron is hot, and right now you are smokin' baby. E3 is coming, and you don't know what ole' M$ has in store for you. Rumors of a price drop in conjunction with their "own" slim model. You have this window of perfect opportunity to get more units into homes, and I feel that, if these past 12 months were like a football game, you are ahead in the game 34 to 10, but you could be up by another 4 touchdowns had you been able to meet this rabid demand. M$ is not going to take this beating laying down. They are not stupid. (ponders RRoD and Natal) Ok, let me rephrase that, they are not COMPLETELY stupid, they have a few tricks up their sleeves, and you may just be wishing you had done a LITTLE more to meet demand while the demand was at a fevered pitch. Impulse buys can fade, or be refocused somewhere else. If M$ lowers its price, or copies the marketing model that YOU SONY created by rolling out a cheaper spiffed up model, your future customers might just say, "Hey, me wants that instead". Come on, speed up that production line please!

Couldn't agree more. What are they thinking? to make bundles they have to hold the systems longer, like they did with MGS4 and right now its nearly impossible to find a PS3 at all.
Sony has made so many mistakes when it comes to the PS3 that sometimes I wonder how it did not flop completely, my best guess is that the product is just too good to fail but, their handling of if has been atrocious at best...
They should be thinking about bundles for the holiday season and for when GT5 comes out, now is not the time for it. Want to include HDMI cables with the system? be my guest but, just get them out while you are still the hottest ticket in town.

And for you, you can afford to take your time until you find one on a shelf since you are not in dire need for one as it will be more of a convenience buy rather than it being your first PS3.

NYC does not have any. My best friend who used to live here in NYC and now lives in Uruguai, came over a few weekends ago and we went to three Bestbuys, five Gamestops and a few Target's and could not score one. On his last day here he was buying some clothes to his little daughter and got lucky in a mall all the way down in Long Island. But yes' its almost impossible to get your hands on one right now.
The funniest thing was that when he got to the airport in Uruguai, they had a bunch on the duty free section, for the same $299 Hahahaha other countries seem to have more stock than we do :)

My point is bundles are used to spur sales. Sony does not need to spur sales in the slightest. They can't sell what they don't have on the shelves.
And your guess is they are trying to get rid of their stock? Surely you jest. What stock is there to get rid of? You can't mean PS3 units, since there are none.
