Enslaved: Some Of The Best Visuals We've Ever Seen?

Now, before you scoff, bear in mind we're talking about the developer that first presented us with a glimpse of what the PlayStation 3 was capable of way back in 2007...

Ninja Theory, the team behind one of the PS3's first great exclusives, Heavenly Sword, is currently hard at work on their new action/adventure title, Enslaved. The game has been in the headlines a lot lately, and it's primarily because the details that keep leaking out from the European designer are pretty darn impressive. And you know, we like it when we hear feedback from fellow journalists who have actually seen the game in action; take CVG's early analysis as an example. They say it's "as colorful as Mario, as detailed as Gears and as beautifully animated as Uncharted." ...um, all right. Now, bear in mind that the studio decided to go multiplatform after making "no money" on Heavenly Sword, and CVG's man made such bold statements after seeing Enslaved run on the Xbox 360. He says the platforming sequences "look straight out of Naughty Dog's game," and overall, "the set pieces we saw were absolutely of Uncharted's caliber." Considering this, if the actual mechanics can also live up to expectations, we should all be in for a very big treat.  Cross your fingers!

We may have to hit up Ninja Theory to see if we can get our hands on an early build...it's looking too good to wait on.

Looks great, better than Heavenly Sword even.

On Enslaved, I still refuse to believe that the people that gave us heavenly sword will ever give us a sh**ty game. A day one purchase for me

Oddly enough, this game really reminds me of Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. By this I mean the look, the feel, and the total art style of the project.

From the video, the graphics are amazing when the game-play's not being so hectic, but as soon as all hell starts to break loose, then I think it become way too fuzzy.

they can believe that they have the best with certain things separately but in the end, its all about how it all goes together. Even so, i highly doubt it since its multiplatform. since the xbox is the least common denominator, i doubt microsoft would allow anything but an identical or near identical result for both versions. They're already getting beat down in the exclusive game section, they cant afford to show that the ps3 can outdo the 360 in multiplatform games. the devs are probably being "bribed" to make things as close as possible or give the 360 the edge.

Instantly reminded me of Uncharted 2.

Will wait for a review before buying. But it does look very promising.

It'll be hard to top Uncharted 2 though. That game set a whole new bar for all other action/adventure developers out there.

YES!!! OMG!!! Totally agree. About damn time a post-apocalyptic world had colour. Fallout 3 and Gears of War are great and all, but it looked so bland. Thank God Uncharted changed all that and showed us that colour and great graphics/art can still exist in realistic looking worlds. Avatar kinda helped too, when you think about it.

A bunch of people like to dismiss Ninja Theory and Enslaved because they decided to go multiplat. It may not be on the level of Activision or Capcom (for some), but it's still hate to my eyes.

we dont hate ninja theory, were just saying that their game could be better if it stayed exclusive. Its a fact that a multiplatform game wont hold a candle to a ps3 exclusive, uncharted 2, in terms of quality. My reason for not getting this game is that it doesnt interest me one bit. i dont really buy that much games for the hack and slash genre. so far i have 3, so far god of war series (just to see what all the fuss is about), Dynasty warriors gundam series (its gundam so i tried it out and loved it), and ninja gaiden sigma.

Kinda reminds me of the 3D Bionic Commando Capcom released a while ago.

But it looks good.
Still not wow'ing me though

The two characters, specially Trip don't do anything for me (SO FAR). Trip just seems like an annoying person who bosses you around. I could take that if she was actually a vixen like Bayonetta or a babe who could actually save her own life. Trip is just that annoying babe you hate to be around. This is what I THINK so far. Nothing wrong with a little opinion of what's been shown. She might be lovable later own, but not digging her at all. Monkey seems more like an animal than anything...

Trip is actually a kind of tech genius in the world of Enslaved. She should do the things Monkey is incapable of doing. I'm expecting her to be like Elika in the '08 Prince of Persia game. Well, that's what I'm hoping anyway.

Count me in among the crowd that's scoffing at this! As colorful as Mario and as detailed as Gears. Whoopty doo!

Ninja Theory had a full BD to fill and they gave us a four hour campaign. Now suddenly they've got some outstanding product that's crammed onto a DVD?

If NT thought HS was a failure... they're in for a world of hurt with this release.

Looks more like a Unreal Engine game than anything.

It shows when the actual gameplay is happening.

I mean it looks good. But not near Uncharted 2 at all.

It's more like Bionic Commando (search for some images, you'll see)

like i said earlier, you can say that you're better on something on one aspect on one game, bad company 2 and their vistas, but it doesnt mean it would be better than a lot of games out there like uncharted 2.

I agree with most of you all that think this game has potential, it has the potential to best its predecessor Heavenly Sword (yes I know it's not a sequel) because of the recent discoveries tapping into the PS3's potential. Oh wait...this is a multiplat.

Well, despite its non-exclusive air I'll remain optimistic about it, the videos so far look great. I just wish they would reveal a little more about the individual characters as opposed to the I die you die notion. I don't mind babysitting but she damn well better have some prodigy worthy AI. The idea of protecting a suicidal babe or a chick acting in no way to stall her own preventable death really grinds my gaming gears.

Um....like Uncharted2? No. Like Uncharted 1? No.

The game immediately reminded me more of Ratchet and Clank A Crack In Time more than it did Uncharted. I'm specifically thinking of the Zolar forest on Quantos - early in R&C ACIT. I remember when playing it how it seemed to imitate Uncharted's style. I got the same feeling from Enslaved. The far more vibrant color palette and stylized character models push me more towards that as well. The platforming looked like a blend of R&C and Uncharted, and the fighting looked more like that in R&C than Uncharted too.

As I said in an earlier post, Enslaved reminds me a lot of ICO in the way you have to baby-sit an almost completely useless broad. The only difference is that Trip might just be able to do something. I'm hoping that it splits up the two characters at points within the game though, just so you get a feel for what each can do. NT did it for HS, so why not this.
GOTY contender, I think not, but hey, it's well-known that anything can happen in the gaming industry. I wait with bated breath, although I don't like that they announced that it will have DLC already. I hate the DLC culture.

as for the story of enslaved, i dont know. the guy was a slave to the robots or whatever the enemy is. then was "freed" only to be a slave to this other character. i wonder if they'll make the person that "freed" you the final enemy to ultimately gain your freedom. anyway, i will keep an eye out for this but i still dont think i will get this game.

though if anyone can pull it off ninja theory can, heavenly sword is still one of the best games the ps3 has to offer.
i cant believe sony has not announced a sequel to that series though since they own the IP, why not give it off to sony SA.

In my opinion, I think the multiplat that's visually closest to (yet failed to match UC2) is RDR and it took Rockstar about 5 years and a massive budget.

CGC probably haven't looked at UC2 in a while.

Well I just went from Meh, to maybe playing it to get a easy platinum trophy. The graphics don't even come close to Uncharted 2 quality. Like scarecrow stated, reminded me of Bionic "Crappy" Commando. Just add in a little bit of the Unreal Engine and a bit of the Heavenly Sword look. Will play, but will not buy. Ninja Theory try harder guys.

I just played Bionic Commando through. I got it from Best Buy for $10... and new, too!? If I didn't know better they couldn't wait to unload it from their shelves, and perhaps, if I would've waited longer, it would've been added into a shopping bag as a free handout..

Anyway, I got carried away there and I'm beginning to feel like this websites bargain shopper....
You having cited Bionic Commando got me thinking. Grin, Factor 5, and Free Radical all have something in common. Hopefully, Ninja Theory doesn't get added to that list. Because Bionic Commando was a game that could've been a lot better if they had taken the steps necessary to get it where it needed to be before release..


So if you're gonna make it, make it good!

It looks kinda cool, but it also looks like a babysitting game. Babysitting missions are my 2nd least favorite, next to water missions, so if the entire game is babysitting, something tells me I won't like it too much. I'll still give it a shot before I completely dismiss it though.

I think looks pretty promising. I like games that mix action and platforming.

It looks pretty good also. Best I've ever seen? Heck no. I think Heavy Rain, UC2, and GoW3 won't be topped until GT5 comes out.

From what I have read and seen it looks fun, and with some of Europe's top writers I really don't see how it could fail. It being multi-platform really is financially acceptable but I just think it will be held back, from its true potential. RDR is a really great game but the graphics just seem kind of, meh to me. I know the story in Enslaved will be great, and the camera shakes during the action, a fresh and intuitive take on an action/adventure game.

I hate seeing Uncharted and xbox in the same sentence, unless it's about Uncharted being better than something on xbox, not about something on xbox being similar to Uncharted, cuz we all know that ain't gonna happen.

And I still say meh, I don't care much for this game, the graphics are not on Uncharted's level any way you look at it, and did the xbox sentence mean they are using the xbox as the main platform(big minus)? Also that part on 28 seconds, in the trailer with that scream thing, I hate that scream thing, it's so over used in every random thing-_- and they used that sound at 41 seconds too many times as well...

I highly doubt I'll spend my cash on this.

I like the art style. But GOTY contender...? Idk about that one. I looks like Heavenly Sword graphics wise. I really didn't see a significant improvement.

Ninja Theory is talented. We all know this. I still show Heavenly Sword to PS3 naysayers and they hush up FAST. A lot of features in that game was ahead of its time. However, I think the rest of the industry has caught up and Ninja Theory hasn't advanced.

I'll definitely keep an eye out on this one. Thanks Ben. Keep the updates coming. Lord knows these other sites I check won't.
