Rockstar Aware Of RDR Multiplayer Issues, Patch Incoming
Although Red Dead Redemption is one hell of a great game, it does have a few multiplayer issues, which have been noted by many PlayStation Network and Xbox Live users.
It seems like a common trend to have a game, even of the highest quality, suffer from a few online multiplayer drawbacks when it first becomes available. Unfortunately, Rockstar's latest is no exception, as people have complained of connectivity failures and other problems concerning completion of certain objectives. But the development team is well aware of the complaints, and as they've just explained, they're currently working on a patch, which should be ready to go next week:
"We are aware that there are still some of you out there experiencing issues with Red Dead Redemption, including multiplayer connectivity and getting the Mo Van Barr bounty. We are currently testing a Red Dead Redemption title update for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that aims to fix these and other items. Due to the unpredictable nature of the testing and console manufacturer submission process, we cannot pin down a very specific date and time, but we do expect this to be released for download for both systems by the end of next week. We can assure you we are working with our partners at Microsoft and Sony to make this title update available literally as soon as possible."
And as an act of contrition, they intend to release the Expert Hunter and Savvy Merchant outfits (along with related challenges) later this summer for free. That's what we like to see. They admit everything isn't perfect, actively seek a fix, and at the same time, offer a consolation as compensation for any difficulties we may have suffered. ...okay, that may sound like exaggeration, but we still appreciate Rockstar's stance on this subject.
P.S. However, they do wish to remind you that some of the multiplayer connection issues can be fixed on your end; check your online settings for "optimal online compatibility."

Does anyone know if Sony and M$ charge the developers to issue us updates on their systems?

Nintendo doesn't do this. They release the game as bug free as can be. Same with Naughty Dog and other AAA developers. They iron out the problems before the game is out the door.
I know games are bigger and more complicated nowadays but this is like me releasing a record with missing notes and harmonies then telling my fans, "oh sorry, I'll patch the record asap. We're aware of the problems, were working on it". Seems like negligence. I can understand there would be some issues with online, but the single player bugs shouldn't exist. I think far to many devs get a pass for being lazy because it's easy to patch the problems that were overlooked before the game was released.

It's sad really, everyone giving this game such high scores but the more you play it the more bugs you find. Maybe the scores would have been lower had people played them longer and done more exploring and side questing.
Don't get me wrong game is still fun, but come on, it's like glitch fest 5,000.

It just sounds like you're looking for a fight. Jawk simply made some observations about the number of flaws found, and he didn't offer the porting as an absolute. It was a suggestion. And a realistic question to ask. Certainly other examples that are multi-platform, like Modern Warfare 2, have the same issues with getting high marks with everyone noticing flaws a couple weeks later.
So, even if it isn't a porting issue, it certainly is something that happens on a regular basis to games that are multi-plat! Surely there are programming differences to consider when developing for multi-plats, and things could easily be overlooked in the more foundational programming we find so many bugs in. So, just because he's suggesting a porting issue, that doesn't mean it's a dig at either system. It's a common problem for both Microsoft AND Sony.
And he makes a terrific point... Why doesn't this kind of thing happen to AAA devs? Besides, it just sounds like you're here to take a few digs at PS fans without offering anything valid or something that makes much sense. But, you wouldn't do that... right?
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

It has to have one of the best stories I've seen in a game in quite some time.
Also, some of the bugs I've seen videos of, I'm kinda jealous that it's not so buggy for me. I wanna ride a donkey lady and fight a cougar man. :)

Second, I'm not a troll. I don't come on here to instigate. In fact, look through all my posts and you will find that I post many relevant info regarding my like for the PS3 and it's benefits. I have both systems. I love games. I don't care where they come from. I just hate coming on here and reading garbage from posters without a clue at times. So what if I stand up for the 360 when I feel as though it's clearly being misrepresented? Why does that ruffle so many people's feathers?
And as for the "GT5 is a myth" statement, it was clearly a joke. It's been forever since we first heard about the game and it hasn't come out. I know it will come out soon and I know it will be great. (Loved GT4.) I was being sarcastic. Sheeeeeesh.
Finally, Ben, I emailed you to see about reviewing games for this site a while ago. Why would I do that if I didn't take this seriously and hated the PS3? Let's be realistic. I'm a sarcastic guy who speaks his mind when compelled. I felt compelled to call Jawkn out for his statement because it went too far and I felt like it was a dig at the 360. Give me a break. If I were such a troll, you would have banned me a LONG time ago. I'm not one and you know it.

but without taking sides. I dont think Jawknee was trying to refer to the 360. I think hes more upset that an open world game has a few bugs. but to me in a game like this, this size, and openness, its going to have a few. Writing code, and developing a game is tough work. we cant expect them all to be perfect. no game is thats why 10/10 games are few and far between.
I personally think as long as devs are putting out patches and willing to fix there rightful mistake, then we shouldnt ask for anything more! I'm having a blast with RDR despite the few hickups, and im sure regardless of how long it took R* to make this game they had a good time developing it. If we as the consumer wanna get on their back about the product they are proud of when they are willing to fix it, then they probably look back and say "sheesh we made this game for gamers to enjoy and all we get is flack." probably a pretty good buzz kill at the office if you ask me.

Anyways, I really don't think Jawk wrote anything that was garbage, and he certainly made some relevant points. He had a clue, and it was worth posting. I really feel like you just have the automatic defense button just behind your ear pressed. When I read what he wrote, I certainly didn't think he implied xbox was to blame. My interpretation was that multi-plats often have programming oversights, and that if that wasn't the problem, then R* didn't do enough testing. It wasn't specific to one system.
Besides, even if it WAS a dig at the 360... he's allowed to not like it... I don't think you should feel like the 360 is your little brother or something... you're the only one making this personal... not jawk.

I think what audia is seeing is what i just seen in your comment. you said "My interpretation was that multi-plats often have programming oversights, and that if that wasn't the problem, then R* didn't do enough testing."
After reading that i feel like what your saying is that all ps exclusives are perfect. Any game other than that will have problems. well ill be the first to say the PS3 exclusives are obviously pushing the boundaries. But comparing open world games to eachother RDR which is multiplat, and inFamous which is exclusive, I gotta say they both have had their problems none worse than the other. Saying R* didnt do enough testing is redic. the game was in development for awhile, it has a few glitches, and now they are fixing those, whats the problem?
Underdog15
Friday, June 04, 2010 @ 11:00:59 AM
And I don't think -HE- was implying PS exclusives are without faults. But it's a fair question about multi plats. Whether they use Xbox or PS as the lead doesn't matter. Multi-plats run a risk for glitches. The only point I made that was original, that still no one has rebutted and there isn't really a reason to, is that I thought he raised a good question. I certainly didn't venture anywhere to suggest I knew what the real reason was. I don't know or care. I was merely sticking up for Jawk since I didn't feel he suggested anything wrong, and he certainly shouldn't be persuaded not to make points or suggestions as mild as the ones he made. That's all.

You are a troll.
@bigrailer, yes the game was n development for 5 years and apparently $100 million was spent and it still managed to get out the door with as many bugs and glitches as it has. R* could have done better.

I know im sorry it sounded like i was placing it on you. i knew what you were sayng and, i was basically saying i see where audia is coming from minus the 360 reference.
Jawknee-
I think your missing it here. Regardless how much money and time was spent on a game, it wont be perfect. Ive already thrown out example of other open world games that rightfully should be compared and all of them run into the same issues.
I dont know it seems like from my personal experience, those glitches dont exist cus i havnt ran into any of those, and the game has only froze on me once. maybe im lucky, idk, but regardless the game is sick!

Seriously, for you to say I'm a troll is a tad ridiculous. I feel like you've gotten tired of disagreeing with me that you think the only reason why I am disagreeing you is because I'm a troll. In fact, you are really the only one I've disagreed with on a semi-regular basis. I don't look for a fight with you or anyone else. (@Underdog)
And Bigrailer, I appreciate you trying to at least explain a little of what I was trying to say. It helps to feel a bit validated and goes a long way in showing that I'm not a troll.
Underdog, I never took it personal. I originally just disagreed with his take on things and voiced my opinion. Only then did it get blown up into this big thing because that is when Jawkn used the T word and Benny backed him up with a crazier statement than that.

As for overall RDR's map is only about 1/4 of the size of just cause 2.
I really like RDR, but after 5 years and coming from rockstar I definitely expected more.

I have ran into a few, but you guys are making it out to be one of the worst developed games ever. Its open world, i mean come on. inFamous had its problems, oblivion had its issues, Fallout 3, dont even get me started, there is a trend here. open world games are simply harder to develop for given the fact of all the open area to work with.

Video games are so complex that you need to forgive a few flaws and bugs especially in open world sandbox games where everything cannot be too scripted.
I still remember the Spectrum 48K and Commodore 64K days when you were happy if you could get your game to load. If you could load AND save your game afterwards you were a happy man!
Nothing I've seen in 20 hours of RDR has made it unplayable or has crashed my PS3. Only the odd floating or buried horse or person.
Heavy Rain and Assassins Creed 2 were far buggier in my opinion.
I just love the little touches...
I whistled for my horse and he trotted over the train line to be promptly squashed by the oncoming train.
I was deciding whether to let a lady go who had stolen my horse and whilst I was deciding she was biten and killed by a rattlesnake.
I managed to shoot my own horse in the head whilst trying to shoot a skunk!
You can forgive a few glitches to experience such gems!

But on a somewhat related subject, I was having an argument with a friend of mine about the xbox 360 vs. the PS3, that started with RDR is better on the 360. Long story short I made him feel like a dumbass. His only good argument was that the majority, (and it is a vast majority) our my friends have 360's (my rebuttal was the fact that he has gone through 5 360's vs my 1 PS3).
So I am here asking for people to hopefully add me so I can have some company online. Looking for people who play RDR, and BFBC2. And who are willing to use mics too.

R* told me how to obtain it if you are too far in the game already and trust me if your past the first marshall mission you will not get that van barr bounty. Now its still iffy as if this works i tried it and it didnt but others have had success.
In this order do this, and do nothing else!
Start a new game. (dont delete your old file lol)
Complete all the Bonnie quests up to getting the lasso.
Go meet the marshall in Armadillo, you'll follow walton (of waltons gang) instead of capturing him like the marshall asks kill him. (if you capture him van barr wont show up as a bounty).
Go back to armadillo, a bounty should come up as mo van barr.
load up your original game, and the Van Barr bount should appear.
like i said it didnt work for me, but on many forums people say it has and these are R*' instructions. but if your frustrated like me and reserved your game from gamestop, and cant wait for the patch in the mean time you could try this. just trying to help out!

lost count the amount of times i run into a invisible wall, what is it with open world games and invisible walls?
a few times ive walked through walls, the floor has disappeared, not to mention there is so much pop in.
in one cut scene i was watching it than like 15 seconds in my horse just magically appears out of thin air.
not to mention the most annoying one, every time i save and turn off the game instead of loading the latest one it loads a auto save.
so every time i boot up the game most of the time i have to load my latest save if it was not a auto save.
o, and who thought up the aiming system?
whoever did is a freaking MORON!
im riding a horse at speed a enemy starts shooting me so i take aim at him and whats me reticule?
a tiny dot!
how am i suppose to see a tiny dot at speed? plus its red when on enemies so it blends in with the background.
why not ask me to shoot a ant from space?
probably would be easier you know!
things like this just baffle me, i mean how could R* miss this?
its not like its something small either, i mean you need to see where your aiming quite a fu*king bit in the game!!!!!
its like having 2 objects styled as a pistol, one a real pistol and one a lighter. your just asking for trouble!!!
extremely poor organization and attention to detail!

And the auto aim is actually pretty good. i personally dont ussually prefer auto aim, but since your complaining about the small dot as your reticule, then the auto aim in RDR should be what you need to hit some one, it compliments it very nicely.
___________
Saturday, June 05, 2010 @ 9:14:17 AM
come on especially since most of RDRs missions are babysit missions you need to take out enemies before they get too close.
i hate using auto aim because its so freaking stupid!
there would be 50 enemies shooting at me, one not shooting at me and the auto aim would select the one not shooting me so i would let go of L2 and re select it, or hit right but it selects the same freaking one.
if i did not want that target in the first place what makes you think i would the 2nd time, or the 3rd, or the 4th.
it asks a question than ignores the answer.

Makes me wonder if this is a result of a shotty port job or if R* just didn't do all the testing they could/should have done before the game was released.
EDIT: As far as the online bugs are concerned, i haven't run into any. Seems there are more bugs in the campaign mode then online.
