Killzone 3 Teaser Shows Off "Close Combat" Brutality

Although we're expecting to see more at E3, Guerrilla Games and Sony have already released a teaser trailer for Killzone 3.

Posted at the European PlayStation Blog, the video shows off some seriously brutal footage and although it certainly isn't gameplay, we learn from the game's producer, Aryeh Loeb, that it's all made from "in-game animations." He has been responding to comments in that Blog post, so if you've got any questions, feel free to sign up and ask; you might just receive a juicy tidbit as an answer. Obviously, melee combat will be more of a focal point in the third Killzone and perhaps most intriguing is the fact that after dispatching of the Helghast in the video, the character dons the Helghast helmet...and what might that mean? Will we be able to wander around in Helghast uniform in the game? Perhaps we'll get more details on this subject within the next few weeks, because we expect more updates to hit the new Killzone 3 website. We're wondering how the new Close Combat system will work in a game that is fundamentally a first-person shooter...

Either way, though, we're fairly convinced that KZ3 will once again be a FPS benchmark for the generation.

im not a big fan of FPS, but i did buy KZ2 and i was realy impressed by it, if KZ3 is as good or better as KZ2 we got another Exclusive hit on our way

Definitely agreeing on the comment regarding "We are fairly convinced that KZ3 will once again be a FPS benchmark for this generation." As KZ2 was precisely that as well, there is absolutely no reason KZ3 couldn't be.

i guess this could be why they said killzone 3 will be similar to inglorious basterds. Dressing like helghasts and going into a room full of them having a turkey shoot IB style is a sick awesome idea. And the boot to the face is just epic.

Well now that I finally was able to read the article (not by shutting the add, but by copying and pasting the text into word)

...

it would be nice if you engaged in some sort of hand to hand combat at point blank range, rather than shooting someone with 3-4 bullets in the neck, just to have that person bunch you to death.

(Resistance 2, and about 100 other games are examples of where that happens)

It's just so FRESH!
Digging KZ3's style and overall look

Guerilla can really go all out with this game now. Having the blueprint down really gives them an advantage.

i kinda think that putting on helgan uniforms/clothing is the only way to survive given the killzone 2 ending. I mean, they were surrounded by helgans in the helgan capital.

Man, melee was so hard to pull off in Killzone 2. Glad to see they're fixing that! Every time I see this game, it just keeps getting better and better. Hopefully this can become Sony's Halo, in terms of popularity. Killzone soda FTW! :D

Well the helghast are not that bad. The ISA oppressed them in the past and they are just getting revenge. Think post WWI Germany going into WWII.

thats not the greatest example, i think we can tell the Nazi's were the bad guys from WW2.
But i understand your point. The helghast were quite human in a way in KZ2, it made them seem like a proper enemy, rather than just some generic bad force. If they can give the helghast more character in KZ3, nice work...

Then we'll be playing in FMV for the whole time.

And back to the teaser, Sev is definitely a very skilled fighter, Helghast are stronger than normal humans because they were infected by a virus and Sev easily taking out a couple of them.

And then seeing Sev wearing the BADASS Helghast helmet, makes me think that there's gonna be infiltration mission.

Infiltration missions are sweet. I remember one of the highlights of Medal of Honor back on PS1 was dressing up as a Nazi and showing papers. KZ3 infiltration mission would be on a whole other level, and considering the jet packs are Helghan tech, maybe that theory isn't so far off?

ive got a funny feeling your going to find out that the higs are actually the good guys in this game and sevs going to switch teams.
anyway, im holding my excitement on this till im playing it.
i got my self so excited for KZ2 and all it did was disappoint me so ill wait on this one.

anyway, one thing i dont get about that video is both the higs and ISA are pretty well armoured can you imagine punching that?
i mean, id be like punching a brick wall.
