Vanquish Details: A Super Fast Shooter With No Multiplayer
Okay, so what do we know about Vanquish? It's being developed by Bayonetta designer Platinum Games (who are using the PlayStation 3 as the lead development platform). It's going to be featured on the next GameTrailers TV episode tonight. Now, about some more details:
Let's start with Platinum leading with the PS3. As we all know, the PS3 port of Bayonetta suffered terribly and since that time, owners of Sony's machine haven't regarded the developer in a thoroughly positive light. But the team won't make the same mistake twice - as we've heard from the Official PlayStation Magazine - and it seems clear that the PS3 "gets the definitive edition." Now, legendary designer Shinji Mikami is involved with this product, and according to OPM (as cited by Games Thirst), it will be the "fastest shooter anywhere." The magazine goes on to add that the game is "uniquely Platinum," in that realism isn't exactly a focal point; producer Atsushi Inaba said:
"Being a Japanese company and having the sense of style that Platinum has, realism is not the top focus of Vanquish, but it definitely applies to a component, as it should with shooting games. Rather than being very stealthy and taking cover every other moment, you have the boosting and melee combat along with faster, fluid tempo. That’s the big differentiator between this and other shooters out there."
Now, perhaps this is the most interesting aspect: Bayonetta didn't have a multiplayer option 'cuz it didn't really need it, but all shooters have the option these days, right? Well, not Vanquish. Platinum will not be including any multiplayer for the game as they wish to design "the best possible single-player game." ...I don't know about you guys, but there's something oddly comforting about that.

It's like buying an automatic car and then saying, "yeah it's a good car, but it would be better if it were stick-shift".

hopefully it'll offer some really good AI, and a bunch of other things to do.
cuz single player shooters i usually get through no problem in about 2 days. and i always play on hard.
until then i'll keep an eye on it.
uncharted is the perfect example of how to do both single and multiplayer right.
(if it weren't for UC2 multiplayer i probably wont b playing it anymore)

Not sure why you find that "oddly comforting" but I find it oddly "cheap ass."
Is the BD too small? They don't have the talent? UC2 proved you can do both an amazing single player and a great multi player, what are these guys afraid of?
Focusing on single player... what a joke.

And P.S., the spammers don't last. I get rid of them very quickly and they're not populating the comments as they do elsewhere. I'm as vigilant as I can be so don't complain.

i agree with you man, i mean yea im sure single player will be great, but that makes it at least a rental. if its revolutionary then ill think about buying.
lets face it
single player shooters last me about 2 days. why spend 60 bux on sumthing that will only last me 2 days.
UC2 set the bar, now for these other studios to catch up.
dun get me wrong this game looks like it'll be good, but since there is no multiplayer, ill have to hold off n wait for more info about the single player. otherwise i probably wont play it at all or at least rent

It's nothing against a game that also has MP mode, & I'm glad that they add MP for all of those who want it.
But....it's just that as a single mode-only player, I've become sick & tired of developer's either neglecting & gimping up the SP, or giving us short stick with only a short-assed 5/6 hour SP mode, just so that they can maximize their MP modes.
Or that some developer decided to make one of their long franchised game series, an MP-only game.
So WTF is that? It's like telling me that as an SP mode player, I don't rate, and that I shouldn't have the right to experience that game too only because I prefer to play alone.
And I'm sure that the majority of SP mode only players would agree with me.
BTW, as for myself, there's also the huge added monetary drain on my wallet because I'm also a gaming collector.
And as a collector, I still NEED to buy all those $%$#^$^$%%^$% MP-only games, just to try & make my collections complete.
So now I'm spending a lot more cash for games I'm not playing, just because they've screwed me out of experiencing that game in my preferred SP mode.
And not to mention, most DLC that comes out is almost always to add onto the MP mode(and that's exactly why I wouldn't buy 99.99% of it either)
Sooooo, of course that's why I'm all for any game that the developer states that it' going to be SP mode only, and that "they are going to give it their all" too.

For that matter, what developer decided to make one of their long time franchised game series an MP-only game? I am pretty certain that is one in a million there. Hardly anything to be upset about.

Come on now, you've read these same threads daily just as I do, so you can go back into the last 3 or 4 months of threads and see all the comments made about games that shorted the SP mode for MP, or only came out as MP-only mode.
But off the top of my head, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter2 is an excellent example of a gimped up single player mode.
While I'm far from the best gamer there is, & slower than most, I STILL finished the SP mode in about 4 3/4 hours. So that automatically tells me that they shorted the SP mode just to maximize the MP mode.
And how about COD MW. That a short-assed SP campaign too?
And as for a franchise game that did a MP-only game, was one of the recent military shooter's that went to MP only on their last game. I can't remember if it was "Conviction" or another title(since it didn't have any SP, it just wasn't on my radar, so no sense even thinking about it, or even buying it for my collection till the price drops to around $10 or under used(Ans since I'll never play it, it's still too high, even at it's $14.99 used price-point right now.
And the same rules apply for all MP only games, like Warhawk, Mag, etc.
BTW, as a non-collector & also being a fan of MP mode, you probably don't understand, but I'll try to explain it best I can.
I spend 1500 to 3K a year on my gaming collections, so yes, buying any MP-only games I need for my collection is still a bit upsetting to me, just because I'm not getting any actual gaming enjoyment out of them(except for seeing them sitting on one of my shelves).

Im looking forward to a shooter that doesn't shine for its multiplayer and instead improve its single player story instead.
(not to say that there aren't games out there that have already done this, I just like some new blood looking in the right direction ^_^)

I mean c'mon any dev out there can take clones of there main character, slap on a different skin, and stick 'em in a pit and call it good multiplayer.
Im sure its just a design choice, in other words (cause im aware im rambling) if they think it would help im sure they would but they don't so they aren't.

We may have come a long way, but due to some lazy and/or greedy developers & publishers it's still some what of a bad joke!
And those very same developers/publishers have also been taken our gaming backwards quite a bit.
1. gimped SP modes in order to maximize MP modes.
2. Companies who say "F" it, let's just grab the loot first on our glitch festival & bug infested game, & just maybe later on, we might even think a second or two about putting out any sort of patch at all.
3. Cutting up their full game into separate pieces, just to milk us with DLC later on, that came out of that very same game.
4. Making a full game, but locking multiple chapters in it, just so that they can charge us more for the "unlock" codes.
5. Lazy f*cking developers who just port a PC or 360 game over to the PS3, instead of investing either a separate team, or making the extra time & effort to make sure their game is the very 100% best it can be on whatever console it's for.
And the list goes on & on & on......
But I'm sure that quite a few other gamers here can, and will, also be vocal enough to add to all this modern day back-steppin' BS too.....

This but it is good in that if the single payer is a long and whole hearted one, it will be a good game. When i think of shooter stories i think of only 5-10 hours. Coz if you're gonna make only a single player, you gotta make a long story.

Oddly comforting INDEED! Seriously I could never get into single player FPS as much as other games because the ones I played the story just lacked IMO. I can see this one being much different. Consider it added to the radar.

I realize it would never happen, but I'm one to believe each game should have single player and multiplayer segregated to its very own separate disc. This way at retail I can purchase the complete single player experience and not be bothered with multiplayer which I never use.

I appreciate the focus is on story and I see others agree. However, if this was back years ago a story alone would be enough for me. Today? not so much. I've adapted so much to various game modes (not just online) besides campaign...I must have it in every game

Bioshock was brilliant and didn't need multiplayer and hopefully they offer a similar experience with this.
