inFamous 2 Lands On July Cover Of Game Informer

We all knew it was coming, and for one of the first great looks at it, make sure to pick up the July edition of Game Informer.

Sitting right there on the cover will be inFamous 2, Sucker Punch's highly anticipated follow-up to last year's excellent action/adventure blastfest. The title sold over 2 million copies - clearly warranting the sequel in question - and remains one of our personal favorites of the generation. Although the magazine won't divulge many details, they do tell us to expect a brand new city, new powers, "and a powerful new foe," which may or may not be familiar... They're also boasting about super-huge previews for the likes of Killzone 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops, God of War: Ghost of Sparta and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, so this isn't exactly what you would call a throwaway issue. For our part, we're just overjoyed that Cole McGrath will return and - presumably - we'll receive the same gameplay foundation with a different city and a few new powers; isn't this what we've been asking for all along? Anybody with some other ideas as to how Sucker Punch can make inFamous 2 even better?  The first one was pretty darn solid...

Now, just give us that big ol' Dead Space 2 unveiling, and we'll be plenty happy going into E3.

Finally! I guess it was just a matter of time. I hope they increase the draw distance and make it seem less blurry other than that it should be a grade A game :)

Basically how far you can see in front of you; it can be a big issue in some racing games.

And while the draw distance could be better, it didn't really impact the gameplay much in inFamous.

The draw distance was fantastic in inFamous. Wasn't the blur for far away objects done to ... you know... make it like real life?

I can deal with some so so visuals and a dampened graphics department, as long as i have great gameplay and a solid story. Dont get me wrong use what the machine is giving you, but its a fine line im sure.

I sort of needed the auto-lock in RDRedemption. I couldn't hit jack without it. But it wouldn't have a place in inFamous. Just tap precision to find your target, then blast away.

I hope the Game Informer cover is just a mock-up (basically a Ben Affleck look-alike with a beard). Cole was awesome the way he was. I'm slightly ticked off about the change of voice actor, too. Jason Cottle did a great job, despite cynical musings about him sounding like a David Hayter/Sold Snake knock-off. Anyways, the original formula of the game ruled, so I'm still looking forward to the sequel.

But seriously. Adding superficial changes like age is fine, but you can't just overhaul the image of an icon, especially when the game was successful. Imagine Kratos with long hair, or Mario with muscles, or a slender and emo Marcus Fenix...Not happening. Let's hope it doesn't.

@ fluffer nutter,
I happen to like A7X, but the Jonas brothers are simply run away and hide.

With that out of the way, I don't give a damn how Cole looks as long as he keeps that 'I don't give a damn' attitude he had in the original. Wait, that doesn't look right. Anyway, I hope the new city has some awesome setpieces, and is just bigger. I want Cole to have the Teleport type ability that Kessler had, in the way he shot forward and grabbed Cole by the throat in one of the cutscenes, and I want to see the implied bad guy from the end of the original ripping the joint to pieces.

Finally! We all knew it was going to happen, confirmation is always a nice thing though. inFamous was my very first PS3 game and it deserves to be called amazing and awesome! Cole has always held a place in my heart to go in the Gaming Characters' Hall of Fame.

I already love the sound of having a new city and a few new powers. However, retaining some of the old powers would be just as awesome. I also hope that those powers from the first installment remain instead of having to start from the bottom and work our way back up. It'd be pretty painstaking to start out weak again for some odd reason.

I also hope they keep with their graphics they had in the beginning. They weren't exactly what I would call revolutionary, but they were no where near sucking. And DON'T CHANGE VOICE ACTORS! I would hate for them to pull an Army of Two: 40th Day. But, I trust SP knows what they're doing. They certainly did for the Sly Cooper series.

I'd like to see Zeke come back into play. Maybe he'll become Cole's new enemy, pairing up with the Beast? And Maya, cause she kind of disappeared also. Too bad John died... I really liked him. It would be awesome if somehow he just came back alive lol. One more person that will most likely appear will be Alden. He jumped off the bridge, but Cole mentioned a Conduit being able to survive the fall. Maybe he'll bring the Dust Men back and be on Cole's side?

Eh, I'm just throwing out ideas. Either way, I'm NOT skipping Game Informer's July edition! Thanks for the update John!

Wow, I am so pumped up for this sequel, but based on the cover of the game informer, has got me a little worried. First, the cover of the game just don't look like inFamous to me, feels very artistic rather than comic book style. Secondly, Cole doesn't look as bad ass as the original one. I hope that sucker punch doesn't change the look of Cole too much just because they changed voice actor, but I thought the voice actor for the first game was actually quite good, a little along the lines of David Hayter for Solid snake, where Cole's voice was pretty rough and deep which kinda sets the dark and gritty tone of the game. Anyway, we will just have to see for ourselves when new info and videos comes out for it, hopefully in E3.

Besides that, the Playstation blog states that there will be new city, new powers and new gameplay. Now hang on, the main reason why I love inFamous so much, and one of the best game I've ever played is because of the gameplay. Really love the gameplay a lot. I don't really think that the gameplay has any sort of problem or anything, well definitely theres always room for improvement to make it tighter, but other than that its fine. If its not broken, don't fix it. I hope what the statement meant was improvement to the current gameplay and maybe introduce some new gameplay mechanics but hoepfully not an overhaul of the gameplay.

Anyway, looking forward to E3 for more information and sneak peak.

I don't get it either. It actually kinda ruins his persona a bit.

Cole was the rugged/badass hero anyone could like.

Now he looks like the amateur who wants to be/act like a superhero

The Gameinformer cover might just be concept art, which sometimes turns out to be somewhat different from the in-game model.

This is true for Heavenly Sword and other games.

inFamous's graphics were spectacular, not just for an open-world game, but for games in general. So, I'm not sure why you keep mentioning that. Maybe, you're not a fan of the comic-book style? Just put on GTA4, (which looked pretty darn good, too), and notice the difference in terms of resolution, detail, and color.

In inFamous, just kill a random npc. Zoom-in to his/her face after they've been downed, and you'll see that they don't die, and their eye's continue to blink and shift in bewilderment. That's amazing detail. Or get-in a massive street battle involving a couple super-mech conduits and 20-30 soldiers, and see how well the animation and frame-rate keeps up. Notice the beautiful lighting and shadows in the night/day cycles or when going underground. You gotta give credit where it's due. Sure it's got some minor pop-in the far-off distance, and there is some slow-down when there's like a fleet of enemies on screen blowing up stuff, but notice the zero screen-tearing.

Color me a theorist but could it be possible that you won't be playing as cole but possibly kesler[who by the way *spoilers* is cole]?-I mean this "brand new city" could very well be where kesler lived before 'the beast' ran him out.

It is also an opportunity to give more dimension to characters like trish.Cole does look noticeably younger so its all a possibility.

it was indeed the same city, and even if you were going to play as Kessler, he wouldnt be younger because Kessler was inactive before the really bad dude showed up. the raysphere jumpstarted his (coles) powers earlier than his were supposed to naturally (in kesslers timeline), to give cole a training ground for the real deal.

*END SPOILERS*

i think the diff in appearance is a translation quirk between the game and this new render.

Personally I though the original was fantastic. It was amazing from a sandbox perspective (it was like spider-man but less lame). Though Im not feeling the new design for Cole, he looks like he just woke up from a bad rave party. I also hope they don't ditch the comic vibe to the design. Though I am still excited because honestly while the major plot twists were standard for both comic and games I just never saw them coming in infamous. So continuing the story is keeping my anticipation high.

inFamous is one of those games that "more of the same" really is good enough. A new city is fairly obvious, brushed up graphics are always welcome, but other than that more of the same is sweet enough and a first day buy for me (and I don't buy many games first day... I'm too cheap ;) ).
