New Lords Of Shadow Screens Show Off Real Gameplay

If there's one game you shouldn't ignore as the end of the year approaches, it's Konami's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

The more we see and hear about the game, the more we become convinced that it'll be well worth playing. Much has been made about how it looks and potentially plays a lot like God of War but then again, what action game doesn't want to emulate the best of the best? If you're a fan of the genre, you need to check out the freshly released screenshots for the game: it shows Gabriel facing off against a titanic boss monster entirely comprised of rubble. It's clear the thing is female, though, and it looks pretty damn impressive. Oh and before you even ask, producer David Cox answers your question over at his Twitter page:

"Those Titan shots are real time NOT video. Look closely you will see Gabriel climbing and striking the runes!! That's me playing right there."

So yeah, those aren't taken from a CGI cut-scene or anything; they're straight from the gameplay. And if that doesn't remind us of the awesome encounters with those insane bosses in GoWIII, nothing does; that's anything but an insult. History is not on the game's side as we really haven't seen a top-notch 3D Castlevania (Symphony of the Night remains the crown jewel of the franchise, IMO), but we're still hoping for something very, very special in Lords of Shadow.

I can't believe Symphony of the Night is on 360 and not the Aussie PSN!!! Heresy!!!!

I would love for SotN to come to PSN, so I can play it on my PSP everywhere I go. I've only played a demo of it on 360, and it was pretty good.

Here's hoping Konami breaks the tradition of bad 3D Castlevania titles. This looks very promising.

Now for the hard decision, Dead Space 2? Force Unleashed 2? or Lords of Shadow? I'm already definitely going Last Guardian and GT5.

I'll be shocked if Last Guardian comes out this year.

I'll definitely keep an eye on this, I love GOW style action and the series needs all the help it's getting from Kojima for some kind of reboot. I kinda feel like it will be a solid experience but not much more than an 8, however one can hope. Really looking forward to the music.

Looks good. The more I see of it the more I like it. I love these kind of games. I hope it'll be the best Castlevania since SotN.

Ok, here's what I don't understand...

If they could take screen-shots from actual gameplay,
thenn why couldn't they just put up a video too, from that same actual gameplay????

Because that would make too much sense, of course.

Great point Man.

It's probably laggy as hell and the framerate sucks, so once we get the final product the visuals won't be as good as those screenshots because they will need reducing to make it run smoothly.

It looks good. It's been a long and difficult road for 3D Castlevania games. I sure hope this one knocks it out of the park. Whatever happens I'll be simply watching from the sidelines. The track record has put me off of any day one purchase.

Yup agree. I can't really remember having any feeling close to that of SotN while play the 3D iterations. The one for the PS2 where they described the beginnings of the history was pretty good but nothing to scream about IMHO. I'm just hoping we have a gem here butttttt, not gonna hold my breath. I'll just wait for PSX's fantastic review. That should tell us everything we know being that Ben loves SotN as well. Here's to it's success ;)!

I never played any of the old 2D iterations of this series. My experience started with the 3D title that released on N64., which I enjoyed. The screenshots make this game look nice, but I likely won't be buying this full price. I've spent too much money on games lately and I've got to draw the line somewhere...

Am I the only person alive who actually liked the PS2 entries? lol

I liked Curse of Darkness. Still didn't hold a candle to Symphony though.

Oyashiro,
Ok, I think you're right & I had just completely forgotten all about seeing it.
Guess I'll go have to go check it out again.

But I think we still need an more updated trailer too.

im really looking forward to this it looks really good.
on a side note apparently ninja gaiden 3 is going to appear at E3 in a few weeks time.
i saw some so called leaked images yesterday and they look really sweet if there real.
i really hope its true, ninja gaiden is by far my favorite game in the genre and one of my favorite games overall!!!
hopefully they dont chuck a sigma 2 and remove all the blood, but than all the pics had copious amounts of it so i doubt they would do something as stupid as that!!!!!!!!!!

Did he say "Titan"? I'm sorry, but from the looks of things, that so-called Titan looks no bigger than the average God in GOW. Which is..... THE SIZE OF ANY GAIA'S fists right there.

But anyways, looks pretty awesome. I don't doubt the abilities of Kojima's involvement in this game.

Yea, even Gaia's eyes are bigger than a human.

And now that you mentioned it.......

Are they gonna boast they can show titan in real time when it's just a dwarf compared to Gaia?
