New Gran Turismo 5 Demo Shows In-Cockpit Gameplay
Everyone is expecting a finalized release date for Gran Turismo 5 to be announced at E3 and in the meantime, how's about some gameplay?
The video below shows off a lengthy gameplay session and while you'll be yelling at some dope to "get out of the friggin way" in the first minute, things kick off pretty quickly. The menus are slick and engaging and another interesting tidbit to note is that AI drivers now have names, which is clearly another detail designed to enhance the overall realism and authenticity of the game. As for the actual driving, everything appears to be fluid and fast and while the cockpit view found in Need for Speed: SHIFT was great, this is whole different thing. The sound sort of sucks and the driver isn't exactly an expert, but you really do get an idea of how the final product will feel.
There are plenty of reasons to be excited for GT5 and although we're really hoping the addition of 3D wasn't the cause for the game's long delay (and we doubt it could be), such new features should be appreciated by the fans. There's little doubt that the newest GT will indeed be the best and every time we see new footage like this, we get a touch more antsy...

First off you can't take your eye off the line because it pretty much tells you everything you need to know and second, the game is supposed to be a sim, I don't ever recall seeing some color changing line telling me what to do when I was driving.
Maybe it's only me, but those driving lines kill it for me. I hated it in NFS shift demo and someone said you couldn't turn it off, so I didn't even consider buying it, hate it that much. Hopefully GT got it right and gives us that option.

Nurburing, the 7-8 minute long track
Definitely THE track for which truly shows a racer's true skill. Not only is it huge, but the twists and turns really try your patience. And then there's the melancholic straightaway.
I hope SCEA adds this demo as a Summer gift to us die-hard GT fans. Or maybe not (a lot of people will start whining 'bout how hard it is).
By the way, the racing line can be turned off. It actually isn't helpful in a real race. It's meant more for Time trial and License tests.

You do realise it has settings? ...I'm not trying to be a smartass but If our wheels are functioning the same I'm surprised you feel that way.

I'm hoping they make major improvements in that for GT5.

After all, being a collaboration between Logitech & Polyphony it should be perfect. There's something wrong if the likes of NFS puts it to better use.
