Ubisoft Counting Down To New Driver, Teaser Video Hits
It's back.
If you're not old enough to remember, or you were simply more of a Nintendo person in those days, we should tell you that a game called Driver really made a big splash on the original PlayStation. It was quite the phenomenon, actually (just read the reviews). The sequel was also pretty damn good and although the series sort of went downhill - and then entirely MIA - after that, fans of the original games on the PS1 have been waiting...and waiting...and waiting for a great follow-up utilizing the wonders of our current technology. Well, Ubisoft is counting down to the big E3 conference unveiling, and here's the teaser trailer:
And yes, we're fairly certain you'll be doing more than pulling off some slick driving stunts in an empty parking garage. These games required super reflexes and even some creativity, and we're kind of wondering if Ubisoft is going to take more of a simulated route with the new installment. We hope they don't; that's not what this franchise is about. We just want the ultimate in flash and panache, right?

This trailer reminded me of the first driver, with the nearly unbeatable garage training (at least, for a then 8 year-old) and the "take a ride" mode I spent most of the time in.
If they'll remake the first driver with updated graphics and physics and let the character stay in his car, I'll certainly buy it. (Rather than Motorstorm 3.)
My first game for the PS2 was actually Driv3r. It was fun, but not as much as the first one.

As for car handling, was it just me or was the Lamborghini Countach just as fast as the Renault 4? There seemed no real difference between handling in any car.

It was an homage to the opening "driving test" in the original PS1 Driver, and I was smiling the whole time.
The original game was all about one thing... massive car chases in an open city. And it was So. Much. Fun. It even had a replay editor that allowed you to make custom cinematic chase videos. Then the series started getting out of the car and copying GTA, and everything went to crap. If Ubisoft can keep this one in the car, and make it great, I'm sold! Driver was king, dawg!

ahh the original driver on ps1 was a instant classic!
i downloaded it the minute sony finally added it too the PSN store and im loving it!!!
one of the best ps1 games ever released!!!
i hope ubisoft dont screw this up like they did splinter cell.
keep it simple and keep it the same.
if i wanted a different game, i would buy a different game!
why they had to turn splinter cell conviction into a action game ill never understand!
i swear to god if they do that to DRIVER ill fly to san fran, find the head producer and drag him behind my car as i fly through the parking lot DRIVER style!!!!!
