Latest PS3 Firmware Update Almost Ready
We're still anxiously awaiting the large firmware update Sony has promised for the spring, but in the meantime, little updates keep coming. The latest isn't quite ready to download just yet, but we do know what it will include.
First off, we all know the most popular form of HD out there right now is 720p, not 1080i or 1080p. Therefore, it's a little frustrating for all those owners with a Blu-Ray player like the PS3, because BD doesn't support 720p. Therefore, we were hoping to see an update that featured a patch to allow BD movies to be viewed in 720p, but evidently, that will not be included in this firmware update.
However, Update 1.5 will have a neat little option for PS3 owners in Japan. The country has a cell phone wallet system called "Edy,", which will soon become available as a PlayStation Store payment method. For the rest of the world, we'll get the option of changing the volume of user interface sounds, plus Korean input from a USB keyboard.
Perhaps the 720p Blu-Ray capability will come with that big update planned for March or April; that update may also include some major updates concerning PS3/PSP connectivity.
