E3 2010: Gran Turismo 5 Launch Date Confirmed
Remember that release date we needed? The one that we've been pining for ever since we heard of the recent delay? It's here.
After showing an absolutely mind-blowing trailer for Gran Turismo 5, showcasing all the amazing work Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital has put into this impending masterpiece, it was revealed that the new driving simulator would launch on November 2. It's a perfect time, as it lands in a prime spot to take advantage of the holiday season, and it's actually amusing that GameStop had the correct release date. The video just proves once again how far Polyphony and Co. always push the PlayStation platform, and although I'm personally not the biggest fan of NASCAR, the addition makes plenty of sense. And we just can't wait to take it for a spin; we're hoping they'll give us a demo some time before the game's launch. Also, remember that with the inclusion of multiplayer, 3D, and a new damage model, this will be very much unlike any GT experience you may have had in the past. And in the end, we should get the single most realistic and authentic racing video game ever made. It' a super-high expectation but at this point, what else can we think?
GT5 should once again redefine the nature of virtual racing and if it doesn't, I'll eat every article of my wardrobe.

I don't know where else to say this but you guys really need to do something about these pop-up ads. I know you guys need them in order to stay afloat but do they REALLY have to obstruct part of the article? I can't even read the article because a freakin ad is covering half of the article up and it won't go away! Is there any way to make it go away?

While I don't think it was a bad E3, there was tons of cool stuff, combat vehicles games are kind of just old hack.

Never doubted this game to rape every racing game out there.
Can't wait to get this November 2nd!
Great release date, gives it plenty of time to sell all throughout the holidays
The trailer was flat out beautiful....
It was like I could already see myself driving in this game!
The rally's looking good, glad to see some of it

This is, I think, what Kaz meant when he says he can release it whenever and GT5 still being a full-fledged game. If this game were to come out as is (like in the trailer) it would already blow off other racing games out there. But, it looks like something else is under the works that Kaz really wants in, hence the teaser at the end of the trailer.
Granted, it may be features that not everyone wants but we have to respect Kaz's passion into making this game. It's never about the money for him, which is true for most developers.

Anyway, the details on those projectors for both tailights and headlights is just too insane.

That's what set's GT5 apart. The race tracks look *real*. Real enough to be recognized. Just to make all you married gamers jealous. My wife and I looked at eachother ans said in unison - we need two copies!

PS3 drives BluRay, it drives HDTV, it drives 3D TV and it drives the PSN. Of course it also drives the gaming industry to a decent extent too. One device pushes home video, high definition TV, 3D TV, digital downloadable content, and online services. All that and each product is available through sony, a vertically integrated product line based on the PS3.
And by the way, just for the hell of it, the PSP is a satellite device from the PS3, allowing game, video, music and other content to be used on the move extending the reach of the PSN even further.
Does Sony want GT5 in 3D to be a 'killer app'? Sure. But the want GT5 to be a 'killer app' on the PS3 even more. GT5 should help sell consoles now, and then 3D TVs int eh future. Sony doesn't believe that 3D will suddenly sell as well as mainstream HDTVs do, they simply want to jump start the market by providing content. If 3D does take off, Sony will be in the lead position for provision of content and understanding it's creation.

As far as redefining the racing sim genre, it will, no bloody fear, but I kinda hope it doesn't because I want to see Ben eat his clothes. I'll even have some tomato sauce on hand. KIDDING!
Peace.
