Flower Developer Announces New Downloadable Project

Although it wasn't part of Sony's E3 press conference, the good news is that at least thatgamecompany's new title has been revealed.

The same team that delivered flOw and Flower has announced their newest downloadable project for the PlayStation Network; it's known as Journey and sounds - as expected - very, very intriguing. They describe it as "an exotic adventure with a more serious tone" (apparently in comparison to Flower), and one that utilizes a "new online adventure experience." You will awake in a foreign land and then you must walk, glide and even fly through a variety of awe-inspiring locales, all the while learning about some of the world's ancient lore. You can explore this unique environment either by yourself or with friends; when online, you'll cross paths with other players and have the option of teaming up. In doing so, you'll make all sorts of discoveries when traversing the diverse atmosphere and although we don't have any screens or videos yet, we can't wait to see it. This is one studio that has our undivided attention when it comes to new games.  They've proven themselves twice over.

Now that it has been announced, we'll be on the vigilant lookout for any possible footage so stay tuned. Prepare to take a Journey some time next year.

Every one of their games is great, this one sound even better. I hope they can pull off the idea and feeling they have in mind. I have faith in them.

Still never played Flower, maybe these guys should work on a full scale non PSN game since everything I hear about their games is good.

I already have Flow(awesome game), and I was able to snag it for free when they had that 1 night promotion

But, I really hope that they'll actually put together a disc-based package deal on all their games later on, cause I'd love to have those games sitting up there proudly on the shelf, right in with the rest of my PS3 collection.

But if not, they'll probably be 1 of the very few digital-only based games I ever buy.

The fun factor of these games completely eludes me. I couldn't bother playing Flow a second time and Flower, although certainly more interesting to look at than Flow, is again, just not a game I would ever see myself going through again. With such low re-playability I feel the asking price is too high. Even if Journey is great, I've been burned twice and that's enough for me.

But if they made Flow, and then Flower, should this next game be called Flowerier?

Great! Another innovative title! Why won't thatgamecompany settle for traditional values in gaming? Why won't they be happy with uninspired and unimaginative ideas...always trying to distinguish themselves by expanding and creating new concepts of play. Man...innovation really grinds my gears. But keep at it thatgamecompany I'll continue to buy your games and gaze upon them in complete awe and realize once again that bullcrap rants like this are only indulged through people who can't appreciate the greatness and fascination of something lacking the potential and possibility of spontaneous combustion.

Flow wasn't my kind of game. It was kinda boring, seeing only some sort of "sperm" move around blue background. Flower, on the other hand, was the only game to have given me relaxation whilst playing. Can't find that in any other game.

I never thought of it that way. But it kinda fits. They both go for a FEELING before anything else, but they make completely different games.

I am sooo pumped for this... I've been waiting for something along the lines of flower in terms of awe-inspiring views.

Also have been wanting to go back and play flower ever since I left for NZ. Probably my favorite downloadable title of this generation!

If this was included in E3, it would of put Sony's conf up from just satisfactory.

Possibly the best news FOR ME.

Im not sure why you hail FLOW as such a masterpiece, it could of been a great game if they added things to actually make it a game.

It's an interactive experience and not simply a game in the normal sense. It was always that and never a game. You have to learn to open your mind to new forms instead of expecting everything to fit your perception of what a 'game' should be.

All im saying is, it had potential to be fun but it wasn't. In the end thier was no point in playing it, unfortunately.

I guess I need to repeat myself...

What is the point of playing any game? The point is to enjoy yourself. If this game doesn't fan your flames, then that doesn't make it any less of a game, it's just to your taste.

So is it a game or not, you seem confused. Sorry you can win a game, but you cant win flow. It was just lacking somethng.

*sigh*
You persisted in calling it a game, so I decided to go with your terminology for the sake of some common ground in the discussion. Picking at the choice in terms does not alter the fact that you not liking Flower does not make it any less of a product (game, interactive experience or otherwise). Does it?

I liked flower, I think we were discussing flow. Which if came out next week wouldnt of got half the attention or praise it did. It probably would sell as a mini on the store.

In that case, I will simply have to poke my eyes with a sharp stick and apologize with no reserve since I for some reason was replying as if you were talking of Flower. I do apologize for not reading properly. Apparently I need both new glasses and a refresher in reading comprehension.
I am sorry.

P.S. I didn't like Flow much either.

I agree with World. Why can't they make a full scale game ? Surely they could make a full length game rather than PSN titles all the time.

Flow got great reviews.
Flower got great reviews too. Unless they dont have the money to make lengthy games ?

The development team is something like 4 people. To make a full scale game it would take just four people an extraordinary amount of time. Also, if they added a large amount of people to the dev team then I think it would take away from their smaller group oriented vision. More people means more ideas and input and while it isn't always a bad think to have more input sometimes it certainly is, especially if you already have a small team that meshes well and works on each other's ideas.

Considering that there are 'full games' with SP campaigns shorter than 8 hours and it took me more than 8 hours to complete Flower, I'd have to wonder what constitutes a 'full game'?
