Yamauchi: GT5 Date Is Finally Final
Last fall, it was revealed at the Tokyo Game Show that Gran Turismo 5 would launch in Japan come March 2010.
But that didn't happen, as Polyphony Digital delayed the hotly anticipated racer, likely to add some final tweaks and 3D compatibility. But because we've already had one significant delay, there are some who aren't taking yesterday's announcement as gospel. We suppose we can't blame them. However, according to what GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi has told CVG, that November 2 release date is written in stone. The only answer fans should need from the master is the thumbs-up sign and a "yes" when asked if we can be sure of no further delays. We're wondering if Sony had a little something to do with this...with God of War III and Heavy Rain cementing the first quarter of 2010, they probably didn't want to overload the first part of the year and only go into the holiday season with LittleBigPlanet 2 and SOCOM 4. GT5 is the PS3 exclusive that should assure Sony of another great Christmas so maybe, just maybe, Sony had some input on the matter. It's logical business sense, after all.
Look at Twisted Metal. Dave Jaffe once told us he'd "shout it from the rooftops" if he could, but the ball was always in Sony's court, so we all had to stay quiet.

Also, I don't understand the holiday boost thing. If a game were to release earlier in the year, does it really effect the sales in the holiday season? For example, if GT5 is to release in January/Summer 2010, does it mean less sales in the holidays than if it were to release close to the holiday season?

Some kids only get games from ppl at christmas so it's a big selling time and it could make a bigger difference than you'd think. I know when I was a kid, christmas and birthday was about the only time I got stuff.

That way great PS3 exclusives are scattered over the whole year. And next year we'll get Last Guardian, FFvXIII and Twisted-fuckin'-Metal!
Well, I'm still hoping for the first two games but TM will certainly don Sony a few hardware sales. Now imagine TM being 3D compatible at launch =)

In the case of GTPSP, Kaz (in his own account I guess) has multiple times said that it will continue its development after GT5 is done. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and a lot fans went against him for doing that, probably also because of the reasons that it might looked like a rushed production. Sony was never in the minds of the people who are mad by the turn of events, but it should.
I definitely get what you mean by the way, and I'd feel really bad for Kaz if things do change. The article clearly states about any other possible delays in mind, unlike the time when he announced March 2010 from last year's TGS.
