E3 2010: Metal Gear Solid: Rising Cuts Its Way Into Our Hearts
The purists may not like the fact that Metal Gear Solid has gone all Ninja Gaiden with Metal Gear Solid: Rising but...good goddamn, maybe you haven't seen this yet.
Konami has officially announced Rising for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and along with that unveiling came the very first gameplay footage. This third-person action slashfest appears to be beautifully choreographed and designed; Raiden as the lead character should definitely shine. The flashy ninja has been "revamped with upgraded cyborg technology resulting in a fluid style of gameplay simply described as 'Lightning Bolt Action.'" In all honesty, we weren't holding out much hope for this one but we obviously forgot that anything related to MGS is basically awesome.
So, what do you think? Pretty sweet, huh? No, there probably won't be much in the way of stealth but quality is quality. Besides, we have every confidence that Kojima and Co. will eventually release another stealth-oriented MGS at some point in the future. And don't forget that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP is considered to be "MGS5" by the designers and it's a legitimate portable Game of the Year contender.

Just being fair here with the statement you presented - but no...I kind of know what you mean.
I still hope though there is some amount of stealth action in this game - but seeing how you cut of body parts and go wild with your sword...I honestly don't know how you can act badass swinging that sword of yours around and stealthily at the same time. If Kojima Productions can do it - hey they've won me over.
I'll be getting it...when it's like $25-30 or so.
But overall the trailer was good...but kind of repetitive at the end - I mean it just showed...............well CUTTING.
What about more elements? Right now just cutting? And what did Raiden take from the human enemies? From the Mech-bot he certainly took some power source...but...I mean
OH C'MON guys at Kojima Pro. ANSWER ME! What is this game about?!

MGS2 was probably my personal favorite. The story was timed so right and left me baffled. The gameplay had elements that MGS3 DIDN'T have. It's also worth adding that MGS2 made psx's top 10 of the decade list.
This video rocked imo. Yeah we'll always wonder what the game could have been had it stayed on the PS3 and nothing else. But the fact of the matter is everything Kojima touches turns to gold. Rising will still rock. I was a little worried that the gameplay might not be anything special. I thought we were going to see another DMC clone. And yet some how Kojima Productions has managed to surprise me again.
THIS GAME WILL BE A D1P for so many different reasons.

call it Tomato, tomatoe, potato, potatoe, so what????
Yeah, although I already knew since the very first announcement of Rising, that it was one of his younger teams that was actually going it, it was STILL under his guidance & direction.
And perfectionist as Kojima is, even if he didn't do it himself, he'd would never allow any crap to leave his production studio.

But seriously, why put the Metal Gear name to it, why not just make it a whole new franchise of game. On it's own merits I'm sure it'll be good but it's not really an MGS game if you take away the main core element of stealth. Just my opinion anyway.

I was originally opposed the the game but after seeing the footage, I'm genuinly excited. I'm a huge fan of the franchise, so I'm happy with any Metal Gear game, but it is refreshing in a way to have a new take. However I hold out hope of anything Solid Snake related in the future, new game or old redone.

Looks like this will be the first MGS game to be completely banned in Japan - no way CERO will pass 'Metal Gear Solid: Rising slashfest action' even with an 'Z' rating.
Kojima said a while back that he's about to break a certain industry taboo and may retire altogether if he screws up.
After that trailer I guess he referred to Japan only. Us bloodthirsty westerners like the red stuff, well except German game censors, but that's a different story (it's funny if you're German ^^).
I never was expecting much from an MGS spin-off title, especially after reading that MGS4 was the first PS3 game to utilize the whole DL BR disc.
Guess Rising won't feature that many pre-rendered cut-scenes then :P
But the E3 trailer changed my opinion, looks rad.
Consider my interest piqued.

They're kinda twisted. We know that Japanese entertainment industry produces the world's weirdest/sickest shit. But it's different with games. Guess they are so strict on games as they are interactive media.
Let's take NMH as an example. The game was heavily censored in Japan (and Europe), as well as the PS3 HD remake. Only uncensored versions were the US-NTSC ones (Wii and 360).
Mad World wasn't even released in Japan - where the Wii install base is rather large - as CERO would certainly refuse classification.
Extremely violent games are either not released at all in Japan or only in heavily censored/edited forms, it's very similar to Germany.
Fist of the North Star (and RGG aka. Yakuza) are bloody games but they're no way as graphic as Rising.
I don't think blood is an issue to CERO, it's rather graphic violence and gore. Hence no Mad World and NMH only heavily censored.
Fist of the North Star got added violence for its western release if I remember properly.
I can assure you that CERO won't pass even their highest 'Z' rating, which is legally enforceable, on MGSR. Heck, they even Censored GOW3 (which got an 'Z' rating) - dunno whether there were any violence-related cuts, but the Aphrodite scene was too hot for CERO, so they replaced the vestments for non-revealing ones.

I've got no concerns for Kojima, worst case scenario: No MGSR release in Japan. Not a problem to him - he intended it for an international/western audience anyways :P
It'll sell for sure.

Thanks MS. You have created a generation of Twitchy gamers who can't sit through 5 minutes of cut scenes.
All the comments on the IGN forum are something like this.."this is the MGS i have been waiting for, hopefully it doesn't have cut scenese like MGS4 and oh, i thought this was an Xbox exclusive, what gives??"

Yea, MS probably ruined that one. I'll wait for more gameplay info and reviews anyways.
Maybe it'll turn out decent after all.

Although I'd rather all of MGS games staying on the PS3, I'm still happy to be able to play any new MGS game, even if it's only a spin-off one.
Matter of fact, I wouldn't mind see Kojima Productions make a spin-off game based on each & every one of the characters in MGS, but just give them all to me on the PS3.
They could show the storyline of how each character got to the stage where they're at now, with everything that led up to this point in history, and utilize their own perspectives to make each story different.
Come on now, I mean who else wouldn't also want to see the history of Meryl done, as seen from her very own beautiful eyes????
I sure f*cking know I would!!!!!

I have no problem with rising going multi anyway, even if it suffers, for me I see no evidence of a emotionally engaging story befitting the franchise there to begin with, exclusive or not. Peace Walker which I'm about to fire up is where it's at.

Granted it was shown on 360, so might be ok on ps3, but from what I saw on g4tv in Hd, it wasn't as good.
As for the gameplay, honestly being able to cut a watermelon doesn't make me ooooh and aaah. I'm not a fan of twitch gaming hack n slash and so unless there is a lot more to this game than what is shown, I'll probably have to pass.
Sad, because MGS4 was so amazing.

Kojima's known for a shitz & giggles, or two inside his games, just like his little snicker...."time to change the disc,...oh wait it's a PS3"(or words close to that effect).
And that just tells me even though they toil hard honing their craft, they're also showing everyone they have fun doing it too.

Either way, I will get this. More info will determine whether it's a D1P, but I have a good feeling. Also, where's my cutscenes damnit. If this doesn't have at least four hours, I'm going to be disappointed. Follow S-E's example and put it on three discs if you must.
Peace.

for one simple reason, it delivers on what it promises.
they said cut, take. and they certainly did allot of that!
id love to see this added with move support, it was so cool the way you could trip enemies up than slow down time and slice them horizontally in half!
i think i have my substitute for ninja gaiden.
actually, this is looking like the best sword fighting game ever released!
Kojima strikes again!

Dose any have any idea how this game works? Is the game engine just calculating new polygons on the spot after you bifurcate an enemy or is this voxelmaping of some sort??
Also, Arnold or Ben still waiting on that Peach Walker review?

I love all the Metal Gear Games. I agree with Jawknee I was like maybe I'll get to play as Snake later on. Nothing, then Snake helps you and you bump into him thats when he says use my name Pliskin (a reference to Escape From New York's Snake Pliskin played by Kurt Russell).
