E3 2010 Attendance Numbers, E3 2011 Receives Date
It's always amazing how quickly E3 moves, and just how fast we can put it all behind us and focus on the coming year.
This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo is complete, and the Entertainment Software Association has released the attendance numbers for the show: around 45,600 attendees from 90 different countries around the globe came to attend the major press conferences and visit booths from 300 different exhibitors. These statistics are a bit higher than E3 2009, which saw 41,000 attendees storm the Los Angeles Convention Center. Speaking of the LACC, this is where E3 2011 will be; the ESA has announced the show's return to the popular arena, and next year's event will run from June 7 through June 9. Highlights from E3 2010 include Sony's PlayStation Move and 3D presentations, Microsoft's Kinect and Xbox 360 Slim, the 3DS and a new Zelda from Nintendo, and other big-name games like Gears of War 3, Twisted Metal, and Killzone 3. We have no idea what awaits us at E3 2011 but in all honesty, we don't really care right now. We'll just recover from E3 2010 and thank God that summer isn't loaded down with high-profile titles.
But of course, we're only mere months away from the inevitable fall crunch, which is bound to be just as insane as ever.

So I guess we can already start rumors out of no evidence about what Sony, Nintendo, and M$ will show at next year's E3.
AND DAMN IT SQUARE ENIX...you've pissed me off with the supposedly "NEW" KINGDOM HEARTS TITLE YOU HAD - OH IT'S CERTAINLY NEW ALRIGHT YOU DAMN MOTHER ****ERS IT'S DAMN NEW ...Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded - HONESTLY DAMN YOU SQUARE ENIX!!! YOU CONSISTENTLY DAY BY DAY DISAPPOINT ME!
At least...at the very least...Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still exclusive to the PlayStation 3. That's great to know...and Nomura sama better get his game up and show it at TGS 2010. The Japanese are waiting...they've been waiting 4 years damn it! And hell Nomura sama has been working on this for 7 years - WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON THERE?!?!
But if not this TGS...or the German Gaming show (forget what it's called)...IT BETTER BE NEXT E3 - or I'm considering it officially the next Starcraft Ghost - that's right....VAPORWARE!

@kraygen, they are letting regular people in. SCEA let 150 fans into the press conference for free. If one wants to go see the game booths then they would have to actually purchase tickets. If you work for a retailer, you get a discounted rate too.

2. They tried Atlanta and it was too hot and sticky.
3. The Super Bowl is hardly an example of equal/fair treatment for fans; it has always been restricted to a select few locations (ostensibly due to climate). Most NFL cities have never hosted a Super Bowl. The only northern city for which they would even consider breaking that pattern is NYC.

i was worried everyone would waste their time on stupid motion controls and yet again i was right,
i really hope next year goes back to the way of last year, last years was probably the best ive seen.
not many big titles announced but there was plenty of them.
hopefully next year they take a page from last years book and announce lots of new games and actually big blockbusters too.
as they say quality over quantity, but both cant hurt!
or maybe they could fudge E3 next year and drop all the bombs at gamescom this year?

I honestly think the second half of the year will have fewer great games than the first half (which HAS been amazing).

As for the Spring crunch, well, my backlog is already way too big, and it's only going to keep getting bigger. Good times.
Also, maybe next year you should give John a real job and send him to cover E3. Seriously, I sometimes feel like Ben is the only writer for this site. (No offence to John or Arnold, I know you guys do your fair share too.)
Peace.

GOWIII and Uncharted 2 really made a difference.
This year not so, but one thing's for sure, at least PS Move and 3D won't take up as much time for E3 2011 since they're out by then.

Sony did an awesome job and I am sure they are already looking at what they can bring to the Tokyo Game Show. It was a great show, but i guess they can't please everyone.

Oh and apparently its not long a maybe that the Xbox will destroy your games, its now a guarantee if the console is moved while on. Anyone else see that Destuctoid video?
My dog got behind the TV and when i yelled at him he ran out quickly yanking my Wii down to the ground while it was on running and game and it didn't even freeze let alone destroy the game that was inside. lol!
Too answer your question, my guess is MS will jump the gun again.

Remember though that the games are not streamed, the graphics in games are created by the console itself from data on the disc, but created by the console. As long as the texture data and graphics engine are there, both consoles can produce 1080p images.
Now in a real world situation of running a game, the 360 isn't really capable of rendering a game at 1080p. It can render games at 720p and 1080i and scale the image up to 1080p, but it is never rendering at that level. Frequently 360 games render below 720p in order to save CPU ad GPU time for things like full screen anti-aliasing. It's a trade off that often produces a nice, clean image.
The PS3 is powerful enough to render games all the way to 1080p as WipeoutHD has shown, although even that game dynamically lowers (and raises back up) it's resolution when the action gets too much for the game to handle in 1080p. Like the 360 most PS3 games render at 720p/1080i. The PS3 can scale the images as well, as can all 1080p HDTVs. Many third party multi-platform games on the PS3 will render below 720p because the graphics engine is not full optimized for the PS3, and some titles (exclusive or multi) will render at a lower resolution to save CPU/GPU time for full screen anti-aliasing or other post production effects.
Either way, both consoles are capable of rendering at HD resolutions (720p or better), regardless of whether the game disc is DVD or BluRay.

As a developer, I'd rather have the Blu-ray, so I wouldn't have to futz with compression or multiple discs, but DVD doesn't necessarily "gimp" a game.
Warhawk can almost fit on a CD (that's CD, you know, what they used for the PS1); it could fit about five times over on a DVD-9, even with the expansion maps.

PS3 is still growing. The fact that you can come along 4 years into it's life and add 3D rendering and output should tell us all something about the power of the platform.

I couldn't agree more. Football is not an arena game, that is what the arena league is for. Football is an outdoor game on grass in the open weather where men work and play hard for victory.
Personally I am a big fan of the old skool smash mouth style, and love a good defensive battle. Go Redskins!
@JMO_Indy
No need to defend Indiana. Apart from anything else the Indianapolis Colts won their SuperBowl trophy in an outdoor game that was one of, if not the wettest SuperBowl on record against an outdoor team. I think that they destroyed the myth about Dome teams in that one game.
Go Colts!

Let me process all the information from this year's E3, let me buy and play all the announced games, and maybe they can start talking about next year's E3
