Kojima: ZoE3 "Pushed To The Back" In Favor Of "Taboo"

So mastermind Hideo Kojima has several projects planned and two of them are getting all the attention: one is Zone of the Enders 3 while the other is a mystery "taboo" game.

And because of the latter, ZoE3 has apparently been put on hold. Kojima said as much during a strange impromptu Q&A session shot from his hotel in France for the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker event. You can find the Japanese video over at Andriasang and although he still won't go into specifics, he does mention the following:

"Regarding ZOE3, there's been various things, so it's been sort of pushed to the back."

Then we heard from producer Kenichiro Imaizumi, who said it really isn't easy for them to do another ZoE installment and they'd have to stop doing "something else" first. Both Kojima and Imaizumi added that ZoE3 is always a hot topic of conversation wherever they go, which isn't exactly surprising considering the immense following the first two titles created. Oh, and when asked about Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Kojima refused to comment because - as the developers told us - it isn't his MGS game. He will still supervise the project but as Imaizumi said, Kojima "passed the torch to Matsuyama and Kimura."

Then, the question about that "taboo" game came up and Kojima responded:

"The Taboo is a project for high spec machines that I'm hoping to do myself next. It may or may not be a taboo, but for me, I think it will be quite the problematic game."

This really sort of indicates a type of game that he isn't quite comfortable making, so we're all starting to think of different genres... We are hoping that whatever it is, it's the massive PS3 exclusive that has been rumored. Anyway, that's the Kojima update for now and although the shoulder massage is a little bizarre, we figure Kojima should get shoulder massages from girls whenever he damn well pleases.

lol he does work with a hot babe, forget her name but she's cute.

He says "for high spec machines," which probably means it's multiplat.

Just hope it's good and not something like Front Mission or something

Well, it could be a translation oversight. In Japanese there's regularly no difference between sgl. and pl., it's context sensitive.
Thus he could actually mean 'high spec machine'.
Besides there's that "PS3 exclusive rumor", kinda coincidental, ain't it?!

Heck, even if it's multi-plat I don't care, as long as Kojima-san doesn't compromise any content for DVD-size's sake I'm cool with it.

It's Kojima after all and he's already proven he can handle Sony's hardware rather well, unlike a majority of third party developers.

maybe its high spec machines and uncomfortable because it's going to be made for high end computers. Just another thought of what it might be.

I've probably said it before, but I would love to see Kojima get his hands on Dragonball Z. It would actually be done with love and not be a slightly better smelling piece of crap that is released every year or so. Tenkaichi 3 is still the best out of the bunch, (Infinite Worlds if ur a 2D freak, I like both) but I think that it could still be done a whole lot better than it has been. Better yet, what if he was involved in a FFVII remake? Eh Ben? Eh? Eh? Eh?

I agree with you on this one, Tenkaichi 3 is still one of the best fighting games of all time IMO.

i think he didnt want to be at the microsoft presentation because he really doesnt have anything to do with Rising. It most likely just a PR stunt thought up by konami or microsoft in order to fool people to think that it is a Kojima game and we got it on the 360. if the guy kojima "passed the torch" to was the only one presented from the start, people wont really care about the game. hell, i dont even know or want to know his name. without kojimas name on this title, would it even get as much attention as it does now.

Kojima is a Sony loyalist.

Sony needs to acquire Kojima Pro. Put in an offer with Konami already!

I would still consider him a Sony loyalist. I remember him saying something like "Because the Metal Gear Solid series started on PlayStation...it will end on PlayStation." - something like that.

And if you think about it - yea...the main series has ended(?) on PlayStation...with Peace Walker.

Snake Eater 3D and Rising are really just some spin-offs. If Rising really was a part of the Metal Gear Solid series - you think Kojima sama would let it be directed and designed by someone else? I doubt it.

Kojima is a serious playstation and sony loyalist. nothing happened has disproven that at all. A multiplat spinoff. which he isnt creatively involved in, and a handheld remake of mgs 3, means nothing.

It would seem Kojima is losing his touch. His comments make it sound like he's not actually in control of what games his name shows up on. I hope this is not the end of Kojima PS3 exclusives.

no no, i think with MGS he's finally trying to loosen his grip and seeing as this is such a departure for the series i think he thinks this is a good time.
i don't know about him hanging around with the Xbox now, perhaps may mess things up but well see.

Kojima had nothing to do with Rising. they may say he supervises but he wont have any creative input on it. you can tell because they already stated that this was not a kojima game and that story is being sacrificed for rising.
Kojimas appearance on the M$ stage was most likely a PR stunt thought of by konami or most likely microsoft in order to shift more units for the 360 that probably wont happen since most 360 owners only care about halo or gears. i was talking to this guy and just because of the E3 microsoft presentation, didnt even know it was multiplatform.

I wouldn't be so skeptical, Alienange. I'm certain it's not (his end of PS3 exclusives). Kojima has a long history with Sony (about 20 years, right?) and I guess he still has a few surprises for Sony up his sleeve.

Kojima always had a sense of quality (and epic cut scenes ^^) so I'd rather imagine what he still can offer to PS3 (exclusives) rather than what will be multi-plat ;)

positive thinking ftw =)

I'd crap myself if he teamed up with Yoshitaka Murayama for a Suikoden game. That seems highly unlikely and wouldn't make much sense at all though..

whats even more hilarious is that microsoft keeps forcing him to go on their conference in order to fool people when he doesnt have anything to do with Rising. Even the dev team making rising said it wasnt a kojima game. i watched the microsoft conference and kojima was just there to "pass the torch" to the Rising director. Looked like he didnt want to be there. Another funny thing in that rising presentation, the crowd was in awe then raiden was cutting a watermelon. maybe they knew that that was the best thing they'll ever get in the M$ conference.

He looked even less happy than Newell. I didn't see this year's appearance, but I would imagine it looked much the same.

I wonder when his contract with Konami ends. He may have lost some of his enthusiasm, given they seem to be forcing him to do things he doesn't want to do.

How does creative head of Japan Studio sound to everyone?

So he's got ZOE3, the 'taboo' project and his collaboration with S-E, as well as his involvement in Castlevania:LOS, and supervision on Rising to deal with? He's using a whole hand for those pies!

Unless Taboo is the S-E project, which would make sense with their 'EXTREME EDGE' idea. Ah, as long as he lifts the lid on something soon, I'll be happy. Come on Hideo, give me something to get excited about.

KOJIMA KAMI NAN DESU!
Peace.

Unlikely, the Japanese don't mind such stuff as long as it's censored (mosaics) XD

I can imagine he plans to do one single cut-scene, kinda MGS4 without any gameplay, would be rather funny and very taboo to call it a game ^^.

Have to give credit to MS for the smoke and mirrors job putting him on the stage. For the people who know him by name only, this may have those on the fence buy the game. This is almost Antivision sneaky.

But, they weren't. Happy with Peace Walker...wait n' see for Rising.

@Jawknee - uhg dont remind me. PS3+ remakes or games fleshing out Zanzibar etc would be amazing. We got a taste of what he could do with "prequels" with 3 and damn... We all know how that turned out: fantastic.

And on this taboo project - I really wanted to be a little ticked off because ZoE3 would be amazing on ps3; although with all of the movement towards multiplayer (they even made mgs:o) i wonder if it would gain enough traction for non fans to make it a purchase instead of a rental.

However, I think it would be really nice for Kojima to spread his wings a little and get some time to flex some new muscles.
