Jaffe Confirms Twisted Metal Beta

Sony ended with a blast by allowing Eat Sleep Play to unveil Twisted Metal to cap off the E3 press conference.

Since then, the Internet has been abuzz with what to expect; the multiplayer footage shown off on stage (and on the show floor), the currently scant single-player details, the new screenshots, and in general, how a new generation will respond to the longest-running PlayStation franchise. And if you're itching to give it a try well before it's complete, you'll be interested to know that Jaffe and Co. are planning a beta test. This comes directly from Jaffe's Twitter page:

"There will be a beta. Not sure if it's going to be public or just semi-public (i.e. Sony workers, friends,etc)."

Gamers everywhere are hoping for a public beta, especially because that multiplayer action looks downright insane and very fulfilling. Beta are often good for both fans and developers; the feedback designers get is usually invaluable (or so they say), and those seeking to buy get a chance to play for extended periods of time beforehand. Of course, the beta should always be treated as just that - a beta - 'cuz some people forget that. But at any rate, be it public or semi-public...we want in, guys.

hell yea i want in on the beta. subscribing to qore i got in every beta they put out but one i think. i really thought the game play looks like a lot of fun. i look forward to at least trying this game.

Know what ya mean, I never got into a beta either, unless I call my "OnLive" system testing beta, a beta.

Hell, I never even got the chance to test or play a damned single game while in their beta test.

I think he might be referring to this weird thing that OnLive did where they had you run the specs on your PC and a speedtest pretty much.

I honestly think that whole scene is a lie and when they started getting back results that not everyone in the world had the same speed internet or spec PC they realised it was a crap idea.

At least I hope they realised it was a crap idea.

I want to try this before I consider a purchase. Rather have a demo to show some of the single player. I'm starting to get interested in this game after playing Black a little bit yesterday (didn't even know my PS2 still worked...lol), but more or less for the story then the gameplay like most games with me.

They "supposedly" have gone LIVE on-line last Thursday, June 17th.
And they've also put up a new "Founding members" waiting list sign-up page (which ends midnight July 15th) to get ONLive's monthly fee for free the first year, with a 2nd year option of $4.95 a month(not including the games that are selling so far for their regular MSRP retail prices too).
I can't see them surviving long unless they drastically change their pricing plan to a way lowered game price, especially since you will lose all your bought games if your subscription's not renewed.

And since you'll still have to pay for the games, and lose them all if you don't renew your subscription, I'm seeing ONLive only as a expensive games rental system.

Now about my beta, just what Coverton said.
It was just a 7 day PC spec check & ping type test for ONLIVE to Computer compatibility issues, is what I'm guessing.

Anyway, never got their little set box or any other equipment from them to test out the system at all.

And to top it off, the set box & controller wasn't even available, or even out at all, at the time I did their beta last month.

Beta's are a giant waste of time. You seriously want to spend the little amount of gaming time you have in a week playing a beta?? What the heck for? Bragging rights? That's the only possible explanation. Put friggin' trophies in your beta and then you'll have a real reason to brag.

Um...to be able to sample a very big game well ahead of time, and even the opportunity to offer feedback, is appealing to many gamers. Doesn't matter to me if you don't get it; I've been in plenty of betas and they're usually fun, and different than your standard gaming experience.

I can understand the hesitancy of offering a public beta. Many people probably don't understand that they're playing an unfinished product in a beta. They could be turned off the game by its rudimentary form, and sales could take a bit of a hit.

I'd definitely check it out if it was made available. The last beta I participated in was MAG.

I hope it's public, but I also hope that they look very closely at who they invite to the beta.

Like how has the person been a ps3 user, what kin of games he/she buys, etc.

Basically, they should only invite "real gamers."

Or just make it "semi-public." I can enjoy the vids either way.

i really cant wait for this, looks like this will be the first game that drags me online it looks really cool!
im really disappointed though there going for a T rating i mean david has such a sick twisted mind (pun not intended) TM rated T is like PoP or mortal kombat rated T.
it just does not suit the series.
i was really hopping for that famous david jaffe brutality craziness and gore, looks like ill have to wait a little longer :(

I wouldn't mind getting into this beta. I've had semi-good luck with getting into them when they are closed or small betas and not open to everyone everywhere. Mostly blizzard games though. D2/WC3/TFT/WoW etc.

This game doesn't look the best to me, but it's Jaffe and it shows a serious amount of potential, especially since the release date is quite a ways away.

I participated in one beta... Home lol I may have been in one other one but I really don't remember. However, I would be greatly interested in a Twisted Metal beta and if Live can guarantee such a thing, the money is already put aside and ready to go.

And Ben better get into this beta, he most certainly deserves it. Keeping news like that to himself all the way up until E3, being one of the extremely few to know about it is deserving of a beta code.
