Final Fantasy Versus XIII Details Surface, Unveiling Soon?
It was a no-show at E3 this year but new information is creeping to the surface, and the last update we heard was that we can expect a full unveiling at the Tokyo Game Show this fall.
In the meantime, various pieces of new information have been circulating, much to the appreciation of anxious fans everywhere. An interview with FF producer Tetsuya Nomura in a Japanese gaming publication has been leaked, complete with screenshots and all the relevant highlights. The pics in the magazine are admittedly low-quality but they show the game running in real-time gameplay, and in sharp contrast to the start of Final Fantasy XIII, this one "employs an open field concept." Hence, you can pretty much travel wherever you wish at all times (with a few exceptions). The other details are as follows:
- Enemies will be visible on the field, and while some enemies are wandering around, others will suddenly appear and surprise you.
- Battles are seamless. The only loading in the game will occur when moving between very large areas. They’re aiming for the ultimate in seamlessness.
- Objects along the paths of roads can be destroyed.
- You’ll be able to use a car as promised. You can exit it and move on foot at any time as well.
- Most people will not believe their eyes when they see the high quality of the battles in motion.
This also says we should expect the game to make a big splash at TGS 2010, and the team currently remains very "motivated." Nomura himself may want to unveil Final Fantasy Versus XIII before TGS and as an added bonus, Square-Enix should be bringing currently unannounced titles to the upcoming show as well. For now, we'll be satisfied with what we have...despite our disappointment that it didn't steal everyone's hearts during Sony's E3 press conference.

We always used to joke about them making a FPS but this is actually gut-wrenching that he actually wants to make one.

This is taken directly from the source you provided:
"One day," Nomura says without confirming anything but his own interest, "Sure, I'd like to make a first-person shooter."
He didn't say "Hey, I'd like to make a Final Fantasy FPS" or a "...Kingdom Hearts FPS.", just FPS in general. And to just make it strait, even though some of my most favorite games have come from him, if he made an FPS, I wouldn't buy or play it. I may be interested to see if he would make an FPS interesting, but I probably wouldn't buy it, lol.
Try not to take someones words and then magically add more words to it. That is one of the worst things man has ever done with stupidity, lol.

You just can't seem to admit when you are wrong. Jawknee didn't say he was going to make Final Fantasy a FPS or Kingdom Hearts or any series for that matter. He just addressed the fact that Nomura is contemplating "Giving into a western approach"
Honestly you try and oppose Jawknee on just about every post of his you comment on and thats fine to have a different opinion than someone. But do not critique their posts in a way that you take what they say out of context or try to manipulate what they intended.
READ AND UNDERSTAND THE POST BEFORE YOU REPLY TO IT.

Also, on a personal note. I'm about 35 or so hours into FF13 and I still don't seem to care about the characters. Please tell me it gets better.

I'm also playing FF13 now. I'm playing not out of enjoyment but of sheer annoyance of the characters and the character development as well as story progression. I'm just playing along in the hopes that it will get better...
Off-topic: i played RDR today just to check out the new DLC. Anyone "fortunate" enough to experience the XP glitch?

They can't blame PS3s hardware here, as they actually pulled off more than satisfying visuals on FFXIII in native HD.
So I assume laziness is the answer.
As far as I know they didn't put much effort into story either ('story ain't important in an MMO' or something like that) and I don't really consider MMO-spin-offs as FF-canon.
Maybe I'm solitary with that opinion, but I couldn't care less whether FFXIV went full multi-plat or not, just not interested in it :P

The more info surfaces the happier I am.
As far as Japan's concerned vXIII is a PS3 exclusive anyways. Can't imagine them crippling the game to make it '360 compatible' i.e. ditching free exploration etc.
SE made over a million sales on the 360 version but I doubt it'll convince wada to f*** up vXIII to earn some more MS greens.
Furthermore it seems MS pour all their resources into Natal nowadays, sorry I mean Kinect, as they didn't announce any exclusivity deals during E3 (besides that '360-owners-get-all-COD-maps/DLCs-one-month-earlier-for-the-next-three-years' announcement) and rather promoted Kinect like crazy.
As long as MS doesn't approach SE I doubt Wada will make the first move.
Honestly, can't imagine that 1.4 million sold games made their investment profitable. MS certainly dished out a huge sum of money and expected way more than that. I don't wanna even mention the 'quality job' SE did with the port.
Taking all those facts into consideration it's very likely FFvXIII will remain PS3 exclusive internationally and kick ass.
Hope SE can redeem themselves with their fans by releasing a FF game that's back to former glory, reinvigorated for a new audience of gamers and appealing to long-year fans alike.
They could really pull it off with FFvXIII, I won't lose hope.
In all honesty, I was always looking way more forward to FFvXIII than FFXIII. That didn't change after I finished XIII in January (got the Japanese version).
Let's see it positively: personal preferences aside, SE can't do a worse FF game than FFXIII ^^

Of course that's just my personal experience with the game.
It's fun while it lasts.
I even liked the story and characters. The Japanese VAs were stellar once again, as expected - the English ones are decent though, judging from trailers.
The pacing of Eidelons was totally off imo. I mean, c'mon acquiring your summon in chapter 9 out of 13 altogether is waaaay to late.
But most of those issues were already addressed in various reviews.
It's fine for one play-through, just to watch all those beautiful cut-scenes (Sera/Snow at the beach during dusk, anyone?).
As an RPG FFXIII failed for me, as an action-adventure with beautiful cut-scenes it delivered.
RPGs for me are lots about re-playability and decisions/alternatives. That aspect's totally missing in FFXIII.

With so many great games lately I just haven't felt compelled to pick it up, especially at the price point now. With it warranting probably 1 playthrough at the most, I dont care for trophies.

I dunno, it actually might be interesting. In a totally non-Final Fantasy sort of way.

Regarding the name: if I remember correctly, versus takes place in a parallel universe to XIII and is kinda supposed to be its opposite.
They share the same religion though, you know fal cie, l'cie etc.
Hence the name.

STOP ABANDONING YOUR TRUE FANS!!
the westerners only care about military 1st person shooters (and by westerners i mean ADD kids that only know COD as being the greatest game). the people that care about final fantasy are the true fans.

But yeah, the screens look awesome, even though they aren't HD.
Damn it, I can't wait for it to come out, just as long as they keep it PS3 exclusive worldwide.
So psyched for this game, even though I know I shouldn't be psyched for anything, since high expectations usually lead to let downs in the end.

i stand by what i said b4, FF13 sucked.
the story was not good for me at all.
the battle system wasn't bad, i just wish the game didn't hold my hand for 23 hours.
it didn't get good until the end and by then i was only playing the side quests and forgot what the entire story was about

It's just a little bit underwhelming, I expected way more of the first FF entry of this generation.
There's hardly any replay value at all and game-play is very repetitive. FFXIII's almost a dungeon-crawler in HD ^^.
Still, story is good, characters are interesting and well designed and some summon animations are awesome.
Personally I'd rate it 8/10 if asked and replay value somewhere between 3 and 4 ;)
Now all my high expectations simply have shifted to FFvXIII.

Sorry ppl. I played FF13 most of the day today and I wondered why did they make me waste 35 hrs of my time just to get to the real game?!
I'm holding my breath on this one. FF13vs has to be the FF the fans want. Even if its an action RPG.

FFVXIII info, the last guardian info + hopefully a SOC and ICO collection and to top it off a new PSP model!
i really hope sony will release a new handheld this year, i mean ninty have a more powerful system than them.
ninty for christs sake!
when a freaking phone is more powerful than a dedicated gaming device thats the last sign you seriously need to upgrade!
the 3DS is supposedly powerful enough to run the RE5 engine!
the psp could not even run the RE4 engine let alone RE5!!!!!!!

When Nomura speaks about FF, it totally contradicts the aspects of FFXIII that was taken over by Wada. Heck, didn't Wada say it was "difficult" and "time-consuming" to make HD cities (for FFVII reference) and yet here we are Nomura does the exact opposite. On top of that "Open-world" aspect that has been missing. It is if as all the aspects here is meant to be from FFXIII's vision.
Heck, he DID mention about having more MOVEMENT of space when he was designing FFXIII in the early stages. I guess this confirms that this is going to be an exclusive.

Now Nomura sama as badass as this sounds like - DON'T GIVE IN TO A WESTERN APPROACH! Create it like your team from Advent Children and team from Kingdom Hearts want to create it like.
So in other words...don't listen to your damn CEO: Wada kun down there!
