THQ Reveals Red Faction Arcade And Other Promo Initiatives
THQ was pleased at the warm reception Red Faction: Guerrilla received, and they really want to promote the new title, Red Faction: Armageddon.
According to what the publisher told CVG, they plan to utilize the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live services to generate a buzz for their ambitious project. Said buzz will be created by something called "Red Faction Arcade," which will be available as a digital download "three or four months before Armageddon. It's not a bad idea, especially for those who missed out on Guerrilla last year, a game that turned out to be one of the best action/adventure experiences of 2010. Said THQ boss Danny Bilson:
"There's going to be a Red Faction Arcade game that ships about three or four months before Armageddon. What's interesting is that we will sell it to the fans, it will have content you can download that is TV show-related, it will build up to the new game and also we can use it to drive pre-orders, too; we can give codes and aspects of it, we can give the whole thing away."
TV-related download content? Cool. Armageddon returns to the franchise's roots, so-to-speak, by diving back underground after being able to parade around the surface of Mars in Guerrilla. Unsurprisingly, a "greater evil" lurks beneath, and you'll have more to deal with than pissed-off government guys. In Arcade, it's simpler; Bilson describes it as a title with "multi-faceted mini games," and it's a strategy that will apply to other THQ projects, including Saints Row:
"You'll see it on Red Faction, you'll see it on Saint's Row and a couple of others. Not only that, we have a comic book coming on it as well. And in December we'll announce the Saint's Row situation, which is the biggest trans-media play anyone has ever done."
THQ is definitely trying to push the envelope these days, aren't they? Just one question- will any of those "multi-faceted mini-games" for Saints Row include Tera Patrick?

Everything just felt very stiff, melee was too slow to be useful and the guns felt inaccurate and weak.
I tried it for a while right after it came out and I haven't played it since then, so I don't remember everything, but I remember hating the controls and how the character felt when I played him.

I guess the SyFy Channel is making a tie-in movie to coincide with the launching of the nest game. Those things are usually pretty low budget and, well, bad, but I get a kick out of them.
