FF Versus XIII Scenario, Character Designs Complete

Last week, we heard all about the detailed interview in Famitsu that shed more light on Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Now, it's the other major Japanese gaming publication's turn, Dengeki: according to Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura, the game's scenario is fully complete, which means the story and script are all done. Furthermore, the character design process is also finished and because of that, Nomura adds that FF fans will be able to feast their eyes on the completed characters some time soon. Oh, and if you didn't already know, the clothes the characters in the game wear were actually designed by Japanese manufacturer Roen, which is kinda cool. As we get closer and closer to the Tokyo Game Show this September, we're starting to get more and more convinced that Final Fantasy Versus XIII might finally receive the massive unveiling we've been waiting for since late last year. Although the official reveal hasn't exactly happened yet, you can piece together a good amount of info if you look around; we just don't have the gameplay footage we've been craving.

Our current poll asks you what you think of the game thus far, and well over half of you who have voted say you expect it to be good. Here's hoping!

Riku994,
So no other game in the universe held as much a thrill for you in the last 4 years?

Man, all I can say wow, just wow.

Basically. I love the look of it, and I've been pining for a new KH-style game, preferably KH but this works too, on consoles that I can truly enjoy, and this just seems to be right up my alley. Don't get me wrong, I've really looked forward to titles like GoW3, Uncharted 2, and the likes, but nothing has held the hype like FFv13.

There has definitely been a lot of people for a couple years now looking more forward to FFvXIII than FFXIII. Sometimes for no other reason than the look and darkness of the character portrayed in FFvXIII. You have to admit, there is definitely a group of people who would appreciate his look over Lightnings.

I, personally, was unbiased and just loved the FF series. I don't know what that means NOWadays, but w/e... I already vented about it in my review... lol

It was the first teaser of Versus XIII back in 2006 that got me interested with it more than any other game.

It's just the music, and the introduction of him sitting on the chair until he decides to walk out at the end. Puts a chill down your spine.

Then some pics were shown and uploaded by a random person hyarr: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iR6zXI283M

Any news of this mystical game will only garner more interest. I mean it has so far: old school world maps, post-modern / post-industrial setting, the "darker" rusty tone it'll apparently have since VI & VII...I have faith in this title.

OK, I had just skimmed your post & took it differently than intended I guess.
But I gotta ya now,LOL

I'm like a kid with a $1000 bill in a penny candy store, I want em all & anticipate every single game out there, but then after trying them, some are just destined to let me down(like MW2's damned too short SP campaign.)

Wait, after all this time you are telling me all that is done is the character designs and the facking script? That's facking IT? Holy facking sh*t! The thing should be almost done by now not just getting started. Jesus facking Christopher what is taking so facking long?

Hope not. I wonder how far they actually are in modeling the worlds and characters in the game. It sounds to me the designs and scripts just got done, which I thought should've been done awhile ago.

Well, to be fair, they didn't really say they "just" got done, just "done." Hope the "done" was months ago, cause I really want them to get started on the game's mechanics so we can see some gameplay soon at least.

thats what I was thinking, how could they show those cinematic video's if the characters hadn't even been done? Did the just drop in joe the sword guy in there to show scenery? Is the guy in the video not a character? What is up with this announcement?

@ World

I'm on the same page as you. I can't believe it has taken so long to complete the character design and story. Isn't this the first thing that gets done in the process of starting ANYTHING?
Now I understand what S-E was talking about when they said it would take a ridiculous amount of time to remake FFVII if this is how long it takes to make FFvXIII.

...you do understand that the characters all have their individual outfits that are tailored specifically for each, designed by a real clothing designer from Japan, right? Also, I would assume that since they showed off some screen shots of gameplay in gamer magazines would mean that everything has been finished to a point where it was playable, and the fact that Tetsuya Nomura even said in interviews that they were still polishing up everything from what was seen in the screenshots that they allowed to be released, so the character design thing could even mean they were done polishing everything up. Also, with the scenario part, they had said earlier this year that they had everything done and just needed to piece all the parts together, like a puzzle, which means the scenario is pieced together to the point where you wont hit a dead end before the end of the game. I've been keeping track very closely and keeping myself read up on things. They mean that they're done with the stuff that they needed to get done with. All there is now is finding any bugs that they may have missed and correcting them before the deadline that they may have already assigned, or may still be discussing. I have high hopes for this game, especially after the failure that is FFXIII.

FFXIV is the MMO, unrelated to the XIII universe. Hope that helps clear things up. And somewhere out there in vaporware-land is supposed to be FFXIII Agito being devved for the PSP.

They've got their eyes set more on Third Birthday right now, said it's of higher priority. I like that they're putting 3rd Birthday before Agito because that means they get done with 3rd burthday and then start working on the really GOOD game (not that 3rd birthday is bad, lol)

I'm assuming all those cut scences will be in the game. Maybe what he means is that he is truly done the script and character designs, you know editing and touch ups. That's most likely it, and if you saw the scans for vs13 I think thry got the battle system down too.

I personally like that. They dodge media mumbo jumbo while they get the job done effectivly, and then we end up with a game that isn't dry and saturated because they were more interested in advertising it instead of making it. Doesn't that sound like a good deal? People are looking at this post and thinking "Hmm, they haven't done 'squat'.", but something tells me it's much further than what people are expecting.

When they say it like this it sounds like it'll take several more years to complete.
Oh well, I don't mind the wait as long as it'll be as good as I'm hoping it to be and as long as it'll stay PS3 exclusive.
They might fill up two dual layer blu rays, well by the time they're ready to put it on a disc, way bigger blu rays will be on the market for them to put it on.

I think they can already expand a SL to something around 30 GB, thus DL should yield over 60 GB of storage with no upgrades necessary.

Very nice, you just made my day Ben.
It's rather obvious now, that there will be an official unveiling at TGS. Unfortunately we won't know whether it's still exclusive as there wouldn't be a 360 release in Japan anyways.

But honestly, I can't imagine SE to change the game's structure for 360 compatibility this late in development.
MS won't dish out money for a port this time, I'm sure.
They need to promote Kinekt and produce their new 360 s.

The lack of any relevant exclusivity deals at E3 kinda reassures me of that.

After all Nomura is still in charge of the project and though Wada's the boss I can't imagine them coming to an agreement regarding a 360 port.

FFvXIII is the game I've been waiting for since I got my PS3, I won't lose hope it'll deliver as one of PS3's exclusive stand-out titles.

Yea I know, officially FFXIII was delayed because of a 360 port and said port was decided on very late in development blah blah.

I still think SE planned that from the very beginning and they invented the official story to seem less like greedy pricks.

Either way, it doesn't matter.
FFXIII turned out quite decent but it did not meet my expectations and I'd hardly call it an RPG at all.

FFvXIII looks way more polished and really like an RPG with each bit of info released.

Sure, it's easy not to trust SE on this one, but I assume they can actually redeem themselves with FFvXIII.

I hate it. I hate FF 13. I hate how all the characters except Fang and Lightning are all whiny crybabies. I hate how if the party leader dies its game over even when your other party members know how to revive people. I hate those little refrigerators in hotel rooms that contain the most expensive cheap liquor the entire world. I also hate how bread is square but bologna is round.

wait, what was the question?

Did you stop to think maybe the story would be very deep and complex? or maybe they had to do a few rewrites? and as for the characters, i've been dabbling in 3D modeling and it is very delicate and very very time consuming. I dislike SE as much as the next guy but atleast show some respect for the process.
