inFamous 2 Gameplay: The More Powerful Hero

Okay, this rocks. It rocks hard.

In case you missed it, the video here is the 3-minute gameplay trailer that debuted on GameTrailers TV last night; it features a chase scene and several features we had heard about, but never actually seen. The entire segment is just plain bad-ass and we want inFamous 2 even more now (if that's even possible). The chase starts with Cole whipping the tar out of a few baddies with his new tool - the slow-mo of the scene is very Woo-like - and then he has to chase down a car, where we get to see those familiar platforming mechanics with the extra oomph Sucker Punch talked about...

See? He can glide like before but now he can boost forward while gliding. He can shimmy up pipes but now he can boost upwards faster. He can clamber along pipes on the side of buildings but with the help of his new energy leash, he can zip right along. Then there's what appears to be a back-flip dodge skill and oh yes, a couple totally awesome powers, the last of which sends an entire street into chaos and takes down a helicopter.

Yeah. Just gimme.

Indeed the game looks awesome. Though it says something all on its own about the new look that people keep saying the game appears to so awesome that the new character look is becoming such a non-issue.

Just saying Sucker Punch that the new more Justin Beaver like Cole was not a good choice. Just hoping the game is going to be so amazing that we really don't pay attention... to the main character.

Agreed. After seeing that, Sucker Punch is totally forgiven for changing Cole's look. It looks like they've listened to everything us gamers complained about the game(though there wasn't much to complain about). Character animations when talking/moving is much smoother, the action looks alot more fierce than the first, they sped him up so that when gliding on power lines and soaring through the air travels you faster, and the tesla fork thingy looks awesome. And did you see that tornado? 2010 can't go by fast enough now!

Yep, And what I find so amazing is this is from a early build of the game yet It looks so polished already. I think I remember reading they stated at E3 that the game is only about 7% completed. I feel that my mind is going to literally be blown out of my skull when the final game comes out.

I call it the Uncharted 2 effect.

Definitely taken up a notch from the last game. Graphics look great for an open world game. As close to Uncharted as you can get with the size of the game being as big as it is.

That's exactly what I thought during that scene. Like when the truck chases Drake down the alley. Or one of the many other scenes like that one.

It's definitely not a bad thing to be "Uncharted-esque" though!

and as I said before I know everybody hates the new cole scheme but maybe he will fit the story better, and due to all the other awesome things inFamous2 is giving fans and gamers alike in this title, well I'm pretty sure people will stop complaining once they start playing :)

All I have to say is if I hear any complaints about the way he looks, or sounds now I will officially slap you right in the FACE! You will have rightfully deserved it, Cole is still a bad ass!

This game looks absolutely amazing! I was very surprised and loved the first, but this, this is masterpiece status! WOW! That was a ride!

Ya can't slap me in the face all ya like but I'll still maintain that the new Cole is a douche.
Even if the gameplay is amped up, which I'll agree that it certainly is, doesn't change the fact that he's gone from the ordinary, joe soap, it could be you with super hero powers, courier guy, to this un-relatible, stereotyped version of what a 'cool' movie hero might look like, captain of the football team, no longer the underdog, jock.
He really is terrible and although the gameplay looks fantastic, one of the main elements that made the first game so cool i.e. him being the underdog, has just been destroyed.
And the people who complain about it have every right to complain about it.

Even with the change why change his voice. I mean ill be staring at his back most of the time so the black douche hair wont be too bad to deal with but his icy cool voice was what made cole cole in my opinion.

You know I get it, I really do. And the whole thing I said was a joke, so no one has to get all serious.

I think it was dumb of sucker punch to do what they did as well. I do. But Look at it as a new super hero.

Last thing I have to say is, I guarantee both of you and many other people who complain about it, are still going to buy it! So you may as well not complain about it, cus its obviously irrelevant to your purchasing decision.

If by chance you pass on this game because of this decision, again you will be slapped. That would just be a dumb decision. One I dont think would be respectable.

Noones getting serious my friend, you have your opinion and we have ours and it's all good natured banter.
And just for being a good sport, I'm giving you a thumbs up!
It does seem silly to pass on a game because of one particular element, it's just that that one particular element was imo, the biggest draw alongside the gameplay of the first game.
I'll wait and see what reviews it pulls in before I get this.

Once again Sucker Punch delivers. I wasn't very fond of Infamous 1 but I still acknowledge it as a great game. This however, looks amazing! I can't wait until 2011.

I don't understand how someone could hate on cole using a metal tuning fork as a capacitor ( to store electricity). What would hurt these creatures more, an electrified punch or a electrified metal tuning fork that acts as a boomstick like in the video?

It looks good. I'm glad it doesn't come out till next year cause it could use some polish on it.
I can't wait to play with his new weapons and powers. Seems like it would be easier to smash people around with an electrified rod then anything else. And lighting tornado? Damn it looks great!
But I still don't like his voice or the new look. They have yet to sell it to me. I want the old Cole. The one who fought the battles from the first. They one who had to see the people he cared for die. This guy seems too happy after that and for whats to come.
Also, does he loose his arm this game? Hmm?

This is why I own a PS3. For an experience you wont find anywhere else. inFamous2! WTF! Coles new look will require either some explanation or some getting used to but what can be done. We all know its Cole no matter what.

Wow. That was sweet and it explains why Cole needs the 'tuning fork', vampire roaches need killing (First Sons, agents for the Beast?). And having a pocket lightning tornado is handy and awesome too. Just hope he still has the large lightning bolt, my favorite power from the first game.

Very amazing footage. Can't wait for this game. Though it does kinda suck for GTTV since this trailer was leaked before they could show it. Would have been great for them if they were the first ever to show off such incredible gameplay footage of this game.

Video was AMAZING! No denying it, day 1 purchase, will pre-order any special edition they throw at me for any cost. I know I am going to love this game so so much.

I can understand a change in look, I mean maybe he just grew out his hair, but can someone explain to me why he sounds like the doberman with the broken collar from UP?

I forgive them, I really do, but it's going to be hard not to laugh hysterically every time he talks, because it will remind of the first time you hear that dog talk.

Great vid, if Empire City was what we call chaotic, then this city will be hell.

And as for the new Cole, I like this one better, problem is, like everyone else, this is not how Cole sounded like and looked like originally.

This is sorta like in a movie where the actor of the previous film can't join in the sequel so the director had to get another actor.

His voice is forgettable, to me it was bland and soulless. There wasn't a lot of ummph there. It kind of fit the role, but at the same time he went through a lot. I would think there would be a lot more passion in it. As Aaron said, it was widely critiscized. I think the problem is Sucker Punch made something great, and Changed it up a little. I think people are having a problem with this change because they fell in love with the character.

It does suck they went and changed Cole. But obviously they knew they had to do something, otherwise they wouldnt have.

That is one hell of an awesome trailer! I immediately posted that on my Facebook wall so that my other gamer friends would see it. I told them that whoever does not get excited with that gameplay video deserve to get hit and electrocuted with Cole's cattle prod. LOL

Anyway, I couldn't wait to play this game. This is how to excite gamers with games! Show us actual gameplay footage yet keeping a lot of other awesome things to experience once the game comes out. I am so glad that (arguably) the best games of this console generation are on the PS3. Way to go Sony! Now, give us an RPG that would kick as much ass as this and Uncharted! :-)

We have to be patient for the title to be perfect. I would rather have a candidate for the Game of the Decade than get an extremely good action game(like inFamous which was outstanding but not perfect).
