In-Depth Singularity Developer Diary At Raven's Blog

Maybe you think I'm a little tapped in the head for giving Singularity a very good score. But hey, I'm not the only one.

While I don't quite share GI's bold claim that Raven's latest effort is "one of 2010's most memorable games," I certainly believe the title is well worth playing. And if you're at all interested in behind-the-scenes details; if you're a would-be designer or if you simply enjoy such information, you should check out Raven's blog, which is updated with a complete developer diary. There, you will find great inside info on the likes of various development topics for Singularity, including Alternate Reality Weapon Designs, Artificial Intelligence Systems, Age-able Effects Creation, Environmental Concepts, Creating Multiplayer Maps, and The World of Katorga-12.

"Singularity is an original property conceived at Raven by a veteran, guerilla prototyping team, and brought to life by the entire studio. Much iteration of design and gameplay was involved, and there were many challenges faced involving the concepts of time travel, time manipulation, and alternate timelines. On paper things sound great, but when put into the context of gameplay, some of these time mechanics become more than the sum of their parts. Ultimately, by sticking to the original core idea of Singularity as a moody, intriguing story about time and cold war technologies gone awry, we stayed faithful to the vision of what Singularity is. We hope you enjoy this inside look at the creation of Singularity and the mysterious island of Katorga 12."

I'll be playing it again when I'm done updating tonight. No, I won't be listing the game among the elite of the generation (or even of 2010, which has already seen God of War III, Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy XIII, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Red Dead Redemption), but I will always defend Singularity against the skeptics. Perhaps this inside look, along with our review, will convince you to give it a try.

That's ok. A game doesn't have to land in the elite pile for it to be a fun time.

this is by far this years best FPS!
besides bioshock 2 but thats really not a FPS its more of a i dunno action shooting game or something.

im really enjoying the level design and enemy variety in singularity.
im sick of shooters KZ2 prime example that have 10 different enemy classes but they all act the same.
what is the point of going through the effort designing and animating new characters if there just going to act and behave the same way the others are?
thats the best part of singularity, your constantly switching and changing how you take on your enemies.
some enemies are best taken out by a shotgun to the face.
others you need to stand back and take them from a distance because there too strong to take up close.

unlike KZ2, where every character behaves exactly the same as the preious character.
just cover, shoot, dodge grenade, rinse repeat!
BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
