No Prior MGS Knowledge Required To Enjoy Rising
It's just more evidence that Metal Gear Solid: Rising is designed to bring in new fans rather than target the long-time followers of the franchise.
If you've never had the patience for the stealth aspect of the standard MGS titles, you might be intrigued by the fast hack 'n slash action that will be on full display in Rising. However, you might also be a little leery about the storyline; these games have always boasted insanely in-depth plot lines and because Raiden is the main character, you might think you'll be lost when playing Rising. Nah, don't worry about it. According to a GamePro interview with Rising director Mineshi Kimura and creative producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, the gamer will need no previous MGS knowledge to enjoy the new ambitious title. Kimura "insists that this title is about Raiden and Raiden alone," so you needn't concern yourself with much of the franchise's deep history. The bottom line is that Rising is a new breed of MGS; a game that should theoretically appeal to those who weren't necessarily interested in Kojima's masterful series before.
The veteran fans are none too happy about this but then again, it seems to be the way of the Japanese industry these days: in order to contend against the rising ('cough') West, they've decided to refine their approach.

I actually just had a really good idea. Imagine if alongside the main game they have a sideshow alley type thing. In it you fight all sorts of enemies, only instead of playing like the main game, it plays like Heavy Rain. Pushing certain button slashes certain parts of the enemy off, and at the same time you have dodge prompts and needing to move as well. I think that'd be cool.
Peace.
