Havok 4.5 Ready, Designed For PS3

Havoc has officially launched Havok 4.5, the latest and greatest version of their animation and physics toolset for developers. Specifically designed around the PS3, this update features full optimization for the PS3 and its powerful Cell processor, and it should be able to handle Havok instructions between five and ten times faster than the older version.

"Havok 4.5's ability to allow developers to massively scale game content will make it possible to develop even more compelling, realistic and complex worlds that harness the full power of new generation architectures," said Havok's David O'Meara.

Havok's emphasis remains firmly centered on "realistic worlds," but the engine should have a significant impact on even the "unrealistic" fantasy-style games. It's all about crafting objects, such as clothing, in a way consistent with real-life physics. How does this thing respond when I brush against it, or when something else hits it? Ultimately, we want an authentic sense of cohesion and true-to-life interaction, and hopefully, Havoc 4.5 will go a long way towards accomplishing that goal.
