Square-Enix Mystery Title To Be Revealed Soon?

It's odd. It's true that Square-Enix is in our doghouse right now but we're still excited to hear about "mystery reveals."

Blame it on the nostalgia and the undying hope that S-E will finally impress and excite its long-time fans. But we've been hearing about some secret title that Square-Enix did not announce at E3, and apparently will surprise the hell out of all those who think they can correctly guess the project. Much of this hype has been generated by a few Tweets from Square-Enix employee Sonia Im and now, it seems the mystery game will soon be revealed.

"OMW to @1UP to talk RPG stuffs w/ @gamespite Finally revealing what THAT game I've been teasing 4 a year is-Hope it lives up to expectations"

We'd try to take a stab at predicting the announcement but maybe that's bad luck. Maybe if we do, it'll be just another game for the DS that we couldn't possibly care less about, or a game that in no way says "thank you" to the scores of lifelong Square followers. We're not even going to mention the possibility of Final Fantasy VII HD... Damnit. Guess that ain't gonna happen. Well, Im and 1Up had better deliver the goods.

Don't expect that rotten core of a website that is 1up to have any real scoops about Square-Enix's latest game. I have very little respect for that site. Sam Kennedy's empire consists of conceited bloggers who spend all day talking about how great they are, filthy-mouthed posters, little snots commenting on news stories and the unemployed 43 year-old Xbot who thinks he's the Carl Luce of cyberspace.

I'll bet Sonia Im was talking to Tina Sanchez, the worthless 1up Community Manager who can't take it that she's sub-standard at her job.

Actually EGM does exist again. It was re bought by the original founder and rebooted. It's actually a very quality magazine now. The format and articles have been great so far in the first 2 issues. The also do 4 online interactive issues each month.

I just looked in the magazine and it says you can at least get subscriptions in Canada. Not sure on newstand though.

Meh, Square has done little to no effort in trying to appeal to the people that actually used to care for them. So I doubt this announcement will be anything worth paying attention to. Our only hope now is Level 5.

It's going to BE!!!... an FPS version of FFXIII! damn... or maybe Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII? That would be a bit of a shocker, but it's not really big enough for this position is it... unless that's the true RPG for the FFXIII Crystalis project... that might kick a little ass.

The game is probably an xbox exclusive and features you playing as cloud in an all new hack n slash adventure game featuring levels playing as Barret in FPS mode.

This is the road they have set themselves on and this road ends in the slow, painful, death of SE.

nono... FPS co-op with Barret and Vincent. Dialogue will consist of much Vincent eye rolling with some muttering about his sins, while Barret constantly talks about how much of a cold, hard-a$$, gimme tha creeps, kinda guy Vincent is, but I still love 'em type of talking. If you get a big enough killstreak, Cid will fly in on the Sierra or Highwind to bomb the crap out of guys.

Ben this is off topic, but it has to do with SE.

I noticed that the computer version of Final Fantasy XIV is being released september 2010, but the ps3 version isn't scheduled to be released until march 2011. What the heck is the reasoning behind this?

I don't want to start playing a year after everyone else.

why so soon? if they were going to announce something why did they not do it at E3?
anyway, i wish developers would stop making announcements of announcements of announcements its getting really annoying!
because every single time i end up disappointed.
like sony announced there revealing 2 new games on the friday before E3, one turned out to be KZ3 and the other was something else we already knew about.

or the PSM3 reveal for dead space 2, was a prequel to the game a PSN and XBL title.
if they were to just announce the stupid thing, than maybe people would be excited for it, but if your expecting it than its always a let down.
if some one tells you your getting a car for your B day your going to dream of something really cool, no matter how cool it is unless your extremely lucky your going to be disappointed!
like my mate Jeff, he was told hes getting a new car for his 21st which was today, and guess what he got?

no, but that does not stop me from being disappointed because im hoping against hope that it will be something ill be excited about.

and no KZ2 was not that disappointing that im not looking forward to KZ3, im not looking forward to KZ3 because its looking like KZ2 with jetpacks!
there was so many things GG should of fixed, they need to add new enemy classes, open up the environments and such.
it does not look like they have done that though, it looks like they slapped on jetpacks, changed the environments to involve snow and thats it.
ill definetley be getting it the day it releases, weather i enjoy it, think it lives up to its hype or take it back the minute ive finished it is another story.

I've said it before, the Edios/SE could be a juggernaut. With the lore or most of Edios' titles and the storytelling abilities and graphics of SE, they could an unstoppable force with some truly great games. But i highly doubt they will do any thing even remotely spectacular.

I feel this way as well. My first squaresoft game was Final Fantasy 3 for snes(FF 6) and I was hooked on jrpgs sinse. That was in 4th grade...

Now all they have done is dissapoint.

Well, all I can say on this is that I will wait, and see, because right now Square Enix is on the list of game publishers for which I have extreme skepticism. I will literally have to "see it, before I believe it" with regard to everything from SE.

My skepticism was not helped by SE complaining and whining about technical issues preventing them from releasing FFXIV in 2010 on PS3. Frankly, what I think happened was they they could not come to an agreement with Microsoft for the 360. Microsoft threw such a hissy fit, that SE agreed to delay the launch of the PS3 version. That way Microsoft's "other platform" - Windows PC - could have a clear run at dominating the FFXIV field for 6 months. Funny how they have said it's a six month delay, almost as if it was a timed exclusive.

Yeah, I call BS on Square Enix and their excuse of technical issues for delaying FFXIV on PS3.

Amazing how quickly one company can go from loved to loathed in one generation that's not even complete.

I showed my wife the article about Wada's xenophobia. She came the same conclusion.

Wada is an intolerant bigot who has his head so far up his rear, he can't see hes destroying the company he's supposed to be growing.

I would say this could be considered SE's last chance amongst a variety of gamers. But it being an RPG I kinda doubt it will be headed to the DS but this rumor is too early to start the guessing game. If the game is just around the corner we mine as well just wait and see.

DS and PSP are the preeminent RPG platforms in Japan. More RPGs are released on those two systems than on any other. When an RPG is announced, unles it's announced specifically as an HD experience, there is every chance it's a handheld game.

I feel as though I should be excited but with Wada's last little stunt, I'm not quite buying it. For all we know, it could just be some DLC. SE could be just that big of a tease. What SE doesn't understand is that they've turned a lot of people against them and they don't even realize it. They don't care enough to look for it, though. People will still buy their titles, they'll still get their paychecks, and they'll still hold themselves as high and mighty.

It may sound impossible, but SE needs a slap to the face. Something to wake them from their fantasy land of lies and conjured realities. Could that be Level 5's job? Cause currently, Level 5 is answering my prayers. Level 5 is a dev that knows what people want and knows what they're doing. Unlike SE who left their long time fans in the dust for the pursuit of money.

I'm not particularly excited for this "big mystery title" from SE. But, that doesn't mean I won't check it out at least. Let's hope for the best.

I don't know that SE could even win us all back honestly. Even if by some meracle they did make a 'real' jrpg exclusive to the PS3, would everyone instantly jump back on their ship? Seeing how they've treated us this generation, who's to say they wouldn't betray us again?

Dude, I know you were typing quickly, but there's a typo in your message (it might be on purpose, not sure) that is kind of ironic.

You're saying that they can't make a real JRPG and said "Even if by some meracle they did make a 'real' jrpg exclusive to the PS3"

I'm almost certain you mean to type miracle, not 'meracle', but there's a funny connection in there. 'Meracle' is a character in Star Ocean 4 a JRPG published by SE as a timed exclusive on the 360, as you may know, the PS3 received a better version by far with more, and exclusive to PS3, content. So, it's just funny to me that you think that if by some 'meracle' they release a JRPG on PS3....

Sorry, I know, it's just me, I have a strange mind sometimes...

I dont know about you but i think it s about time that we see another Final Fantasy tactic on a console .Maybe they will be better making an srpg .If they at least keep the core gameplay i don t see how they can miss .
