Insomniac: Vanquish "Plays Like Gears Of War On Crack"

Obviously, this is one of those games that needs to be seen in person before one forms a solidified opinion.

Platinum's Vanquish looks promising enough, although we doubt many of you have it on your "must-buy" lists at this point in time. Then again, although we do have some E3 2010 gameplay footage below, it might be far more impressive in person...just ask the guys from Insomniac. Members of the same team that brought you the esteemed Resistance and Ratchet and Clank franchises were really, really impressed with what they saw of Vanquish at E3. Just look at some of the overwhelming praise found at their blog:

Giac Veltri, Tools Programmer:

"My favorite game at E3 was Vanquish. First, I had no idea it even existed. Second, it looked awesome. Third, the demo was a lot of fun - action-packed and full of spectacle. Plus, it's in the sci-fi shooter genre, which is something that I'm always into. I also liked taking over one of the walking mechs (although I sucked at actually using it)."

Paul Featherstone, Community Specialist:

"A brilliant technical showpiece from the creator of the original Resident Evil and the director of Resident Evil 4 – my favorite game of all time. It plays like Gears of War on crack and looks absolutely gorgeous. Platinum is knocking it out of the park after Bayonetta – hopefully we will see more frequent high-quality releases from them in the next few years."

Well then...this game might just be better than anyone expects. We've always been interested, not only because we have faith in the developers but also because it really does look like a bad-ass title. But at the same time, we really didn't expect some of the top industry talent to make comments like this. Anybody else more pumped now?

As soon as I saw this game, I decided to get it on day one, an absolute gem, Bayonetta was awesome and this looks 10X better than gears ( I really love gears). A bit saddened of the lack of multiplayer, this game would have been awesome to play online, haven't played a shooter since GeOW 2 so I can't wait :)

I'm kinda glad there's no multiplayer. We don't have enough great single player experiences this gen. Not adding multiplayer allowed the team to focus soley on the story and single player campaign which is always good especially when someone like Mikami is at the helm.

if uncharted can have great single player with no compromises and a good multiplayer, id like to see the same with other games

Games like Uncharted 2 a dime a dozen. Far and few in between.

Besides, Uncharted 2's multiplayer launched with a lot of problems. Its taken Naughty Dog some time and a lot of patch work to get it right.

The phrase "a dime a dozen" is used for things that there are a lot of, and is usually reserved for low quality things that are easy to acquire such as " chicks like her are a dime a dozen, I'm looking for something good looking". So please don't use this phrase for uncharted 2 because it most certainly is not a dime a dozen

@ Jawknee

aaronisbla beat me to it, if anyone could imitate what naughty dog did with Uncharted it's those guys, I really more than enjoyed all of their games and they didn't give us any crappy game yet ( Bayonetta was awesome on 360, it was bad on ps3 because it was a port) they were young but apparently they learned from their mistake.

BTWarrior, i know i just realized i used the phrase incorrectly. (>.<) bagh..

When i was typing it when thinking "aren't a dime a dozen." Somehow the "aren't" slipped past my finger tips.

Need more coffee.

It's ok though TEG. I deserved it. LOL!

I disagree. The Nintendo 3ds has more power than the PS3 and the 360. The 3DS SHOULD have been the lead platform for this game. Then the PS3 and 360 should have recieved a port.

Once again, us gamers are getting the shaft.

Sounds great. But what is Giac Veltri's job as a "tools programer" anyway?

Gears on Crack, in deed. Will keep a look out on this.

They're obviously focusing on gameplay mechanics that would be over-the-top and awesome for single-player, but just wouldn't work for competitive, online multiplayer, so I understand the lack thereof, but what about coop?

It's not that I am an mp-fiend, it's just that for certain kinds of games, mp does add longevity and value to the product. I could understand how some games like Fallout can do without, but for the price we pay, and especially for action-adventure shooters, it's pretty much a standard of the industry these days. I'm still interested, though.

I don't care for gears, so gears on crack doesn't really do anything for me. I'm still not won over, I'll wait to see the reviews, at best it a run and gun shooter with bland design.

Maybe instead of running and gunning I guess we should call this one a butt sliding and gunning.

I didn't care for Gears either but Mikami is a better game creator then ClffyB so I'm willing to give it a chance.

It wasn't just any butt-sliding. It was turbo butt-sliding, and it looked cool.

Endorsement by Insomniac... This just went up on my interest list. I'm still wondering how long the single player is going to be. Hopefully the lack of multiplayer persuades them to make it at least eighteen hours. It's possible, but not likely methinks.
Peace.

@ Lawless. Yeah thats my main thing too. I want it long like Resistance 1 and 2. Multiplayer is cool to have but lack of it isn't going to make or break me. It could always be released as dlc later anyway. I need decent story and tons of weapons and lots of hours of gameplay. If this has little replay value and is GOW3 length I'll spend 10 bucks and rent it.

"Gears of Crack"
It's the Gears game PS3 users have been waiting for (now with more crack and less mp) cause Quantum Theory wasn't gonna do it.

i wouldve bought this day 1 but the news about not having any multiplayer kinda left it in the "i'll get it when the price drops a lot" list. Its nothing against the game. i just need to get the most of my money right now and a single player campaign only game just doesnt make the cut. especially since its a new ip.

That looked like something I could totally get into. At the very least it will hold me until Resistance 3. That slide thing he/she was doing was pretty cool and I miss old school boss battles that take skill and that didn't look like a walk in the park. I need to know more about it of course but looks solid. I'll wait for the official reviews from you guys though since you are usually dead on.

Looks fun, but I don't think this one will make the list. I have a ton of other games to think about coming up and as far as a futuristic/sci-fi shooter goes, well I'll settle for dead space2 which I know isn't the same thing but it's close enough in my eyes.
