Apache: Air Assault Taking Flight Soon
Flight games are few and far between these days but do you know what's even rarer? Flight games featuring helicopters.
Today, Activision Publishing has announced that Apache: Air Assault will launch this fall for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In development at Gaijin Entertainment, they're calling this a "modern combat flight simulation game" where players will take control of a variety of lethal Apache attack helicopters. Your mission is to thwart terrorist attacks by utilizing the "cutting-edge military weaponry" you will have at your disposal, and you'll be tested continually throughout 16 multi-stage missions. You'll perform both air and ground strike operations off the coast of Africa, visit the treacherous mountains of the Middle East, and brave the steamy jungles of Central America, and each environment is faithfully recreated via "high resolution map data from real-world satellite photography." Said David Oxford of Activision:
"No games on next-gen consoles have been dedicated to helicopter combat simulation, but that is about to change this fall. Apache: Air Assault offers fun for diehard military enthusiasts and flight sim fans as well as gamers who just want to blow stuff up."
So although they're going for authenticity and realism, players can tailor the game to their tastes. If simulation isn't really you thing, you can simply select Arcade Mode for more accessible controls; the Realistic Mode will definitely take some practice and precision. There's a local Co-op Campaign Mode along with online competitive multiplayer featuring Team Deathmatch, Ground Attack, Capture the LZ and Ground Strike. We'll be on the lookout for some early footage, too.

Aero Elite Combat Academy?
"How many flight games featuring helicopters can you name? Well, there's at least one. Apache: Air Assault will take to the skies some time this fall."
Aero Elite Combat Academy, again?
If anything I would ay Aero Elite beat every game out there given the fact you get fly more just than just a AH-64 Longbow, but also a AH-1S Cobra and OH-6D. What's even better is the fact you customize the arms/ordnance to your liking

What relevance does a PS2 title from 2003 that achieved mixed reviews have in a discussion about flight sim games that include helicopters, 7 years later, running on completely different console hardware?
Dude, come on, this is about one step away from trolling.

but yea, there's hardly any helicopter simulators out there... lots of games feature the helicopter like the GTA series but, none are strictly just helicopter simulators...
i would be more interested in this if it were a PSN title but, i am not going to pay full price for a helicopter simulator...

Also with it only being a flight sim, they tend to be short, with very little to them other than flying the chopper over and over.
Now I know that's what some ppl want and that's fine, I'm just pointing out that these types of games don't sell all that well and most ppl who do buy them, at least wait for a price drop.
With all that in mind, it's still nice to see some variety, too bad it's coming from craptivision tho. I'd file this one under, wait and see with skepticism.

though, just one thing i request.
PLEASE! NO FREAKING BABYSITTING MISSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
thats one thing that really pissed me off with HAWX, all you do is protect ground troupes its so freaking annoying!!!!!!!!!
i play a flight combat game, to blow sh*t out of the sky, not to have to constantly fly above tanks and continuously drop bombs on them.
flying around in circles dropping bombs = tedious and extremely frustrating!
flying around blowing suckers out of the sky = fun!

making a game challenging does not mean it has to be so freaking infuriating!
they could throw 100 fighter jets at you at one given time, that would make it challenging.
having to protect a tank from the sky, forcing me to fly above drop bombs, turn around fly back drop bombs rinse and repeat 100 times is not challenging, its a pain in the a$$!

I never even heard of this title, thanks Ben!!
EDIT - I sure hope co-op has one player as the pilot, and the other as the gunner. That would be awesome!!
