Confirmed: Gravity Crash Devs Working On New Oddworld
The rumors that a new Oddworld game is in the works have spread fast and far, but now we know for sure: such a project definitely exists.
It's easy to spot our ol' buddy Abe over at the site for Gravity Crash developers, Just Add Water, and they have confirmed that Oddworld will soon return. According to a press release, they say that "it's with a huge amount of pride that we can announce that for the past 12 months, we have been working extremely closely with the fantastic people at Oddworld Inhabitants." They don't really give us any specific details - we're not even sure if we're looking at a downloadable title for the PSN or a full game for the PS3 - but at least we know it's on the way. And besides, they say we'll get more info in the "coming weeks," so we're perfectly wiling to wait. Said Just Add Water Managing Director Stewart Gilray:
"To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic. It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this,” Gilray continued. “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us."
In all honesty, I hope they bring back more of the adventure/puzzle elements we had with the first few titles. When it went to the Xbox, it turned into a 3D action/platformer and really, I don't think it was anywhere near as impressive. The original title for the PlayStation is still one of the most respected games of that console's library, and there's a darn good reason for that.

One of the games which really affected me.
To say that it's a hard game would be an understatement!
That game was sick...plain sick
But fun as well...
Great platforming, great environments! man.... if only more devs dared making platforming games again.
Donkey Kong Country Returns will hands down be a GOTY contender for me.
Hope they keep this new Oddworld game mostly 2D in gameplay.

If you didn't save enough of them then BAM your stuck with the bad ending and there was nothing you could do about it, feelings and hard work be damned.
In saying that though that was back in the days when people wouldn't complain too vocally when a game was to hard (eg. Demon Souls) or that "I can totally see the drop in texture resolution!11!!!" (eg. MGS4).
Games were games and developers didn't have to feel guilty if they didn't hold your hand through-out it.
I feel sorry for the kids who these days don't get to experience that weird feeling you used to get when you finally crushed Ultima, or saved all the stubborn guys in the Abe games.
It was called a sense of accomplishment.
I miss those days ;(

Imagine playing Mario but actually having to solve puzzles to move forward.
Not just puzzles but also strategizing(that's not a word?...) to get around your enemy.
You can't really kill your enemies in this game, not traditionally anyway. You have to set traps for them, or lure them so you can sneak past them in the dark, etc.
What a beautiful game...
If you love platforming, this is one of a kind!
The game's actually available on the PSN store if I'm right.

Oddworld was both an odd & weird(but great) platformer, and the dialog & some of the actions were hilarious.

The first one is very good.
dodging falling carcasses that shake the screen, hearing that split second..(was it freeze or creep?? I could never figurwe it out.ha! :D)before running away. if you were on a different platform to your enemy you could use mind control and go shoot the others. so much fun!! :)
the second one gave you the ability to control explosive farts..and as a nine year old at the time i played it I realized it was like the coolest thing ever.
Saving all your fellow aliens was so much fun, especially in the 2nd one where you had to apologize to some of them and get them to help you in other parts. Overall, a class game that I'd highly recomend to anyone who likes a challenge and silly humour.
