Capom Preparing Retro Homage, Mega Man Universe

Capcom knows how to bring the classics back. They did it with Mega Man 9 back in 2008 and now, they're set to do it again.

The new retro revival is called Mega Man Universe, a title that was trademarked back in April and will be coming to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace. A teaser video for the new game shows the Blue Bomber taking on Dr. Wily's baddies in multiple art presentations, but obviously, Capcom is going a bit further. Mega Man will actually be able to turn into versions of other historic Capcom characters, like Ryu from Street Fighter and Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins. And what else might they include? The video shows brief clips of other old-school classics, like 1942, Final Fight, Darkstalkers and Bionic Commando. Said Mega Man producer Kenji Inafune:

"This is something that you have never seen before, and we have included some hints into this teaser trailer. If you take a look closely, you will be able to imagine a lot of different possibilities. So try and use your imagination, and you may figure out what makes this game special."

But beneath all the extra stuff - use your imagination to figure out what it all might be - Capcom promises a "core experience fans want," which isn't much of a surprise. This is one publisher that has typically remained faithful to its old incarnations and long-time fans, so we can't wait to see what they bring us in Mega Man Universe.

Nice, I was never too into Megaman, I was too late to really get into the series =( But doing a 'reboot' or just in general bring it all back in newer form might definitely get me to buy it

Edit: Also did anyone else get a clay kind of feel towards the characters designs (like ryu) ?
When Ryu did the Hadoken it reminded me of Celebrity Deathmatch for a moment, haha

Mega Man X in the first Mega Man X could get the Hoduken. Also a fire punch in Mega Man X2. Both secret boss insta-killers that are incredibly tough to get/find.

Capcom has always thrown in those little fan easter eggs.

While I'm done with Megaman, I love the retro games for the most part. But they should come in both pixelated form and HD form. Konami should do so with the old Castlevanias and Contras in fact.

Yeah like Monkey Island. Fancy new graphics one second, hit select, and you're back to old school. Would be great if Capcom did that.

This is a wait and see for me. Capcom has been such a let down this generation.

I love MegaMan so i may end up getting this but who knows. It could be a crapsandwhich.

SSF4 begs to differ, not to mention the much anticipated MvC3. I understand however if you're talking about the Capcom that turned Resident Evil into an action shooter, I kinda miss the old RE style games.

I agree that SSFIV is great. I also really liked Tatsunoko vs Capcom but two good games on 5 years is pretty sad. I will likely be getting Marvel vs Capcom 3 but 3 good games in 6 years is a little pathetic.

They absolutely destroyed Resident Evil 5. Without Mikami, not sure they can ever rejuvenate that franchise.

Is is just me or are MegaMan 9 way harder then the previous games. I can run through just about every MegaMan in a couple of hours. i couldn't even make a dent in 9. I haven't bought 10 yet because I worried it will be too difficult like 9.

9 was pretty hard, but I found 10 to be easier. Both still great fun.

i only managed to beat one boss in 9 before getting too frustrated to continue. Maybe I'm just getting old. haha

The trailer was pretty cool, had that retro feel to it as well. Mega Man Universe, whatever it might be, will be something Mega Man fans will at least be looking forward to see and own. When Capcom finally decides to go next-gen with Mega Man will be the day it really takes a step forward. Rock on Rockman.

I enjoyed the slapstick at the end. Kinda reminded me of Capcom's track record.

Why can't Capcom bring Mega Man x back? The retro MM games where nice but a new MMX game would make them gold.

Well I never really got into mega man, but it seems that all capcom has done this generation is bring back the classics, afraid to do something original?

they also did it with bionic commando rearmed.
that was such a enjoyable games, one of the best PSN games ive ever downloaded!
i wish more PSN games would have that retro feel, the old classic 8 bit graphics, quirky sound effects, 2D platforming.
now thats how you make a proper PSN game!

im still yet to download and try mega man 10, on my download list waiting till the end of the month so i can download it.

though, capcom are not known for keeping to a series, and giving their fans what they want.
there known for screwing up their famous series, selling out to bring in new audiences and completely changing the style of the game ala $E, ubisoft.
need i remind you of DMC4 or RE5?
remove dante from DMC4, remove the title DMC and you would not know its a DMC game!
remove chris and the other well known characters, remove the title resident evil and you would not know its a RE game!

That is actual the artistic rendition of Mega Man from the notoriously "So bad, its awesome!" North American Mega Man 1 Box Art.
