Canada Doesn't Get Cheaper PS3
Well, Canada had it for a little while, then lost it.
Initially, the country expected a PS3 price break with the announcement of the 60GB PS3 price tag: $649 Canadian ($549 USD), which translates to a $50 savings from the U.S. SRP. Unfortunately, it now seems the price has been raised back to $699 Canadian ($592), which means your savings just dropped to $7.
But there's more to this little maneuver, as GameSpot hinted at this past week. Sony apparently told them-
"Although the suggested retail price (SRP) of the PlayStation 3 in Canada has not changed, some Canadian retailers have chosen to increase their retail price as a result of the weaker Canadian dollar. This increase is solely at the discretion of the retailer, as Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has not issued a price increase."
Ah, so this isn't a Sony price hike, it's a Canada price hike! Unfortunately, this may not go over well with you consumers up north, but then again, how often do you really get price cuts on stuff? C'mon, you should've known the PS3 would cost just about the same as it would in the U.S. Let's just hope the stores don't choose to raise it any higher...
