Mafia II's Playboy Gals To Enjoy Uncensored Exposure

For games like Mafia II, it's all about creating an authentic, believable environment in which to immerse oneself.

Therefore, in order to produce such an atmosphere, loaded with all the seediness of an underground organized crime unit, one must stay true to the formula. ...this is just a flowery way of saying that censorship won't be tolerated. According to a GamerZines hands-on session with 2K's upcoming sandbox title, the Playboy magazines featured in the game are entirely uncensored. No annoying black bars. No stupid fuzzy parts that make you squint. No "head-shot only" pictures. Perhaps you might be surprised but hey, this isn't 1990. Gaming has changed a lot and at this point, if it's in a movie, there's every chance it will be in a piece of interactive software, too. We knew that 2K had partnered with the men's entertainment monolith in order to give the game a realistic flair; one that is both titillating and, of course, faithfully historical. The idea that wise guys never kept a Playboy laying around 'cuz they're good church-going folk is...well, a little absurd.

Mafia II is slated to arrive on August 27. You can pick up next month's Playboy on...you know, I'm really not going to look that up.

Ha! That dosen't persuade me to get the game as I already planned on getting it but it does add to the environment and certainly could be considered a plus.

As much as I love me some nekkid ladies, I don't think I will be getting this one. Mafia underwhelmed me and I am not to big on the era in the first place.

That being said I may pick it up if it turns out to be a killer game like RDR. Dammit, I hate Westerns and that whole genre of film and game and culture but that game is just so, so good.

I gotta say, that if anyone thinks they need to pay $60 for these 'boobies', they need a new ISP. The 'net is awash with 'boobies'. So although it's nice to have the 'realism' of mafia guys with Playboy issues laying around that you can browse, I really hope no one is taking that feature as a reason to buy the game. Good lord, if it's 'boobies' you want, turn off google safe search and have at it.

Personally, I won't be getting this game. As much as I like the female form, this feature doesn't make it any more attractive to me.

So that's what they need to get the edge on similar type games? is this gonna make 'em better than GTA?

Honestly, when I first got into GTA4's clubs, it felt odd. Not that I go to those places but something just hits a bad note for me...

Well, don't expect anything explicit. Back in 1953-55, Playboy didn't show very much. If this game is true to the era, the centerfolds have to be like the ones in that era. I had better not see 2010 type centerfolds in a game set in the 50's.

I think the best version of the game will be on the PC. It's a PC series. PC based games never work out quite as well on the console and vice versa. Look at how poor the first Mafia was on the PS2 and Xbox. Look at Fallout 3 on the PS3.

If it's any good, I'll look into it but I'm still going through both RDR and Gay Tony and those are console-first entities. I have a feeling Mafia II will play more like a PC-game and I'm not going to be down with that.

Of course, those losers from Reviews On The Run will probably review the Xbox 360 version of Mafia II since they are major Xbots who have been paid off.

I'm glad to see somebody stand up & say f*ck censorship.
I just hope the overall game is going to be good.

Unfortunately, there's probably going to be another self-appointed safety-nanny backlash over it.

But it's not their business to control us!
They should direct their lame out-cry's to those parents who are, either, ignorant of the game's content, a irresponsible parent, those who have no control over their kids & so their kids walk all over them, or the worst of all, those parents that just don't just don't give a rat's a$$.

For myself, (I just see their bitchin' & moanin' as "FREE" publicity for the game)

I thought this was a dumb feature the first time that I heard about it, it's not going to improve the game in any way.

I liked the first mafia and I have hope for this one, but I'll be waiting until the reviews are out and unless they are above par, I'll be waiting for a price drop.

This is probably one of my only problems with 'Mafia II.'
I wouldn't mind if they decided on their own to add Playboy in to help vitalize the atmosphere, but the way it's done really bugs me.
The first 'Mafia' was a 'pure' experience, with little in the way of side quests or extra features, but even those few elements were mixed in with the narrative. And the developers have stated that 'Mafia II' is meant to be the same way, yet these magazines seem to be the new oysters, pigeons, feathers, etc. You collect them from around the world, and they don't enhance the experience at all, merely allowing the player to ogle women who are now very old (if not dead).

And each developer that is asked about the feature seems to have a party line to justify it's existence.
This whole thing reeks of publishers pushing game elements onto their developers.

My whining aside, I've been looking forward to 'Mafia II' for several years and I can't wait to pick up my Collector's Edition at Best Buy a month from now.
