EA Sports Announces A "Darker, Grittier" Fight Night
The Fight Night franchise has always claimed to boast boxing simulators and while that philosophy hasn't changed, EA now wants to focus on the grittier side of the sport.
Enter Fight Night Champion, recently announced by EA Sports and intended for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. EA's Andrew Wilson has guaranteed fans a look at the dark side of boxing; i.e., a "grittier and darker game" with action that "truly conveys the brutality of the sport." The first screenshot is right here; it depicts champ Manny Pacquiao with a swollen eye and a fair amount of blood. The developers will offer fans a "refined physics-based animation system" and a new "Full Spectrum Punch Control" mechanic. And while we all know the game will boast an online mode of some kind, EA Sports only spoke about the new direction for the franchise and the single-player campaign. Currently in the works by EA Canada - the same team that gave us Fight Night Round 4 - this new title won't be ready until next year, but it's bound to garner plenty of attention in 2010. The sport in question may have suffered a big drop in popularity over the years but EA's boxing video games have done quite well.
...maybe because this is one of the few sports that seems a lot more fun to play in a virtual environment.

EA had a patch put in for FNR4 to allow button combos because of so many kids whining about how much they sucked. The problem was that now all of the button mashers had a fighting chance against the better players who learned that using the sticks was an awesome feature.

To the untrained eye, it's just a couple of men throwing their hands at each other. To the one that understands, it's just as much a science as it is a sport and a skill. If you want to know how to appreciate the skill, go in the ring with safety gear against a person of similar stature and build as yourself, but who also has a year or so of training. You'll be amazed.

Fact is, I'll never enjoy MMA as much as I enjoy a well balanced boxing match. It's more of what I want - fists to abdomens and faces - and there's always plenty of it.
The only reason I personally think boxing has been driven so underground is due to the commercialized rules with challengers. When the sport takes it upon itself to pay both boxers a set amount of money, despite winning or losing, a hungry boxer-driven urge to win is lost.
Regardless, Boxing classics are always a win-win for more! Back when almost all the punch-drunk men that flogged the sport wore their pride through someones temple.

So now, every time I use my controller, I curse FN cause my grip keeps reminding me of it, as it flops around.
And I haven't bought the game yet because I figured my controller would've needed a standing 8-count way before before the final bell was rung.
Other than that, I thought the demo was cool.

Using the stick takes getting used to, but I have come to love it.

Putting the computer on easy and setting the rounds to 12 and beating the hell out of them, but not quite knocking them out to damage their face as much as possible before knocking them out in the last round with 10 seconds left.
Sadistic right? Get over it...

I hope they don't change the control layout too much with the analogs..They are fine how they are...using the buttons are for those too lazy to learn how to play the game how it was meant to be played.
