NBA 2K11's Jordan Mode: Become A Part Of History
The fact that Michael Jordan will be returning to video games in NBA 2K11 is unassailably cool to begin with. But a whole mode dedicated to the legend...? Even cooler.
Jordan will be the cover athlete for 2K Sports' basketball effort this year, which of course means the Bulls superstar and possibly the greatest player of all time will be playable in the game. But obviously, the number 23 tribute goes well beyond that. NBA 2K11 will actually feature a Jordan Mode, which will feature 10 specific games from Jordan's playing career; in each game, you must meet a certain statistical goal...the goal Jordan hit in reality. "[Players] will get a chance to feel how hard it was to actually achieve what he did," said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. So among the amazing accomplishments are:
1990 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers. Jordan scored a career high 69 points in an 117-113 overtime win.
1992 NBA Finals. In Game 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers, Jordan scored 35 points in the first half, draining a record six 3-pointers.
1997 NBA Finals. Battling a stomach virus, Jordan scored 38 points in a pivotal Game 5 victory against the Utah Jazz.
...wouldn't it be funny if your stats took a hit because of that stomach virus, and it became harder to dominate? Anyway, this is just a sample of the 10 games and 10 challenges required to fully complete Jordan Mode in the game. It's a great new feature and really opens the door for a ton of possibilities concerning other stars and even other sports. Who wants to try to step to the plate with an injured Kirk Gibson and hit a home run off the best reliever in baseball in the World Series?

He is the very reason for me to have played basketball for 18 years, started from seeing him in 1992 Dream Team 1. He is not just simply playing basketball and score on the court -- every movement of him, every posture of him -- is perfect and presents sheer beauty. He is THE ARTIST on the basketball court and in the air. No one has inspired so many people around world to play basketball or play any kinda of sport as the way he did.
Now he will be the reason again for me to buy this NBA 2K11. ( i stopped buying basketball game since NBA Street Vol 2 on PS2, cuz I think all the games were pretty much the same pretty much after )

Jordan was without a doubt the best player in the NBA from the mid 1980s through the early 1990s ! His 6 rings to some extent can attest to that but lets not forget that while he won 6 rings, the competition level was down a bit during those years !
Magic and Bird were nearing the end of their dominance as were their teams the Lakers and Celtics ! The Pistons with Isaiah Thomas won 2 rings back to back but they do started declining when Jordan and the Bulls started their run !
To be fair of all the guys who won rings during Jordan's run, Isaiah probably did it without another super star player on his team ! Bird had McHale, Parrish, D.J., Pete Maravich and Bill Walton although injuries had taken their toll on Maravich and Walton by that time !
Magic had the pleasure of teaming with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar arguably the greatest center who ever played, James Worthy, Michael Cooper and Byron Scott !
Jordan played with Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Ron Harper and a host of mostly "role players" !
Isaiah Thomas, arguably the greatest point guard in NBA history, played with one true super star Dennis Rodman and a host of again "role players" !
Unlike some people too young to remember, I actually had the pleasure of watching Julius "Dr. J" Erving play and much like Jordan, Erving could score at will and completely dominate a game but he didn't have to score 40, 50 or 60 points because he played alongside Moses Malone, Bobby Jones (best 6th man ever in the NBA period), George McGinnis, Darryl Dawkins, Maurice Cheeks, Lloyd "All World" Free, and Andrew Toney !
The 76ers unfortunately could never get over the hump against the likes of the Celtics and Lakers but unlike the Bulls, the 76ers had real competition ! The NBA was at its peak from the mid 1970s through the mid 1980s !
