inFamous 2 Hero To "Look More Like" Original Cole
We love how inFamous 2 looks. That game is gonna rock.
But like many others, we weren't the biggest fans of Cole's cosmetic overhaul. Appearing like a skater dude who suddenly got super powers didn't go over well with many fans of the original, and although Sucker Punch tried to explain the reasoning behind the change, it seems the negative feedback has proved overwhelming. According to what the team said at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, they're changing Cole back! He won't be exactly as he was in the first game, but he'll certainly look "more like he did," which is just fine by us. The new screens and footage that debuted at the event apparently show a very different - and in our eyes, more fitting - protagonist, complete with more hair, tattoos and a few other assets that should prove popular with the fans. So while it's not the old Cole, this new character certainly resembles the original hero more than that punk we've seen recently, and that proves Sucker Punch's loyalty and responsiveness to those who really adored the first title. The mark of a respectable company!
It just goes to show that if enough people complain, and the complaints appear to be both widespread and numerous, good things can happen. Hey, the game wasn't done yet; changing the appearance of the main character was still possible, and you helped make that happen.

I didn't care too much about the transformation, but I did think the new cole looked a bit too much like a brother of Nathan Drake. It's good to have characters that are easy to differentiate between.

Plus we still don't know how he will turn out, but going by the new trailer, he looks closer to the model in my avatar than the one in the E3 reveal, if you haven't noticed, they are different

The days of manly men like Clint Eastwood seem to be lost on the younger generations. If you don't believe me, just look at the Hollywood movies of 20 years or so ago. All the heros were dirty, bearded, scruffy men, now they look like they just had a make over at a gay salon in San Francisco.

People can be whatever they want to be and they can like whatever they want to like no matter what age they are. If you liked the new Cole then good for you.

Why are you so intense all the time? Why is everything you don't agree with "crap" or "nonsense". Your correct, to each his own but the same goes for our opinions. Why do you get so offended when you read something you don't agree with? Does the internet anonymity give you this superiorty complex or are this bitter in real life?
Relax. You'll live longer.

Obvious and factual observations shouldn't be "offensive;" only children should be crying over that. Nothing about what I said meant he wasn't allowed to like what he liked; it was an OBSERVATION.

None of the people i know in that age bracket would agree that they favor metrosexual like lead character or super hero. I think what Alienage meant by his statement is why make such a blanket statement about a group of people when in the end it can't be proven?
Ben its your educated opinion ( a good one i might add, depending on which group of people you are targeting ), but its not 100% fact. Sure different age groups like things a certain way ( this much i agree with ) but you can't say a younger crowd would favor a skater like character simply because they are young. It's just another stereotype.

It maybe an observation, but its only a small sampling. You can't take what you have observed from a small selection and apply it towards most others in this case and many other stereotypes. Its silly to even attempt it imo.
Thats like someone saying they observed some female drivers who aren't that great at driving therefore most other females suck at driving. His observation may be correct, the females he has some may be horrible drivers, but its not applicable to females as a whole. This is a way in which stereotypes are born, lets not go that route

The younger group would've likely found new Cole's look to be more appealing than older people. That's a fact. Just get over it.

Just saying it doesn't make it fact, sorry it just doesn't work that way in this case. Out of the many people that complained about his new look, are you seriously suggesting that the majority were older and only a select few that were 20 and under were just as upset about it?
Almost no one liked the change, younger or not, Age had nothing to do with it and i wish people would stop trying to connect it. Majority of gamers who played the 1st just couldn't see this new guy replacing the old cole.
Not sure how psychology would prove the stereotype that younger people would choose new cole over old (or would identify with a metrosexual in general, it's pretty damn laughable ), but you keep believing you are 100% correct, I'll keep on saying it's just your opinion and it can't be proven. Stereotype is a stereotype

have you been living under a rock for the last 20 years? Just because you know a few people who don't fall into the general rule doesn't make the observations inaccurate.
Whats laughable is your arrogance.

Its not right to classify people or judge based on no evidence. You can say what you want about magazines, or whatever, but the fact is and its obvious with a few posts here that even younger people didn't like the new Cole. If one person does and he just happens to be under 20 that doesn't make your argument legit. Or vise/versa, you guys are arguing over non sense. I can't even believed I joined in.

SOME people in our age bracket have this thing of generalizing certain things, as you have proven in your posts.
As i said above, you are taking a small sampling and making a blanket statement over a rather large group of people, a stereotype, a bad one at that.
Its just as silly as saying all whites love death metal music or all blacks love rap music. You may be able find quite a few that fit this category, but it would be faulty logic to say all or even a majority of a certain group is included. Its damn near impossible to prove
The group in question "20 year olds and a tad bit younger" gamers can be broken into many categories and still contain rather large numbers, a main category is race, as well as upbringing. This is why you can't make such a broad statement as it wouldn't fit.

There is nothing wrong with making generalizations based on your perceptions as long as one understands there is always exceptions. Of course not every white loves metal/rock or every black loved rap/hiphop. but i can tell you as a musician, and having traveled the country, meeting all kinds of people, visiting many different shows of all genres of music. there wasn't a whole lot of blacks at rock concerts. Out of the many hip hop shows I've been to, there wasn't a whole lot of whites either. So am i not allowed to make a generalization based on my experience? Of course i am. There's nothing wrong with it. There's nothing bigoted or racist about it. just as there no maliciousness meant in my generalization about the current culture and the younger people who grew up with it. Some stereotypes are true and only true believers in political correctness will deny that.
My only point was that times have changed and what pop culture considers a Man is wildly different then it used to be and it's only natural that people adopt those perceptions based on the popular culture at the time. For some reason you either can't see that or are unwilling to acknowledge it.

Dude, you called me arrogant, yet you display it more so than any of my post. Pot, Kettle, Black maybe? I'd say thats resorting to name calling.
I stated where i stand on the issue, and you know damn well that blanket statement can't be proven true, not even by a majority. There's too many people in the young 20 and slightly younger crowd to just make wide sweeping generalizations like that, especially considering how that group can be broken up into sub groups.
You say i was being condescending towards Ben ( which i wasn't btw )yet you failed to call him out when he tells someone to 'just get over it' since i don't agree with him. I guess since it aligns with your opinion it doesn't count? With all due respect, sometimes you can be full of of it.
I like this site just as much as the next person, but that doesn't mean i have to blindly agree with every thing the main writer on this site has to say, especially in this case that shows a blatant stereotype. It doesn't affect me since im 29 and don't belong to the 20 and under crowd, im just calling out a stereotype that i see a lot.
You can't prove that blanket statement that younger folks would pick new cole over old cole especially considering that almost every one around generally disliked the new cole. If so, you would have done so by now. Instead you skate around the issue.
Some stereotypes are true? What world do you live in? The called stereotypes for a reason. Please, show me a stereotype thats 100% true. I mean some damn good evidence, not this " its in the magazines" stuff you tend to talk about. If it was true, it wouldn't be called a stereotype, political correctness aside. But let me guess 'There's always the exceptions' right?

I never said i could prove all under 20's would like the new Cole. What i said was there has been a change in the perception of what men are in popular culture(FACT)and that it is likely(OPINION)that the people who grew up during those times would adopt those perceptions because that's what they have grown up with. There is evidence to back up my opinion as well in all avenues of the current culture, you just refuse to acknowledge it. You seem to want to live in the world where no one should makes judgments or assertions. Well I'm sorry, but your the one not living in reality if that's the case.
I don't know how many times i can explain it. I think i have made myself clear enough.

Anyway this is great! More companies need to really care 'bout their fanbase. They're the ones who will recommend this game to friends, and they're also the ones who will most likely stick with them through and through.
They'll get new fans from exposure (marketing, word of mouth, reviews, etc.) But most importantly from QUALITY. Uncharted 2 proves this.

Who knows maybe the devs took a glance at some of our comments! In a way the people that complained about Cole's new character ended up playing a part in the creation of the game. In a way this almost always happens with games, but this time it was a little more significant considering Sucker Punch was already well into the game dev with the new character.
this is good news! made my day.

A bit off topic but is anyone else a bit turned off by the weapon (even a tiny little bit)? I mean personally I like the hand to hand combat better, but I would have preferred like a staff or nunchaku or something over this thing. Something a bit more brutal is what I mean, I think this weapon fits the new Cole better than the old one.
Still day one purchase ofcourse, but just saying.

the new cole looked too much like a pretty boy, you know the type of people who spend more time doing their hair and getting ready than they do going out!
the TT drivers if you will.
cole is suppose to be the every day slum, the guy who got thrown super powers.
hes suppose to kick ass, but its going to be hard to do that if your worried about messing up your hair!
ooooo, careful i spent 3 hours sculpting that!
really cant wait for this, as long as the gameplay is the same as the original its already won GOTY!

honestly im starting to think if i called one of yous a d*ck head yous would instantly sprint for the mirror!
i was using the term pretty boy and the example of him being so obsessed with his hair as a example, it means hes so obsessed with his look, his fashion hed be too busy to be a superhero.
go watch top gear, watch their review of the Audi TT than maybe, just maybe you will understand what the term pretty boy means.
