Sony Introduces Logo Licensing Program For PlayStation

Looks like we might be seeing "PlayStation" in other places outside our living rooms and entertainment centers.

Today, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has announced the PlayStation "Logo Licensing Program," which will allow a "variety of lifestyle products from apparel to everyday items" to boast the well-known logo. Licensees who enter into an agreement with SCE through this new program will be able to design their product using the PlayStation logo or its "iconic marks." SCE will provide manufacturers with an "Official Licensed Product logo" that will be used on product packages, proving that particular product has been approved. The Official Licensing Program has been in place since June of 2009 for PlayStation peripherals and accessories, meaning the logo could show up on "more than 123 items from 45 licensees" who teamed up with SCE. Obviously, this new announcement will allow the PlayStation brand to expand beyond those boundaries and become more of a daily fixture in our lives. Well, why not? Gaming is big business and advertising and licensing must go along with big business; it's basically inevitable.

We're just wondering what type of products we might see sporting the PlayStation logo. They even mention housewares as a possibility, so it oughta be interesting to see where "PS" lands in the future.

Hey this is kinda neat, it's marketing in a new way. Or an old way. I dunno, haven't heard of any other company doing this, but what do I know?
Anyways, it's interesting to see what the opposi- er.. competition, would do. (other than false advertising, I mean)

Bets on how long it takes for T-shirts and caps with old skool PlayStaion logos, PSN logos and/or Home logos to appear?

Hehe, how about negative 5-6 years? :) I already have a cap with the old-school PS logo (the one on the PS1 loading screen when you first turn it on), got it a long time ago. (5-6 years ago)

I got a PS logo CD sleeve book with the Playstation magazine from 1998. I still use it for CDs in my car.

This beats the hell out of Microsoft's Macy's strategy. Who goes to Macy's to shop for Xboxes (or electronics for that matter) anyway?

The same people that pay $250 for 2 fluid ounces of blended water, alcohol and Mouse (they think it's moose...) urine, claiming it's the best scent since the last time they spent $200 on 1.8 fluid ounces of blended water, alcohol and musk ox (beef cattle) urine.

I just cant believe that this is actually "news" and the new PS3 update hasn't even been mentioned. I love Sony product, aside from their shotty car audio, enough to buy anything to help support them, but come on, a couch, or table, or plates. Hell make a toilet, i wont buy that. they are pulling the microsoft thing. M$ made software, then made shotty hardware... now you will beable to buy anything with any logo... not falling into the trap, unless there is something that actually pertains to what the PlayStation name sake is... entertainment!

Ok, I would buy the PS shirts and hats, maybe a PS coffee mug and pen, a PS branded Sony Bravia and viao. Maybe even a brand new Honda CR-Z with the ^OX[] on it somewhere, but no couch, table, chair, tooth paste (id assume itd taste like pastic) or bedding. I just think that when they say "housewares" i think of everything but cothing and entertainment items...

How about a chocolate DS3 so that when the kiddies get angry during gameplay, they bite it instead of throwing their controller?

This is pretty cool. Once I think Sony thought of it all they do this. These guys have been innovative and creative every since Nintendo turned down their CD-ROM drive. Here ye, here ye! Long Live Sony I say! Hope they continue to expand.

I currently have a PlayStation baseball cap, skull cap, and a long sleeve vented shirt. Those were acquired in the early 2000's. Since then, PlayStation apparel has dropped off the face of the earth. With the exception of my LBP shirt, it's about time to see more PlayStation branded items coming back in the market place.

And when my toast pops up ready, I want to hear Kevin Butler's voice yelling out some hilarious gems of Playstation whit.

Sony did all this PS logo branding many moons ago.
I remember all us old-time Playstation Underground members being able to buy all kinds of "PS Underground" branded goodies.

Damn, I miss that original PS magazine, & as a PS Underground member, I eagerly awaited my mailbox every 3 months for that special PSU mag(which was actually a 2-disc set of playable demos, & with a same-sized enclosed booklet too).
