SOCOM 4 Delayed Until 2011

Although it was initially scheduled to be part of Sony's impressive holiday lineup, SOCOM fans will now have to wait a bit longer.

We had heard a few days ago that SOCOM 4 might be pushed into 2011 but we didn't bother to toss up an article until we heard something official. Well, the update over at the SOCOM blog is pretty darn official. As you can see, Zipper Interactive Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has confirmed that SOCOM 4 is now scheduled to launch in 2011. But hey, the team doesn't want to release a sub-par effort:

"While we're certainly aware that you've been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don't want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we're going to use our extra time to do just that."

We're not about to condemn a development team for a perfectionist mentality; for delaying a game so they can get it just right. We do have a little something against continual delays, but this is only delay #1 for the fourth SOCOM, and we're hoping the next release date we receive will be the real deal. Also, remember that SOCOM 4 will support PlayStation Move, so it'll be one of the first shooters to utilize Sony's new motion sensing technology.

Darn, woulda made a kicka$$ Move release title.

But I'm glad to hear that they'd rather spend more time to polish an excellent experience. I respect developers' decisions to do that.

Good things come to those who wait. Just look at Man Furismo Jive.

zipper definently already has my money in there pockets, (i should say sony) but anyways, im glad that zipper is taking the time to improve MAG, and enhance socom 4, thats a double edge sword but pushing it back only makes the wait even better

I think they don't want to make the same mistake the other guys did with the last Socom. So is this a first or third person game?

We salute you Zipper for taking your time to make sure you have a quality product, just don't take too long though. We don't want you to spend 10+ and not give us a product. I am looking at you Nuke Dukem.

Great attitude for a developer to have. I'm never disappointed by a dev wanting to give us a great product.

Now KZ3 might beat socom to the punch with being the first big name shooter out with move support.

I'm not surprised. Zipper is still supporting MAG (recent big DLC) and they're one of the first developers to create a hardcore Move game. That's quite a bit to do at once I think. So no worries from me. :)

You have to prefer developers that take the time that is needed to make the game right than to hit a deadline and release a game with bugs and glitches or lack of polish. I'm sure there are plenty of times when a developer asks for more time (which probably means more money) and they can't get it so they have to release a sub-par offering. Glad that Zipper is getting the time to do it right the first time.

We've all played games that were fundamentally good, but just a little rushed, and said to ourselves "damn, if only they had a few more months this game would have been special, but as it stands, its just a steaming pile of crap that failed to live up to its potential"

Aye, totally agree. SOCOM 4 was my most anticipated game of the second half of this year, and while I'm sad that it won't be coming out when it was originally expected, I'd much rather wait 6 months and have a game that was that much better. Zipper have a great track record, so I reckon it'll be time well spent.

This is why it's great to have Sony as your publisher, rather than, say, Activision.

Well, I guess that gives me a little bit more time to play through my backlog. Oh well, looking forward to another PS3 exclusive that should more than live up to its potential and expectations.
Peace.

FU*K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
big mistake by sony, MASSIVE mistake!
this year all they had to compete with was MoH or COD black ops, pushovers in comparison to who they will have to compete with next year!
THQs unannounced game, home front and Xcom to name a few!
big mistake!
sony has brought this game from a GOTY contender to a lonely bargain bin release!

Hold on: THQ's game and XCOM have not been confirmed to be Move compatible, while this is. That alone could make it far more attractive to the audience than the others.

what does move have to do with this?
plus Xcom is a 360 exclusive.
i was planing on getting the starter kit, but not anymore since theres no worthwhile move titles releasing this year.
maybe ill get one when heroes on the move releases!

You are seriously a huge effing downer all the time dude. And you seem to be misinformed a lot.

Zipper, the developer, decided to delay the game not Sony. They did it not to destroy your fragile little perception of how things should be, but to make a better experience. Does it suck, yes. Is it going to be the downfall of this game because they push it to make it even better, no probably not.

You can stop crying and throwing hissy fits now the world isn't ending any time soon. It's just embarrassing at this point.

Let's hope they have the rifle or gun accessory for the Move by then - so we can do proper aiming.

That hunched over pointing with the Move alone demonstration just looked wrong.

"... we're going to use our extra time to do just that." Sounds to me like the game was rescheduled for business reasons, and they're trying to put a positive spin on it.
