The "Damn, I Know Too Much About This Game!" Games
We all have them. The game(s) that will always have a permanent spot in our minds; those that hold no secrets from us. We know ever last tiny detail about it and nothing surprises us...and we love that.
I think it'd be interesting to see the titles that various gamers have absolutely mastered over the years. Just bear in mind that I'm not necessarily talking about the games you play over and over; I'm talking about the games that, regardless of the question, you can answer it. It could be the most obscure tidbit on the planet, and yet, you know all about it. When you think about it like that, there aren't many games that can occupy a slot on the list, now is there? For me, I always like to think it's one of the Final Fantasy titles, like FFVII, VIII, IX, and X, but in retrospect, I don't know everything there is to know, even if I did almost everything there is to do. I'm sure I might be stumped on a really, really random and obscure question, even if I know the exact process for getting a Gold Chocobo.
That being said, there are at least two games that qualify: Final Fantasy Tactics, my favorite game of all time, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is most certainly in my top 5. My brother is currently playing through the latter and I just recently pointed out the secret rooms that hold things like the Holy Sword and Sword Card, and how you have to fly through the cave as a bat to open the cave with the Jewel Sword, and the Ring of Varda and Crissaegrim... Things few would ever know without checking a FAQ or a map. Then there's FFT; yeah, did you know that only Lv. 98+ Ninjas will ever throw the Chirijiraden in the Deep Dungeon? Or how to get Cloud and open Nelveska Temple? Or how to strip Elmdor bare of all the Genji stuff?
After a good 12 or 13 years of playing both on a relatively frequent basis, I don't think either holds any remaining unknown secrets for me. But what about you? What games do you know everything about?

That being said I think I knew the most about a little game called Galerians. Beat it about 6 times in a row ignoring all my other games. There werent that many secrets but I had the best boss strategies and knew where all the items were hidden.

Altho I'm relatively new to gaming I still know how to beat the original mario in less than 7 minutes, not really that hard once you figure it out, but its fun to say you can beat an entire video game in less than 7 minutes.
@ Ben
I find it cool that FF tactics is your favorite game, mostly because I also love that game so much. Its second only to ff7 for me, but it is darn close.
I however have beaten the ps1 original twice and am on occasion working through my second time of the psp version which allows you to get not only cloud, but also balthier from ff12, which was my favorite character from that particular ff.

Right now I can't imagine a game I could tell you everything about, except maybe the old Marios where I could blast through the game cuz although I played it all the way through, I also discovered every warp zone. :)

My first one was FFIV (FFII as seen on SNES). That was the first one that became my world. Then it was Baldur's Gate II. There wasn't a stone unturned in either of those.
More recently it's Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Yes, some might think they know all there is to know 'bout a fighting game, specially Street Fighter but there's a whole lot of storyline and timelines one has to consider.
Like when people go "Akuma is Ryu's father." No, he's not
Or when people say "Sakura's still a teenager in SFIV." Wrong, she's actually 22/23 in SFIV
Or why there's the "art of nothingness" and the "art of the dark hadou."
---
I also think I know almost everything there is to know 'bout Demon's Souls. I could pretty much answer anything 'bout this game.
I'd say I know a lot 'bout Gran Turismo, and I do. But there are just way too many cars to consider, along with improved physics in every game which all makes it hard to say I know everything there is to know. But I do know a lot 'bout GT.

I love a good challenge.
@SvenMD:
I know that even Kojima has admitted to going back and reviewing story bits he's written, but honestly, I don't think he's as fanatical about the series as some of the fans are.
And you might be surprised by my 'Metal Gear' knowledge. The only things I generally get confused about are the types of weapons/vehicles that certain characters utilize.

You might be surprised at how much information is compiled on the Metal Gear Wiki. A considerable amount has been permanently reinforced in my mind by reading thru it's many pages.
And while I'm less familiar with the 'Metal Gear' titles I didn't mention, the four main ones have I played almost constantly as well as obsessed over since 2000 and to this day.

Nowadays my biggest obsession is Dead Space. I know Isaac Clarke, I know his parents Paul and Octavia, I know how the necromorph infection began on the Ishimura, I know Michael Altman's history and how Unitoligy was founded, and I've even memorized the Unitologist language scrawled in blood all along the halls of the dying planet cracker. I know there's old school games with crazy random places but the rooms in the ceilings and going to the top of a certain room in the second castle using the fire from the bat to break a wall to get a certain sword? I mean come on, most of these things nobody could ever know from a simple play-through.

I was also mastered in the art of Crash Team Racing, Fatal Frame, Sonic 3, SubTerrania and Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition.
The Jurassic Park game lacked any story, it was really just a bunch of levels based on the movie and book. However, it was the most fun I had with any game on the Genesis. I loved it, and I still can fly through that game no problem, I remember where all the weapons were, all the shortcuts... I played that game to death in my pre-teens.

I have never managed to platinum any games unfortunately... I may not be very good at playing them... I do spend quite a bit of time on multi-player shooters... i find it to be "mindless" fun after a heavy days work. For me to complete a Single Player game is quite something, more because of time, and in some cases, difficulty.
I managed to complete CoD3, CoD4 and CoD5... I also completed UC2. I never completed Killzone 2 yet, I found it difficult. I ended up going for the multi-player again. Haven't completed RDR yet, nor Trine, SuperStarDust, WarHawk etc.
I still have some work to do...

i spent a good 20 hours finding every single shard in infamous but do you think i remember where they all are?
same goes for assassins creed 2 and the feathers, or codex pages those things drove me freaking insane!
i guess the closest ive ever been to that would be in the original crash bandicoot.
i can finish every single level with my eyes closed now, and remembered all the passwords to all of the levels!

FFX was way way ahead of it's time back then, yea I know, back when Square was still the bar setter. (I'm using Square cause it feels kinda weird if I use either Square Soft or Enix)
I pretty much done everything in FFX, everyone clearing the sphere grid, all the celestial weapon, all monsters captured(this didn't take as long as I thought it would).
I can't be too bothered to level up all my Blitzball players to max level, all I ever got to was level 60 something. But at the time every other team was just playing catch up to me.
Replayed it over and over again, I think I already spent more than 500 hours on FFX consider I have at least 5 playthrough and each lasted at least 100 hours.(not that I wanna play through 5 times but it's because I lost 2 memory cards and 3 times of playthrough was gone)
Speaking of which, hey Ben, are you guys gonna have a Game of the Decade award this year-end?

Lulu's sigil took me almost 1 hour, my first try ended with less than 10 dodges to go under 15 minutes, my brother was beside me and he was like "WTF??!?!".
As for Dark Yojimbo or all the Dark Aeons, I took the easy way, summon Yojimbo and pay him 1 million gil and hope for the sure-kill technique "Zanmato".
Trust me I actually tried fighting them with my own strength but I find the Dark Aeons overpowered.

The SECOND time I tried to beat the chocobo race to get the Sun Sigil, I did it on like my third try. :D
Khimari's butterfly CRAP, though, I tried for probably an entire afternoon, and the ONE TIME I was about to get it, I ran past the last butterfly on accident and into the next screen, canceling the race.
It's impossible. It's the only ultimate weapon I've never gotten.
But I actually customized a weapon for Khimari that I thought was better anyways. :D

It terms of speed, it's actually pretty quick when you know your commands thoroughly. The only thing that slows it down is that when it's your turn, you always get time stopped to decide what to do.
EDIT: Also, there are 2 different battle schemes. I think I did a PS1 review of Xenogears in the user reviews because I loved that game so much.

You need to mod ur Gilgamesh Card to make some holy water which will make ur party invincible for a few turns.
Although I didn't use it. A simple way to kill Omega (not so simple actually) .
max all of 3 of ur party. then make sure that cerberus is equipped to the designated healer for his triple magic or whatever it was called ( haven't played it in 5 years). then cast aura on all of ur party members and keep on using their limit break, and healing as soon as u get hit. make sure at least 2 of ur party member stays 9999. my party members were Squall for his lion heart limit break, Quistis for her Blue-magic( the one that defends all ) and zell for around the world.
Edit.. make sure they all are death proof and equipped with HP+20....HP+80, Haste the same thing, auto recovery and auto anything is always a plus. hope itt helps
Consider it a Birthday gift, happy birthday

In case you're wondering, I used the "Defend" ability because it makes the user invincible to physical damage, which includes that one move Omega does where he shoots all the light at your characters and it hits them multiple times for millions of points of damage. Can't remember the name, hold on... it's called "Terra Break" and does about 4000 damage per hit, and hits like 15 times to all characters, soooo.... yeah.

Burnout Paradise (I was one of the first Elite, and was recognized as a 'go to' person by Criterion themselves.)
R&C - I've played all of the PS2/PS3 games multiple times (except I still have to complete ACIT and platinum it).
I used to know Doom1 and Doom2 levels so well I could almost run them blindfold.
GT3 and GT4 were games I knew very well, but I was never sure about my tuning abilities. I mean I thought I did a good job. But there's a lot of difference between thought and reality sometimes.
Uncharted 1 & 2 - I have played both through 4 or more times and regularly have fun in multi-player.
Of all the games Burnout Paradise was probably the one I knew best. I was one of the first to 101%, and on the Criterion user forum I was one of half a dozen players that criterion recognized and labeled as community leaders who could offer advice about the ins and outs of the game, and who could help new players though the online challenges. As good as that game was, you can't play it forever though...

My game is Final Fantasy VII. And it's sad what kind of things I know down to the very science of the Jenova project and how it manipulates the body. Now when I say Final Fantasy VII, I mean the entire collection. Every fact and every piece of story.
For example, few people know what the FFVII characters do in Advent Children in remembrance of Aerith. Even though it's staring you in the face.
EDIT: Interesting fact... I share a birthday with Cloud Strife, too!

And this is one reason I dislike WoW, it CANNOT be finished, expansion after expansion, i hate anything that doesn't end, everything HAS TO END, same goes for t.v shows, anime and everything, keep it fresh! ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END :D otherwise its not very good :P

I don't think that too many realize that Squall's father is Laguna, Rinoa's mother was Julia. Laguna and Julia, after never seeing each other again, had their own separate children (Rinoa and Squall) and, in turn, actually end up together in a strange twist of fate.... makes me want to play it again, lol.

*MINOR SPOILER*
Raine is Squall's mother, Laguna's second love. Raine and Laguna adopted Elone after her parents were killed. Squall was born when Laguna left to find Elone, who he considered a daughter. Raine died after birthing Squall. Squall was sent to an orphanage. Elone ended up there with Squall. He called her 'sis' for good reason in the flashbacks. She truly is his sister.

Anyway, I'm having a hard time obtaining the items I need to build my stuff.

Tuesday, August 03, 2010 @ 8:44:28 AM
For Doomtrain, you need a ring (curse ring I think?) available in Esthar. Then you need 6 steel pipes, 6 remedie+'s (note: "Remedy+" not Remedy), and 6 marlboro tenticles. You figure that out by reading those Occult magazines. They give you the clues to how to get doomtrain. That's how I figured it out. 4 magazines... one about the ring, the other 3 about the ingredients. (remember steel pipes in the field and the picture of the wendigo? Guess who you mug the steel pipes from!)
Use Alexander's med lvlup ability to get remedy+, and you can either steal marlboro tenticles from marlboro's or card mod marlboro cards.

I have Squall's speed attribute junctioned with 100 hastes. Plus, I have 40% speed boost from Cerebus GF. Squall is extremely fast now, and I'd like to have a real powerful sword (Lionheart) so I can relentlessly lay down the attacks, ninja-style.
