Itagaki: Devil's Third Won't Be Tear Your Hair Out Hard
Devil's Third has a lot of promise. But Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive guru Tomonobu Itagaki goes a step further...okay, many steps further.
The notorious "bad boy" of the industry told Edge that his new hectic third-person action/shooter will quite possibly be the "best game of all time." Not exactly known for modesty, Itagaki first clarified that Devil's Third wouldn't be frustratingly difficult, as his Ninja Gaiden titles have often been in the past. THQ game testers are helping him to curb his desire to create break-your-controller challenges. He even went so far as to apologize for the final boss in DoA4: "I'll apologize for it. I'm the one who did that, and I'm sorry." He won't back off on NG, though, as he said those titles were intentionally difficult because they were revivals of classic games for "old-school gamers." As for the current project:
"For Devil's Third, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. We've got support from THQ's testing team, and we're going to work really closely with those guys to balance out the game. It's going to be the best game ever."
Yeah, well, we'll see about that last part. By the way, if you have the capability when the game finally reaches us in 2012, you can play the game in 3D on the PlayStation 3. You should be ready to go by then, right? 3D HDTV, glasses and everything? Anyway, it's just good to hear that Itagaki hasn't gone crazy with his new game...not sure we could handle NG-level difficulty in a action extravaganza like that.

I tried NGS2 on master (beat it on normal and most of the co-op missions) and it's nothing but cheap shots. I can handle being spamed with those gun using ninjas (can't remember the name, elites maybe?) from the start. But being spamed by off screen rockets/kuni that take 1/4-1/3 of your health each is to damn cheap to be called a good challenge. If you don't have the level memorised it's only going to be trial and error until you do.
To me cheap difficulty = laziness. When a game has to spam HP killing attacks (exploding kuni, rockets or nades for example) to be hard it can't be called a challenge IMO.

Trust me. The game isn't cheap, nor is it broken. There is a strategic solution to every problem. You just have to be patient enough to figure it out. And it handles very differently from the original. Spam attacks have been reduced, and difficulty in many cases has been increased.

NG is so good, because every other action game is press this button as many times as you can, button mashers intentionally.
NG is not how you press a button, or how many times its WHEN you press a button.
you have to time everything perfectly, otherwise it wont work.
like counter attacks, they wont work if you press the button too early.
thats the whole point, being a ninja is all about Patience and lightning reflexes so of course ninja gaiden is going to enforce that!
thats what makes it such a great game!

it really made you think twice about what you do, and it made your reflexes lightning fast!
i love it when games make you think about what your doing, think should i use a health pack now because im almost dead, or should i wait one more hit so i get that little bit more health risking that maybe that one extra hit could kill me.
its all about sratergy, and thats what made ninja gaiden so much fun!
not to mention its combat system, its by far the best kicking the crap out of DMC, GOW, bayonetta, darksiders and DI!
no action game is better than ninja gaiden, so Itagaki has his work cut out for him!
though, if anyone can beat ninja gaiden its the creator of ninja gaiden!
