Grand Theft Auto V Should Be In...

Being a big fan of the franchise, I've been thinking about the future of GTA. Specifically, where exactly we'll be running amok in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V, which hasn't been unveiled as of yet.

If we look back at the history of the series since GTAIII (when it broke through into elite territory), we see the almost entirely fictional metropolis of Liberty City, a virtual if not wholly faithful recreation of Miami in Vice City, the major cities and vast amount of land out in California (i.e., Los Angeles, San Francisco) in San Andreas, and the surprisingly realistic boroughs of New York City in GTAIV. So I say it's time to go global. I say we need to take advantage of one of the coolest cities in the world, one that is teeming with life, has a very distinct flair, and can go toe-to-toe with any other city in regards to crime, debauchery and fine living from ill-gotten gains...or so I've heard.

That city is Tokyo. Now, the Japanese aren't big fans of GTA - at least, not in comparison to the West - but we could really bring two cultures together in GTAV. In GTAIV, we had Russian immigrants getting their feet wet in NYC; in GTAV, how's about we have some American crime aficionados indulging in absolutely everything Tokyo has to offer? In some ways, I'm picturing a cross between Yakuza and GTA but because we don't want to alienate the Western fanbase, it's probably crucial that we maintain an American focus (i.e., on the characters). It just seems as if the possibilities in Japan's capital are limitless and if Rockstar wanted to expand beyond the boundaries of the city (as they did in San Andreas), they could even include some of the smaller towns and villages outside Tokyo.

Other potentially great cities could be London, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Paris, or even Sydney. I just like the idea of GTA finally breaking the boundaries of the US and setting down roots in a whole new country. Of course, I still want GTA to be GTA...don't change that, Rockstar.

Imagine GTA V In Mexico! Expands through Tijuana & Arizona! I mean isn't DRUGS GUNS & CASH what we want? I mean look at Tijuana you have both Border Patrol & Drug Dealers. I would love to kill Border Patrol!!!! In GTA OFF COURSE...
You can cross the border & risk your life. Then you go to Arizona, LAS VEGAS! & LOS ANGELES CALI should be included too. Man Ooh man, what a dream!

there has been .... WAY too many fucken GTA's in liberty. it's the worst city they've done. it's so grey, dull and boring. I would like them to do an Australia, but then again, GTA is about bagging US.

It's an OK idea. But wont having it in Tokyo be like making it somewhat a Chinatown GTA? London setting would be a breath of fresh air for GTA.

If it was set in London the police wouldnt even bother to try and catch you, and if they did catch you they'd probably just give you a slap on the wrist haha

Good idea, but I would prefer Chicago, since it has ritzy parts as well as slummy parts. No offense, but I didn't see any ritzy parts when I visited Detroit.

Or a Detroit/Chicago hybrid.

Kraygen, I agree with Joburg, South Africa as a location, but there aren't any lions just walking down the street. I feel like i'm in high school again and people are asking me if I rode elephants to school when I was in SA. Yeah, i did, and I also had a zebra, a giraffe, and a friendly lion as pets. *sarcasm*

That is right, there are no wold animals walking freely in the streets. Many people think that is the case before they get to see the place... or live long enough to see the place.

From a violence perspective, Johannesburg work well in a GTA game; considering it is one of the most violent and crime ridden cities in the world... central old Johannesburg that is.

Mexico or Bogota would also be pretty good...

LOL no I didn't think their were wild animals in Johannesburg. I was saying that in GTA san andreas you could leave town and go out into the fields and what not.

I just meant maybe they could stretch the truth a little and make some of the out of town gameplay be out where the wild life roams. Its not like any of the cities from GTA were exactly realistic.

Moscow. GTA Russia would be so cool.

Although I would be very excited if it was Vice City in the 80's. GTA VC was my favourite and I'd love to see a 7th Generation take on it. Just the 80's feel. Neon lights, Billie Jean and a Camero.

If they could make Liberty City that great, imagine what Vice City is like. Or San Andreas for that matter. I think it would be WAY too much work, but 3 (GTA IV) sized Liberty Cities and all that countryside and desert. You could drive for hours.

Although other interesting locations would be Chicago, Texas or Washington DC. It would be fun spawning a power boat in the Washington Monument.

I'm not too keen on GTA London though even though I'm British.

I think taking GTA outside of america is a brilliant idea, they have adapted many cultures of america already, GTA in Tokyo would just be cool. Simple as.

Personally, I'd like to see a GTA that encompassed North America, or the world really. Each City has it's own underworld to destroy/control etc.. Eventually, I think GTA will move to this scale, and it'd be a welcome thing. Imagine a bigger role for jets/aircraft, or huge yachts etc...

It could be amazingly fun.

How about a GTA in a Northern setting such as Alaska, or Northern Canada or Russia. I personally think that would be pretty cool, and I'm not even a huge GTA fan. Imagine riding through snowstorms on snowmachines or the blood-stained snow that you leave behind you as you murder along. Would that not be cool (no pun intended)?

I could see other games taking advantage of europe or even west asia, but GTA works in Tokyo.

From an artistic standpoint, 'Vice City' is still the most visually appealing entry in the series, and I would really like to see Rockstar North recreate that location for our current generation before moving on to new territory.

And I know it's a fan favorite, but I personally wouldn't mind if they let 'San Andreas' be the sole title taking place there.

As for the Tokyo and London suggestions, I'm sure they would do great with those, but didn't Dan Houser say that the series in it's entirety is meant to be an ironic take on the United States?

Vice City 2 with an aging and increasingly paranoid Vercetti whose three sons can't stand each other, the three of them waiting for their father to bite the dust so they can divide his empire among themselves. Then the new protagonist joins the organisation as Tommy's driver after his previous driver gets killed in an assassination attempt that came from an unknown source.
