Insomniac's New Game To Be Fully Unveiled Soon?

Whether it's their new multiplatform project or another Resistance or Ratchet & Clank, we'll be happy to learn about it.

We're talking about Insomniac, after all. And the latest update from the studio is that we might see a full unveiling of their new project very, very soon. According to their recent Twitter update, the team says they've finalized a bunch of key elements, so might they unveil it this month at GamesCom...? The encouraging Tweet is as follows:

"Back in the office and just saw the final key art, trailer, and screens for our game reveal! Sooo exciting! Can't wait to show you!"

So maybe this is the new multiplatform game they've got in the works, or maybe it's Resistance 3. We'd like to think it's the latter as an announcement is long overdue, and Insomniac has said in the past they'd switch back and forth between their stellar FPS franchise and the equally stellar platformer series, Ratchet & Clank. Next to Killzone 3, we'd say Resistance 3 would be our most anticipated shooter...

Excellent, although it's almost certainly Resistance 3 and therefore not a huge surprise.

BTW did you guys see that Namco has announced a new Ace Combat for 360 *AND* PS3?

Actually I believe it was reported the other way round, but I wanted to emphasize that the PS3 was now one of the platforms for the game, unlike the last time.

While I can't wait for Resistance 3 info and images, I kind of hope this is the multiplat title because I'm super curious as to what it will be. I'd like to see some kind of 3rd person action adventure game.

I stopped with Resistance 2 after the intel trophy glitch. . . Didn't have the heart to go back. But damn, that game was something else! Sadly, I didn't play R&C:ACIT YET.

I read on another site that the voice actor for Clank (and Nate Hale) said that he was working on a new R&C game, and mentioned that he hadn't been called on for anything Resistance related which leaves me kind of disappointed. I'd much rather see another Resistance than R&C at this point in time.

Although, I'm expecting that title to be another one for the PSP and this new announcement to be the multiplat. Like World, I expect it to be something like Uncharted, thus following in the two studios history of creating very similar games, but who really knows.

Meh, it's Insomniac, we all know that it'll be good, regardless of what it ends up being. All I can say is bring it.

I'd be sad if Nathan didn't come back, unlike most people, I actually kind of liked the "Silent Badass" character he had going. Also, if this isn't Resistance 3, I'm going to be very disappointed, RFOM and R2 and even R:R are great games, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Its about damn time.

While i'm sad they are taking a break from R&C (my favorite game series ever), i'm sure whatever they are working on is going to be amazing. Have these guys ever been disappointing?

My prediction is Resistance 3 this november, multi-platform game in 2011. Then since Resistance will probably be done (im assuming its a trilogy) they may consider going back to Ratchet and Clank in 2012 or just focus on the multi-plat title and get out one a year like they did with R&C in the ps2 days.

I hope R&C never completely dies. I was a little wary about the franchise going to ps3, but it seems like each iteration is better than the last. Except Up Your Arsenal. That is the best R&C ever, and nothing has topped it since.

I just *really* hope Insomniac has partial rights to R&C. I know Sony owns it, but i dont want Sony to let another studio work on the series. Look at what happened to Spyro after Sony sold it or whatever they did. It was AWFUL.

In a newsletter i got from insomniac they said that they will now increase the dev time to 2 years instead of the 1. I'm not entirely sure how this will work because they have split into 2 different companies, one working on the multiplat and one the exclusive, so i guess they will still be releasing a game very year. kind of like call of duty? i'm not really sure but thats just my speculation.

Sony didn't continue Spyro because they don't own it. When Insomniac moved on to work on Ratchet and Clank, the rights to Spyro went to universal, and are currently owned by...Activision.

So, all the crap Spyro games post-Insomniac, not Sony's fault.

From what i understand, Insomniac is kind of already split into two groups, one works on R&C and one works on Resistance, but i guess with their new office in NC (or SC? Somewhere on the east coast) they might completely separate the two. That might now be a great idea. I think some of the greatness of Resistance came from being inspired by R&C and working closely with those designers.

Whatever happens, its guaranteed to be awesome.

My new default answer to questions about why a game is crap, or why the industry is moving in the wrong direction, or any other why question about gaming that involves laying blame at someone's feet...The new default answer...

I blame Activision. After all they screwed up both Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon once they (Universal Interactive owned by Activision) got their grubby paws on them.

So, as for the inferior Spyro games that came on the PS2 and other platforms...I blame Activision.

I believe that it is R3; and their multiplatform games will be later in the future. If it is Resistance 3, it will be certainly a day one purchase for me. Can't wait to see what they have.

my prediction is R3, releases in march 2011, & a beta in january 2011.
i don't think it's the multiplatform game because the press release says it's a ps3 project.

I'm sure this game will be Resistance 3. Remember that billboard spotted on the movie set? That movie is being made by Sony Pictures so I for one think it's legit.

I'm hoping the multiplat game will be a reboot of Disruptor. I've read that game had psychic powers mixed in with shooting and Psi-Ops is one of my favorite games from last gen.

I've played very few insomniac games. R&C isn't really my thing. I always like clank, but not too fond of ratchet. I don't play fps hardly ever so I've played very little resistance.

So I would be interested in something new from them, but multiplat worries me. I think even tho their games have never been my preferred genre, I still recognize their quality and I hope that whatever new game they make retains that, regardless of system.

old news, they announced this on there blog ages ago!
they said there going to announce it between now and PAX east so id guess gamescom.
it wont be their EA game though, EA said there not announcing that game till E3 2011 at the earliest!
plus insomniac did say ps3 project so im assuming its ps3 exclusive, otherwise why would they say ps3 project? why not say new project?

Just a thought, but could this be a remastered R&C HD collection of the first three R&C games done in 720p?

If it is, I will buy it instantly it launches.

Never got into R&C it was released around the time JAK II became a copy. I don't like my platfrom games to be sandbox games. So if this is the big secret i would be disapointed.

It would fit with some of the voice cast doing more R&C work - according to rumor and net talk at least. They may have had to revoice certain elements for an HD remastering.

Hey, I can hope can't I? I'm practically certain it'll be Resistance 3, but I'd definitely be happy with R&C remastered for PS3.

Indeed. I think that the folks at insomniac were actually asked about remastering and kinda sorta poo-pooed it leaving the thought that it would (if done) be outsourced like you say.
