DanceDanceRevolution PS3: The Most Complete DDR Ever

Hey, you know what PlayStation 3 owners have been missing so far this generation? Dancing.

Today, Konami has announced that DanceDanceRevolution, the interactive toe-tapping phenomenon that swept the world, will finally be hitting the PS3 this fall. With the familiar dance mechanics you all know and love, plus all-new features "that maximize the technological capabilities of the PS3 to its fullest," this new DDR should be quite the sensation. It'll come as little surprise that Konami will be implementing PlayStation Move compatibility along with fresh game modes, higher difficulty level, and better graphics and recording features.

But that's all child's play: for the first time ever, DDR will also require the use of your hands as well as your feet. By combining Move and the dance mat, you'll have your most realistic virtual dance party ever! Oh, and the inclusion of the PlayStation Eye means you'll actually be able to appear on screen; a feature that includes "filtering effects, zooming in and out, and capturing and controlling the particles on screen to decorate their dance and then record what the user has created."

You can upload your recorded video via social media networks, and that video can even end up on YouTube and Facebook through the Video Editor & Uploader of the PS3. Boasting 25 all-new original songs by Konami's stable of musicians, plus 20 licensed tracks from current performing artists, you can dance your heart out. Two new modes will be Dance Off and Club Mode; Dance Off is like a dance battle between players while Club Mode is geared towards the hardcore fan, where the songs keep coming, and you keep dancing. You can go for up to 20 in a row!

The new Challenge Level for the experienced player will be more demanding than ever; it'll add four diagonal arrows to the standard up, down, right and left options. Lastly, there's the user-friendly Workout Mode that will help you dance yourself into shape. It sounds like the most complete DDR to date. You ready?

Not sure how this will work, I can never get much more than my upper body in the screen with my PSEYE, maybe that part will just handle the hands.

And weirdly enough, so is everyone else O_o

Maybe I'm the odd one out here, but I've never been into fad games.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I live in NYC and unless you live on the ground floor or live in a duplex and game upstairs, you're going to have some disgruntled neighbors.

I've only played DDR at my girlfriend's brother's house when we were up late drinkin' and it was actually a lot of fun. Some people I imagine are too cool for it, but for those who can let themselves go, this should be a blast. My only concern is that between the game, Move and the Eyetoy, it might be a few too many peripherals for a game that may appeal more to casual gamers.

VERY VERY EXCITING - VERY VERY EXERCISE - it's understandable if Ben is this damn excited. Hell...this guy was for Dance Masters on the 360...

I've never had a DDR title, I guess it's about time. That plus, a good reason to get Move.

Ha! Awesome. This game was a huge hit in second year of university. My dorm was a 3 room apartment with 6 guys, and we regularly invited girls dorms over for din-din and a movie. This game was a HUGE hit for us with the ladies. Good memories!

That's not many songs. I guess they'll be milking the DLC on this one.

Oh, wait, wasn't recording yourself doing dumb stuff and then posting it to Live for your friends to see a key feature and differential of Kinect compared to Move? Whoops. then again since the PS3 has had YouTube integration around for a little while and games like Sing Star have always allowed you to record yourself and share the results I guess it's really not such a differential after all.

@Highlander,
<sarcasm>

But... but... You know M$ft created it first!

Sony is just copying M$ft!

Aaron Greenberg said Kinect was the first console with this feature; therefore, Sony copied M$ft!

PS3 sucks!

Skulks back under the 360 troll bridge.

Konami is taking the Kinect aproach now? Glad to see they are attributing the camera into their game.

Not sure where you've been for the last 4 years Bugs, but the PSEye has always been able to do this and there are several PSEye titles on PSN that use full body tracking.

I have been under a rock; what about you? lol Just kidding. I know that the PS Eye can do what kinect does; however, a lot of ps3 developers don't utilize that feature.

Ummm... The last DDR on the PS2 used the EyeToy. Nothing new here, except for PS Move integration.

The Wii version of DDR actually integrated hand movement, too. Rare fact-check fail there, Ben. ;)
