LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta Coming To A PS3 Near You

After selling 3 million copies and garnering worldwide critical acclaim, Media Molecule just had to make a sequel.

They produced a ton of extra content for the first title and although the developers once said a second game would be "counterproductive" in that LBP is a constantly expanding universe, it was likely Sony said something like, "just make a damn sequel. Everyone wants one." And now, LittleBigPlanet 2 is set to launch on November 16, with a beta test coming "soon." That's right, a beta. You already know about the launch date but Media Molecule member Spaff just announced the beta over at the LittleBigWorkshop forums. They'll have more news concerning the date the beta opens along with recruiting testers, and let's not forget that it could very well be linked to Sony's new premium PSN subscription service, PlayStation Plus. If the LBP2 beta is indeed connected to Plus, that's only more incentive to become a member (as if the free stuff available isn't incentive enough already).

Anyway, it's great that a beta will be coming and it's likely that millions will want a slot. So stay on your toes when the info comes in!

I read that LBP2 is using the same engine as GOWIII, is this true?

Are you kidding? No. Media Molecule has an in house engine they build themselves specially for a game like LBP.

Hope to get in the beta. i played it at San Diego Comic-Con and it was awesome, i just wish i had more time there. That's one time i didn't want to share. Off topic, Ben, is it true!? my friend just said that K-Mart is offering the 250gig PS3 for 299. If so, I'm getting ready to add a second PS3 to my kingdom.

Yes, they've had that deal up for a week now. Just go to www(dot)kmart(dot)com if you need proof. No need to ask Ben about Kmart. lol

Definitely. Plus has given us some good games and great deals, but really I feel like it's the discount shelf in the back of the store sometimes. Not that all the things they give us are trashy but some of them seem like they're just trying to get rid of em. Anyways, as for the LBP2 beta I definitely want in and if plus finally gets some beta access as they said they would give us I will also be quite happy.

I'll be sure to try to get an invitation, though if it's PS+, I probably won't. I'd like to try it out, but there's just simply no way I can afford it at this point in time.

No offense, but you can't afford $4/month?

Was that reply directed at me, Ben? If so, yeah, I can't afford $4/month right now because I only have $18 to freely spend. And that's it. I'm currently looking for a new job and a new place to live, so by the time the beta comes out hopefully things will be different and I can subscribe, but right now, it's not even an option for me.

Okay, just wondering. Some people like to complain about $50 when they can easily afford it, you know?

Yeah, I'm sure people make excuses, and I understand why you'd be skeptical. I see how good of a deal it is. For less than the price of a full game, you get a bunch of free small games, exclusive content, and discounts on larger games for a year. As soon as I get things sorted out, I plan on subscribing. I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

I would love to get into this beta and if it becomes a ps + thing, then that's probly when I'll join ps+.

I would like to point out Ben tho that even tho it comes out to $4 a month, you have to pay it all up front and I know there are a lot of months, that I don't have $50 to spend on anything besides bills and groceries.

I can totally understand not being able to find the money sometimes. Some of us are poor.

Don't get it, what are Sony making that should be free cost money? For the most part, there's no difference, we (only putting that since I have plus) don't get some special software update that lets us XGC or anything different than a non-plus user. The only change is you get a free psn game every month about, free psn mini's, free ps1 classics and some free themes and dlc, and other things are just dicounted, to be honest it's not a lot but if it's related to the games you like, or if you just really like playing games a lot, it really does help. I bought the year +3 bonus months, and it's already payed for itself in just the first 2 months I've had it in content.

The only thing I could guess that Plus users would get to see more of than others is beta access, but how is that not fair? On the PS2 and such, no one ever even took place in beta's or anything like that, it's not a demo, it's not something that everyone should just magically get to be in for free, it's there for Sony/Developers to look for glitches, balance issues, and server problems. For most popular games there will still be a demo for it to showcase the game and that will more than likely always be free to everyone, (whether it comes sooner or later than plus or not)

LegendaryWolfeh,

I couldn't have said it better myself, this is the definitive way of explaining how PS+ works, in my opinion =)

I was in the first LBP beta, it would be cool to get into this one. I wish I was a youth again so I would have the time to actually make levels and games with LBP2 but I just don't these days. Guaranteed great game though.

Sadly don't have PS+ so I know I won't be getting in...

But would love to create a fun level in the beta for LBP2 just like I did in the beta for LBP(1)

Holy crap you guys get taxed like crazy down there. The G27 has been as low as $150 over here. It's currently around $212. LBP2 can be pre-ordered for $50 right now but I ordered the Collector's Edition. Can't wait for November.

150!
WTF!
ok, thats it im getting one when i go to Hawaii in December!
500 is the cheapest ive seen it, slightly cheaper on ebay but than since its big and heavy shipping bumps it back up.
i really want to get one though, you cant play a racing sim without a wheel!
